About Expat Indo Forum

Welcome to the Expat Indo Forum. Thank you for your interest. To make your experience as pleasant as possible, please take a moment to read the following Posting Guidelines ('PGs').

Mission Statement
The Expat Indo Forum and site is dedicated to the sharing of information and a community for everyone, with a focus on visiting or living as an expatriate in Indonesia.

Expat Indo Forum
Expat Indo Forum ('the forum') including all contents therein is private property owned by Expat Indo Forum. Even though the forum are open to the public and visitors can create accounts for free, they will be required to submit to certain rules and etiquette outlined in these PGs.

The Moderation Team
Administrators and Moderators are users who are facilitating the day-to-day use of the forum. Collectively they are referred to as the Moderation Team. You may contact them with any issues you have with the forum. In order to do their job, these users have additional abilities beyond that or a regular user, including the ability to move, edit, lock, delete content posted by other users. Administrators and Moderators also have the ability to issue penalties for users violating our PGs where they deem necessary. A current list of Administrators and Moderators is available by clicking the "Moderation Team" button at the top of the forum.

Understanding our Posting Guidelines
These are the terms and conditions that apply to your use of any current and future services offered by Expat Indo Forum. Access to this document is available without registration, when you register, and at any other time by clicking the Posting Guidelines button located on all forums.

Ignorance of our PGs is not an excuse. You agree to these PGs at the time of registration, and using the forum is explicit agreement of the forum's PGs wholly and without omission. Any breach of these PGs will have been done with your explicit understanding of our rules and you are solely responsible for any consequences of such breach.

If you require further clarification you can either contact either a Moderator or Administrator or use the Contact Us links available on the forum.

Changes in our Posting Guidelines
We reserve the right to change these PGs at any time. It is the responsibility of members to keep up-to-date with the terms of service.

General Rules

English as the primary language of the forum
We attract users from many different backgrounds and nationality, therefore for ease of communication the official language of the forum is English and should be the primary language used. Other languages maybe used where reasonable, however we reserve the right to remove any content from the forum that isn't written in English at our discretion.

Inclusivity
We are an inclusive community and expect our users to not discriminate against anyone based on their race, color, religious creed, sex, nationality, ancestry, citizenship, immigration status, disability, age, marital status or civil union status, gender and gender expression, medical condition or sexual orientation.

Be nice to newbies
New forum users are to be encouraged to participate in our forum. Please give them extra latitude and the benefit of doubt. Refrain from responding to a genuine newbie user with sarcasm, terse one liners or other unwelcoming attitude.

Prohibited Content
You agree that you will not post any content which is defamatory, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, threatening, or illegal.

Gratuitous pictures of nudity and/or violence are prohibited.

Spam, chain letters, pyramid schemes, and other unwanted solicitations are also prohibited.

The posting of any copyrighted material, without the consent from the owner of the copyrighted material, is prohibited. This includes linking to sites that contain copyrighted material used without permission of the copyright holder.

This is not an exhaustive list of prohibited content, and the Moderation Team may remove other content deemed unfit for the forum at their discretion.

Personal Information of Other Users
You agree to not divulge any personal information of other users without their explicit consent. This includes referring to users by their real names in posts, or linking to their social media profiles.

User Generated Content
A large number of content on the forum is user generated. User generated content expresses the views of the author, not the views of the moderation team or owner of these forums. Due to the nature of user generated content, we neither monitor nor verify the accuracy of such content. You view and use such content at your own risk.

Account creation, access and termination

Registering an account
Most functions of the forum are limited to registered members. In order to access them you will need to create an account. You may do this by clicking on the "Register" button at the top right of the forum.

A valid e-mail account will be required for registration. Your privacy is important: we do not share your e-mail address with a 3rd party for any reason.

One account per person
Unless explicitly allowed by the owner of the forum, members are may only have one account on the site. Members caught using more than one account (sockpuppeting) may face penalties up to the termination of all current and future accounts. If you are experiencing problems with your account please use the Contact Us link and we'll work to resolve the issue.

