People will need to see Indonesia from a different angle compared to other countries in Asia.
Quality over quantity ? It is easier said than done. That is what lobby from Luxurious Hotels, chain hotels, has been saying since a few decades ago. Also just look at what they did during COVID-19 lock down.
Shall the authority listen to them you will not be seeing a lot of backpackers, students, will be visiting Indonesia.
You will only see rich pensioners, taking expensive holiday packages.
You will not be seeing accommodations like Jalan Jaksa in Jakarta, Poppies lanes in Kuta, etc. You will not be seeing a lot of mix marriage in Indonesia.
Keep in Mind many of mix marriage happen while the young generation of backpackers are visiting Indonesia, not the other way as there are not a lot of Indonesian do International travel especially in developed nations where the price are siginficatly high than Indonesia.
The key to sustainability require any business to compete, no protection of big chain hotels. Let all types of tourism package be made available and compete each other. Those who can not compete, not efficient, relying on government protection will die automatically. Let them die as if they are bankrupt they will be replaced by a more competitive, efficient business.

I do not know about Hollands Venetië but Venice in Italy is the sinking city, it has been like that since ages, but keep deteriorating. it has its own environmental Problem with or without tourisms. What about other tourist cities in Italy such as Rome, Florence ??
Tourism, fashion designers bring a lot of money to Italy.

The Bogus asylum seekers, borderless, not tourism caused by the EU policy openly inviting rewarding those who are doing something illegal during Angela Merkel Regime ruined them.

Most cities in the Europe are ruined by illegal Immigrants, open border policy, even for those who can not support themselves. Just look at how many Romanian, Bulgarian (to some extents) gipsies could travel to the other countries in Europe by buses even without a mean to support themselves. Arriving in other Countries in Europe they are just camping in the park, making the park, public transport stations as their home, toilet, shitting, pissing everywhere, etc. The children are trained to become pickpocketers.

Tourism has peaked in Amsterdam. The brown pub has disappeared and crêpes with Nutella are available on every corner. Low-value shops remain and that does not serve any resident of the city.

Yeah, during Covid travel restrictions the city center was complety deserted. Without tourists Amsterdam has become a dead city. Obviously we saw this dip happening in Bali as well. Now they’re complaining about nuisance in Canggu but in Kuta it was rather calm. Where normally the crème de la crème of the Australian society spends its holidays. Low season will also be a reason.

Last time I was in Amsterdam the people serving in the bars etc. did not even speak Dutch and many hotels etc. have foreign owners so it makes you wonder how well the tourist industry helps the local economy. And nobody with a ‘normal’ salary can afford to live there with the absurd housing prices.

But that’s the case in many tourist destinations. In Bali you see the rich from Jakarta (e.g. Hotman Paris and Rafi Ahmed) invest so the profits won’t stay there. But obviously that’s something you don’t hear a lot of complaining about.

Diversification. In Holland and Belgium they realize the Chinese restaurants don’t have a lot of future (trendy are Japanese, Vietnamese and Thai). So they buy out and take over the fast-food-fries warungs (frietkot, cafetaria, frituur, …) from the locals.

Amsterdam started the so-called Stay Away campaign, it is part of a broad package of measures which the city council adopted. It goes against party tourism in Amsterdam and it is mainly aimed at British males between 18 and 35 years old who cause a lot of nuisance in the city center.

They also aim at potential visitors who plan to come to Amsterdam to let loose, and who search online. For example, if they search for ‘stag party Amsterdam’ or ‘cheap hotel Amsterdam‘ and ‘pub crawl Amsterdam’, they will see warning ads. These advertisements show the risks and consequences of partying to hard and excessive alcohol and drug use. So they warn for fines, being arrested, getting a criminal record, hospitalization and possible health issues. I did not see any warning ads (yet?) and the question is if anyone cares of course.

The campaign will be assessed and possibly further developed in the coming months.

The Indonesian authorities suspected a Dutchman of having indoctrinated villagers and urging them to raise the RMS (Republik Maluku Selatan - Republic of South Moluccas) flag. For this, the man was deported from Indonesia yesterday evening.

The Ambon Immigration Service received a report from the local intelligence service about an imminent arrest in Ambon city of a foreigner suspected of being an RMS supporter. Aboru has long been known as an RMS stronghold.

Ambon's immigration service reports that the man was put on a plane from Ambon to Jakarta on 1 May. There he had to await his deportation, they couldn’t get a ticket to Amsterdam. According to Immigration, the guy did fly to Amsterdam on Thursday evening 4 May with Garuda.

The man entered Indonesia on a Visa on Arrival.

First he complains that Bali is suffering as the tourism industry was smacked hard in the face due to covid. Now is he is complaining about the type of tourist that are coming. He must be trying to please his friends and supporters that own/run the 4 and 5 star hotels, high end food places because he isn't thinking of the average worker who sells nasi bungkus, rents the motorcycles, etc...

Does he not realize not many people know what they are going to do a year in advance, let alone where they will go for holiday?

I am beginning to think he started eating tide pods or eating paint chips.
