Bali deports expats

Now is he is complaining about the type of tourist that are coming.
The governor should start a Kitas-tourist .. with certain terms & conditions, e.g salary above 3000 euro/us dollar net.

A big call to ask people to book a year ahead in times when things are forever changing. Who knows how prices for airlines will go across a 12 month period and what would be required to confirm visa availability on arrival? Another pay up front fee? And no refund if needed to cancel? If there were no fee then easy to advise of an intending visit and then just forget about it which would make it very difficult to manage quotas. But as remarked by Chris Tex, "He must be trying to please his friends and supporters that own/run the 4 and 5 star hotels, high end food places because he isn't thinking of the average worker who sells nasi bungkus, rents the motorcycles, etc..."

The cheap backpackers of today are tomorrows mature and perhaps affluent citizens keen to return to a country where they had such a great time when they were young. Despite the ugly incidents caused by the relatively few ignorant and uncouth visitors there seems to be no consideration as to the benefits of the wash of new ideas and thoughts that come with tourists from the lower end of the financial market. The world is ever changing and while resistance to change is understandable it does not help with planning long term tourism strategies.

Yeh most of that $6m would not have trickled down, 50% is over price markup etc like $100,000 for flowers which the florists will reuse the next day etc etc
And hotel rooms at full rack and coke at $5 a can etc

All to the owners of the hotels

I give it 2-3 years max anyway

The system is already there, no need for a new system.
Now of course this is something he wants, the Ho wedding…

They spent like 93 billion rupiah (approx. $6,3M, €5,8M, £5M) on the event in total.

.
Good to have such wealthy tourists. This is actually what some people, business in hospitality, tourism industries dream on
But how many of them ?? Certainly it is easier said than done.

What about Three stars or below accommodations, hostels. What about the low end accommodation around poppies lane in Kuta ??
What about Made warung, and other street food vendors (Low end restaurant)
What about seafood vendors around Jimbaran Bay ??
What about street vendors, shop selling low end souvenirs.
What about beach boys with their surfing boards or vendors .. around Kuta, Beach
What about Ketut, Nyoman and certainly Slamet (from Java but still an Indonesian) offering Grab / Gojek services ??

Count that how many people working in small and medium enterprise industries. Who is going to substitute their earning their living cost, to feed their families ??

In any industry around the world you name it they cater all types customers, low, mid. high end customers, not just exclusively for high end customers.

You have people are selling Rolex, Patek Philippe, Breitling, Tag Heuer but how many street vendors are selling imitation watch in Bali and the Tourist are buying it, knowing that it is imitation.

You have Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Balenciaga, but how many street vendors are selling imitation bags in Bali and the Tourist are buying it.

You have tourist are renting HD, Mercedes, Jaguar, Bentley, limousine taxi services but compare that with Chinese Japanese/Chinese auto-mobile, EVs, motorbikes modified to look like HD. How many Grab, Gojek drivers outthere??

In the past around 1970-1980+ people who dreamed on this concept, mainly come from the main lobby owner of exclusive hotels, hotel packages, aiming for monopoly but the idea was scrapped and back to square one after witnessing the impact of it. They called these type of tourist as "Sandals Tourists". They forgot that it is the sandals tourist who keep coming back to Bali such as those from neighbouring (not far) countries such as AU, JP, KR, SG, CH, HK, TW, etc. Some tourist keep coming back sometimes a few times a year as they have BFs, GFs or other halves. Typically these types of tourist are not wealthy like pensioners with big pension pots, but they come regularly. Do you really want them to disappear ??

Even in a well known, world class tourist cities in Europe such as London, Paris, Rome, Barcelona, Milan, Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague, Budapest, Edinburgh, Venice, Istanbul, Dubrovnik, a few to name, Have you ever seen these tourists cities are just targeting wealthy tourists ?. Typically you will find these cities have accommodation from five stars, to hostel accommodation. Same with public transport and taxis, etc Also food from exclusive gourmet restaurant to fast food street vendor.

Why try to redesign a new wheel if the same design failed in the past. There is no good model that has been proven to be working anywhere in the world.

Those who are proposing this scheme do not you ever sleep in hostels, pensions, three stars accommodation when you travel worldwide to any tourist destination especially when you were poor when you were still a student. Do not you ever eat mie goreng, nasi goreng or Seafood from street vendors such as in Jimbaran Bay? Are you sincerely wanting them to disappear ?? Keep in mind like typically in Indonesia when this thing did happen I Wayan Koster has been promoted to a higher level. The problem in Indonesia is those people are not normally accountable for the blunder, wrong decision they made, just the opposite they might be rewarded because of big money getting involved.

If you proposed an indecent proposal to this little girl she would perform a headlock at you and took you down.

Start from here and read everything up until your post. In summary, everything you wrote, direct it to the Bali governor.

I'm curious if Sandiaga has some paws in the fishbowl concerning the Bali Tourist and Bali in general. It always seemed to me that he kept trying to interfere with general Bali business in the name of tourism.

Yes that one who was sandy long ago always strikes me as not the smartest book in the library.

Gormless. Out of their depth. Prone to talking before thinking especially on things concerning that place over there
Its like having a model hanging around just to make the place look younger and prettier

Same with airlines here. Hit 30 and you are sacked. Nevermind you have the experience we need, but you look like an old hag[/airlines logic].

Over the last two months, the conversation around how Bali could, or should, tackle the behavior of a small minority of unruly tourists has reached a fever pitch. Now the Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster, is proposing drastic measures to curb tourism on the island

Of course more and more touristic destinations have a maximum amount of visitors. But those are often very condensed locations, it’s relatively easy to manage the access and they can cap it on a daily base.

But Bali? With domestic and international arrivals and tourists. And what about high season and low season? It’s not very realistic or smart to just throw a number out there like “7 million per year”. But Megawati supports it 🙄