No account sharing
You agree to never login to another account that does not belong to you, and you agree to never let anyone else log in with your account. Members caught violating this rule may face penalties up to the termination of all current and future accounts.

Accounts from the same household
If more than one person from the same household wishes to create an account then please report such intentions via the Contact Us button, or by directly contacting one of our Moderators or Administrators. If a member of your household receives a ban and we have reason to believe that that user has created or is using another account, your entire household may be blocked from accessing the forum to prevent that user from gaining access to the site.

Age restrictions
Expat Indo Forum sites are open to people aged 13 or older.

Username, profiles, avatars and signatures
You have the ability to choose a username and customize your profile, avatar and signature. It is important that they comply with rules set out in the PGs.
Abusive, vulgar, hateful, or any otherwise inappropriate usernames, profiles, avatars and signatures will not be tolerated.

Mimicking another user, moderator or administrator via the use of similar username, profile, avatar or signature line is not allowed.

User names that appear to be email addresses or URLs are not permitted.

Any form of advertising, promotion, linking or commercial use of your username, profile, avatar or signature is not allowed.

Account security and responsibility
Keeping your login credentials safe is solely and entirely your responsibility. Never share your password with anyone!

Personal information
Interaction with the forum and your user profile page allows you to disclose details about yourself. Listing private information such as your real name, address, phone number, email address, etc. is not recommended and may pose a risk to you. Exercise extreme caution when sharing any private information over the internet. You do so at your own risk.

Account closure
We do not close accounts upon request. If you do not intend to use the forum any longer, simply stop logging in.

Forum Posting Rules and Etiquette

Do not post simple one liners such as "Agreed!" or "Yeah!" or otherwise low content posts for the purpose of creating more posts and increasing your post count.

Do not post the same topic in multiple locations. To avoid unnecessary forum clutter, please determine the most appropriate location for your post, and post only there.

Do not bump topics. Bumping is posting simple posts such as "bump!" for the purpose of moving the thread back up to the top of the forum. If you feel that a post you created has not received attention, you may post additional details after a day has passed without any comments from other users.

No trolling, flaming or baiting. Any disruptive posting aimed at solely inciting a negative response is not allowed.

No personal attacks. We welcome vigorous debate, arguments and discussion, but please remember to attack the argument, not the poster.

Do not revive old threads for no good reason. If the thread has been dormant (no new posts) for 3 months or more please make sure you have a good reason to post in it and bringing it back to the top.

Do not hijack threads. Please try to stick to the topic of the thread, and do not post unrelated things to steer people away from the topic of the thread. If you have an unrelated topic you would like to discuss, you may start your own thread.

Do not link to an outside article without comment. This is a discussion forum. If you wish to discuss an article from outside of our forum, you may do so by linking. Please also include your own comments as to why you are linking said article to start off the discussion. Under no circumstances should you copy most or all of outside articles and post in on the forum. If you need to quote part of an article, you must cite the source.

Do not attempt to moderate other users. Attempting to moderate other users while not a moderator or impersonating a moderator by telling someone they have done something wrong or against the rules, and other similar behavior (Junior Modding, Back Seat Modding) is prohibited. If you feel another users has violated the terms of our sites, or you would like to alert the Moderators to a posts or private message you feel is in violation of our PGs, please use the "Report" button available beneath every post or private message.

Do not belittle other users for their command of English. The forum's members hail from many different nationalities and may speak English as a second or third (or even higher!) language. Belittling other users for their command of English, grammar or spelling is unacceptable.

Use of excessive profanity. We allow some leeway in the way our users express themselves in text within the forum. You may use some words that are considered normally considered profane, however excessive profanity is discouraged, nor is this a pass to attack other users. Context is everything. We reserve the right to determine what is excessive.

Edit time window. You can edit your post for a period of 24 hours after posting. After that posts may only be edited by a moderator.

