Fair and peaceful campaigning?

and on the topic of foreigners on the voting list............. i was one of them........ :D
I have been removed :)
I remember posting about getting my ticket during last years local elections. I'm sure we had let them know I shouldn't be on there

So it's your fault @nosox .

But seriously; the cortina committee stated there are 192.828.520 people who would be allowed to vote. In 2014 approx. 70% did vote, so one can do the math....

The threshold is 4% and it seems quite some parties will not make it to the DPR.

The funny (or sad) thing is btw, that a poll showed that over 60% of the members of the Partai Demokrat (SBY and Andi's party, in the Prabowo coalition) would vote for Jokowi?!

Talking about Andi, he is sent home. What? Yes really, till they decide over his fate. And of course he is a victim of the lax policy of the current administration.

You evil foreign puppet master co-conspirator!!

Nosokski or, even worse: 没有袜子

My wife is asked as controller/observer during the election. They need 7 people per RT, which seems a lot to me.

I don't think I will show up to have a look.

well I've not seen any recent deposits in my bank account yet

Just the results of some polls.

It seems Gerindra is already feeling what's coming; you can see that in the selection of the vice governor for Jakarta; they are stalling. I don't think they will make a decision before the elections and depending on the results, won't give away the position at all...

It's time for a final offensive.

It's kind of amazing how useful those FPI / PA 212 / etc. guys can be. Even Anies can count on them to demonstrate in front of the DPRP to put some push behind his demand and governor election promise to sell the devilish PT Delta (Anker beer) shares.

And yippee, our favorite magazine is back. Nothing tabloid, an elucidative brochure!

Just like in 2014, what resulted in prison time for the editors (calling Jokowi a communist with a Chinese heritage), a special reborn version of Obor Rakyat is about to appear. This time containing an exclusive interview with Rizieq from Mecca.

Can hardly wait.

What I find depressing (well one of the many things) is how far right the Indonesian electorate has become. One stunning episode involves the PSI (Partai Solidaritas Indonesia) who styles itself as the most progressive party. They're supposed to target the youth vote, and have a large number of very young legislative candidates.

So a few weeks ago PSI posters start showing up with the slogan "Respect LGBT Rights" on them. Great, an actual progressive cause. Except PSI immediately denied they put up those posters, said that they were a smear campaign and are reporting the case to the police. *facepalm*

No matter who wins the election this year, I feel Indonesia is going to be stagnant for the next 5 years. I don't know which way it goes after that, but I'm not hopeful.

I fully agree with you, but would rather call this rigidly traditional or even bigoted.

NB: Unlike the US, in Europe there are right(wing) political parties which are, besides their views on society, very liberal in their way of thinking and honoring personal freedom. Often they're even called Liberals while they're on the right side of the political spectrum, speaking about economic models, safety issues etc.. (My American colleagues thought I was crazy when I talked about right wing liberals.)

Ya, the PSI. And that for a party which does not accept members of 45+. Of course the 4% threshold will probably prohibit their election, so it could prove to be a non-issue, but this is one of the few parties that could have sent out a clear message. It's a shame.

If you see the current storm in the press and social media country, you would think that Andi Arief, still has a stash of crystal meth at home when you see his latest tweets:

A truck with Chinese (huh?) characters and a KPU sticker!!! Between the lines: You see this administration is allowing/using foreigners to influence these elections!

So the whole tactics the last couple of days seem to be to portrait the elections as falsified and a put-up job.

I was very disappointed when Jokowi opts Mahruf. but the name of this game is presidential election, the objective is clear - a presidential chair; not to satisfy me or some expat in this forum.
Each eligible voters regardless their position, status and education entitle for one vote only. The value of my vote is exactly same as the vote from Phd, peasant, priest, sinner, member of FPI or even ex-terrorist, I dont think myself or similar people as myself is the majority.
Probably he could choose much better candidate - say Ahok (if he was not stupid enough to waste my money) or Mahfud; but no point having great and ideal candidates just to become the looser.

Just to clarify:

Investigative journalists have looked into what happened. The lady in the picture is Ibah Muthiah, chairwoman of the Electoral Commission (KPU) of Yogyakarta who points her finger at the (intact) KPU seal.

The ballot papers were printed under supervision of the KPU at PT Temprina in Solo and loaded into a truck from the shipping company Chili Raya to take them to the KPU depot. The entire process of printing and transport is supervised by the KPU with police assistance.

Now Chili Raya has bought this truck in Singapore, hence the characters on the side which mean nothing more than "be careful".

What a fuss....

Luckily we have Titiek Soeharto (daughter of ... and ex of Prabowo, who she charms again at every er.... eh election), warning the general public to be cautious if they see people who plan to vote who speak funny Indonesian (I guess she means whose Indonesian language skills are not up to par).

They could be foreigners who own KTP's and who....

This is really getting more and more absurd by the day.

We entered a new important period: For the next three weeks there is a possibility for unlimited campaigning and the candidates can organize meetings à volonté.

On 14 April, all needs to stop and even all material will have to be removed. ?

D-day on 17 April.?

17.5 million. Remember that number.

That is the number of ballots which are illegal/fake according to the Prabowo camp.

? Now where would that come from?

Ah yes, it's approx. 10% of the amount of the voters, the amount that they fall short in most polls!

You can see what's coming after they announce the final scores. The way is being paved to challenge the validity of the whole election. Demos at Monas, ....here we go again.

And another loony tune, from (who else?) Amin Rais  :

The elections recap etc. should not take place in hotel Borobudur. That place is haunted. There are Jins and Genderuwo (Javanese) present.

Jimat-Pemberian-Genderuwo-Jual-Benda-Bertuah-300x300.jpg

Obviously the hotel management is not happy, made a statement and is considering legal steps.

With elections just around the corner, things have taken a bit of a bizarre turn.

First up, a WA chat message purported to be from Habib Riziek in which he doubts the Islamic faith of Prabowo, even describing some of Prabowo's followers as Islamophobes. It also describes former President SBY as engaging in anti-Islam politics. Both men have obviously taken exception to this, and Habib Riziek has denied the chat.

The chat message came from Yusril Ihza Mahendra, who is the chairman of Partai Bulan Bintang (Crescent Star Party), a small Islamic party, and a former cabinet minster in 3 different presidential administrations. He says the message is real, and claims that since it is in digital form, his service provider can back it up.

Next up, a video has been released showing Jokowi's running mate, Ma'ruf Amin saying he would like to "finish" (habisi) Ahok. Now the usage of dihabisi can be sinister in Indonesian, although it is unclear if that is what Amin meant. No indication as to when the video was taken, but it appears that it was during the mass protests against Ahok, in which Amin played a central role as MUI chairman. Naturally, Ahokers (people who support Ahok, and are still a significant blok of voters) could be turned off (even more) by this.

I saw a first the other day, an ambulance was all paint in the colors of someone ruling for office. I have seen bejas with stickers or flyers attached to the back window(most all for #2), but the emergency service showing support for someone?

The ambulance stuff is just tacky. I've seen it many times here. I think the ambulances in question were probably donated by said person/party.
