Fair and peaceful campaigning?

Yeah, I'm also wondering which era they refer to when they say 'again'?

The colonial pre 1945? Ah no, it was the Dutch East Indies back then.
The Soekarno period? Hmm, if they want to restore the political three pillar model with the communist party, and many girlfriends for the president of course.
The Suharto dictatorship? That’s a period where the country was sucked dry by nepotism from a certain clan and in which racism and violence against a certain ethnic group was stimulated by the state.

There are not a lot of options left besides those periods...

Majapahit?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Majapahit

Perhaps they mean pre-independence. 1850 when 150,000 Chinese were killed in Java or 1900 when 227,000 Chinese were killed and another 250,000 in the outer Islands.

Majapahit?

Ah yes, Javanese region fighting the Chinese empire.

Talking about Chinese; a man committed suicide in the Mediterania apartment block. It’s under investigation why there were (powerful) guns in the apartment. But certain groups have already raised the point that terrorist actions could also come from Chinese organizations trying to overthrow the government? It really would be amazing if they bring up the ‘communist threat’ again. Of course, the Meikarta Lippo corruption case does not help in avoiding ethnic hatred.

Ahmad Dhani is also back in the news btw. He filed a complaint since he feels prosecuted. (He is involved in 11 cases.) According to Ahmad the opposition is treated like terrorists. (He can currently not leave the country.) When they tried to ask him what he meant with ‘the system should change’ in a TV talk-show he got out yelling. So we will probably never know.

I give him a point for style at least!

These were pretty good narration on Indonesia's ancient times I thought:

There are also these 3 episode of the Extra Credits YouTube channel on Majapahit:

Now also by the Jokowi camp there are some dirty games being played in the social media.

Mainly about Prabowo's (gay) son Didik who is a fashion designer in Paris. They do everything they can to keep him out of the news realizing it could hurt the (piousness of the) campaign but obviously it pops up from time to time.

Another thing is a threesome porn movie made by Prabowo's nephew who is a DPR member. His father Hashim, Prabowo's brother, is a Christian who supports Gerindra.

All very grateful subjects of course.

And Prabowo has started a charm offensive, by showing his cat Bobby who stays at his Jl. Ketanegara address...

I actually like the use of cats for political campaigning purposes. Certainly beats fake blasphemy accusations to send an innocent man to prison.

It would be great if the whole campaigning fight shifted to a cat cred contest.

Prabowo's cat looks similar to ours which is also colored like a Holstein. Understandibly, our cat's name is "Cow."

OK, now back to the election.

And smart to position a good looking Sandiaga to lure the emak-emak. Funny the twist they try to give to make sure he should be considered pious. (I think there are not many people as unaware of Islamic teachings as the top of nr 2, we know Prabowo's background but it's also interesting to look at Sandiaga's scholing.)

The word of the day is 'duck-breeder'. Fadli Zon (who else?) stated he is upset by a cursing president.

The political debate has also reached the movie theaters.

Currently, there are two ‘local’ movies playing, besides the obligatory horror and ghost productions.

One is from Hanum Rais (the daughter of politician Amien Rais, the one who would walk from Yogyakarta to Jakarta if Jokowi would ever become president).

The other one is about Ahok.

Now the whole thing became nasty when an idiot* was tweeting that the Hanum & Rangga film got many more visitors than the Ahok movie. People realized he mixed up red and green seats in the cinema, he was ridiculized and then it went viral.

Not so smart (just as her father I guess), Hanum reacted and stated that the other movie got more views since they were ‘bought’ by Ahok and Jokowi supporters. And that while everybody knew the Hanum movie had become a mandatory outing for the PAN (her father’s political party) members.

The latest brawl has started by the ‘leader’ of another religious splinter group, (Habib) Bahar bin Smith.

You might remember he was one of the instigators of the attacks on bars serving alcohol in south Jakarta during Ramadan. With home made but definitely lethal weapons. Also, recently he was refused entrance to his home town of Manado since they knew he would create trouble. But it was all one big misunderstanding [sic].

Anyway, in a hate speech against Jokowi he compared the president with a transgender. Referring to blood in underwear etc. Extremely rude. Of course complaints followed and Sandiaga (running mate of Prabowo) has been defending this ‘important religious leader’.

Now I have no problems whatsoever with androgynous people (big fan of Bowie and David Sylvian and active New Romantic at the time) but look at the pictures and make up your mind if this person can seriously accuse anybody of being a banci.

The big question is what will happen during the planned demonstration on 2 December. How many people will show up, will it get violent, etc. etc.

It seems the Democrats are not participating in today’s 212 demonstration. That might be a smart move of SBY (the former president whose party is in and out of the camp of Prabowo, depends on the day). Afterwards if things don’t work out he can always do a pontius pilates....

Because of different allegencies the news on the TV stations is very diverse (TVOne vs Metro for instance).

Smith has a Maserati convertible. Obviously there are some wondering where that money came from.

But also:

The number plate does not correspond with the car. And many imply there is political protection (just like with Rizieq and Ahmad Dhani). They have a point of course, even in Manado he seemed ‘untouchable’.

Sorry but "bin Smith" I have to laugh a little bit at that one

He does look a little bule-ish ?