Private Messaging Rules and Etiquette

The Private Messaging (PM) system may be used by forum users to communicate privately with each other. All rules in the PGs are also applicable to the PM System.

We make no warranty over the security of the PM system. We are not responsible for any errors, damages or losses incurred due to the use of the PM system. Caution should be excersised when transmitting sensitive information over PM, just as you would in any other part of the internet.

Absolutely no unsolicited spam or advertising is allowed via PM.

Any abusive use of the PM system may be reported by using the "Report Post" button available at the bottom of the message.

Reputation System Rules and Etiquette

Every user will have their reputation displayed below their username. It represents the total reputation earned by the user and/or given by other users of the forum.

You may give users positive or negative reputation for their posts using the "Reputation" button (Star icon) at the bottom of every post, you may also include a short message to give feedback to the person receiving the reputation.

All rules in the PGs are also applicable to the Reputation System.

You may not induce or game the system or conspire with other user(s) in anyway to inflate, deflate or otherwise distort your or another user's reputation.

Moderation Actions

The Moderation Team may at their discretion issue the following moderation actions to users in breach of the PGs: Warning, Deletion of Post, Infraction, Temporary Banning and Permanent Banning. The severity of the moderation action depends among other things on the severity of the breach and whether the user has been penalized for an identical breach previously, and are solely at the discretion of the Moderation Team. The Moderation Team is under no obligation to consider a lesser action prior to issuing a permanent ban.

The Moderation Team as a general rule does not reveal any moderation action taken with users of the forum, other than with the subject user. Exception to this rule will be made on a case-by-case basis.

Infraction and Infraction Points
An infraction carries with it a certain number of Infraction Points, which will be notified to the receiving user.
The actual number of infraction points issued is at the discretion of the Moderation Team.
The number of infraction points accumulate for multiple infractions, and expire 1 year after they are issued.
Accumulating 15 infraction points results in a 7 day temporary ban or longer. Accumulating 21 infraction points results in a permanent ban.

Bans from the Forum
Users severely or repeatedly in violation of the PGs may have their access to the forum removed. This is known as a ban. Bans may be temporary or permanent.
A user attempting to get around a ban by creating another account will be immediately banned, and all future accounts will also be banned.

Appealing a Penalty
You may appeal a penalty by using the Contact Us button to reach the forum owner. Please include a concise note detailing while you feel a review of the penalty is warranted.

Classifieds Forum Guidelines

These Guidelines apply in addition to the site wide Posting Guidelines while posting in any forum under the Classifieds category.

The Classifieds Forum exist primarily for the non-commercial use by our members. Non-commercial means not primarily intended for commercial advantage or monetary compensation.

Commercial use of the classifieds are allowed once per 30 day period, per user. This applies even if the business offers completely different services. This restriction does not apply to non-commercial users.

Do not make additional user accounts to get around this rule, as it will result in immediate banning of all accounts.

Bumping of threads so that they appear at the top of the forum is limited to once per 30 day period. This includes bumps that are written under the pretext of adding more information. The only exemption to this is that you may answer questions by legitimate users.

The use of deceptive advertising such as shilling (pretending to be a customer to provide false referral, while actually connected to the business), will result in both the advertiser account and that of the shill being banned. As well, we will expose any deceptive advertising we discover in the forum, so that whole world may have information of the deceptive practices by the business.

Please post your ad in the appropriate sub-forum, and only in the appropriate sub-forum.

Absolutely no off topic posting allowed. This includes speculation as to the motives of advertisers. If you have actual experiences (positive or negative) or genuine questions you may post those. If you have any concerns regarding an advertising, please use the report button to alert the moderators so they may investigate.

Expat Indo Forum and its representatives do not make any representation, warranty or endorsement, express or implied, as to any of the information, services, products or process posted or advertised in these forums.

Your use of the Classifieds Forum is solely at your own risk. Expat Indo Forum and its representatives are not liable for any loss, damages, claims arising out of the use of this forum.
