This is how the Indonesian people and government have treated Rohingya refugees

This is the perspective that the people of Indonesia hold regarding refugees. Take a closer look at the nature of Indonesian individuals, particularly those in the province of Aceh, from a unique standpoint. Simply observe the comments from Indonesian scientists (e.g politicians) and other individuals below in the comments. Breath taking ...

These refugees merit a chance at a meaningful life instead of enduring the hardships of staying adrift at sea, endangering their lives on the ships. It's crucial to highlight that Indonesian governmenn and taxpayers have minimal loses in this, as the nation doesn't offer benefits, social security, free healthcare or education. Furthermore, Indonesia still possesses abundant of lands and islands where these refugees could could be accommodated.

In any sizable group, there will inevitably be a minority displaying negative behaviours. However, unless these behaviours are systematic and representative of the majority, they cannot serve as a justification for withholding humanitarian aid from the entire group.

I'm not a Trump fan but I certainly don't see it that way nor do my Texas friends who are actually affected daily by the border policy and control. If drugs are getting caught at the border, why is the US facing such a fentanyl problem that has grown tremendously the past couple of years? Very well documented that most of it is entering from the souther border after arriving there from China. The overall econmy numbers certianly don't show Biden doing "quite well" either. It may be your opinon that Biden is doing a fine job but with his approval ratings, it doesn't look like many people agree with you.
Biden has got a lot through that helps to US residents. True, his approval numbers are low but I contribute that to his age and how the medias, even those that lean left, seem to put it front and center. I have always been an advocate for an age limit on federal legislature and executive positions, I have no choice in going with choices between the 2 primary ore determined candidates. Both are old. I have to go in the direction of the one that doesn't have 91 criminal indictments against him and won't be in prison for another term. I also have to look at the one that would keep democracy alive and not turn the US into an authoritarian run nation who politicizes every department to serve his personal vindictiveness and build his brands wealth while propping up other authoritarian leaders.

Yes, there are too many crossing the Southern Boarder and yes, the GOP is whining and bitching about it. So, what is their plan? How do they want to fix it? I haven't heard a peep about ways to fix it from them, have you? Don't say build a wall. We all know that was defeated in days. More boarder control officers? Are all the current ones even doing their jobs now? Why are the immigrants who have flown into the US and just stayed not be addressed by the GOP?

How about this. A double fence, 5 meter apart. Inside electric, between fences a pack of dogs, radar installed between and inside fence closest to the US. A select number of gates that are manned with boarder patrol agents. Helicopters over the fencing. Add a MAGA feature while we are at it. Alligators and snakes in the Rio Grande.

It is notable that the Rohinga refugees arrive as family groups with a high percentage of women and children. Looking at people leaving Africa it seems they are predominantly young men on the move trying to find a better life so in that sense do not qualify for the usual accepted meaning of "refugees." There seems little doubt that the Rohinga are refugees but caught in the seemingly intractable problem that few countries are eager to help them.

The government keep bitching about food sustainability. Set aside 1,000 hectare, give them some tools and training and let them farm. Basic building materials and eventually you will have a village. They will have income.

2 or 3 years later conflict with the adjacent villages who are jaleous....
Because they got the land for free, it is better land, they have better production, why government helps outsiders but not locals.... whatever reason, you name it...
But problems are guaranteed.

Indonesia possesses abundant of habitable lands and islands. Extend the opportunity to local residents, particularly those from densely populated regions like Java and Bali, who wish to relocate

In life, issues of envy will always surface. However, if everyone is given equal opportunities and they do not want to take it and, later on, some individuals achieve success through their talents and hard work, envy tends to subside. Ultimately, the argument of jealousy when equal opportunity is given will not win in the hearts of society.

It’s a wonder nobody’s thought of that already. It can even be extended to those who don’t want to relocate.

Indonesia is size of Saudi Arabia and population of US. Land is actually scarce and for that reason becoming expensive everywhere. Indonesia is vast but not so big.

You mean if you squish all the islands together for total land mass?

Yes width is wider than Europe USA etc 6 hrs+ to fly east to west
But condensed actual land yes probably not that big
Population same as US

Vast but nor big- makes the land expensive. US is 9 million km2, Indonesia 2 million km2.

If I remember correctly the good folks in Aceh have in years past welcomed and provided aid to such refugees, even counter to instructions from the authorities.
Why the change? They have the same or better ability today to provide assistance.

Based on the narrative, some refugees exhibit inappropriate behaviour.

However, this occurrence is not unique to any large group or society; it's inevitable that a minority will display negative behaviours. Yet, unless these behaviours are widespread and reflective of the majority, they should not be used as a justification for withholding humanitarian aid from the entire group.

Another factor to consider is the personal funding capacity to endure such situations without government or international intervention.

Additionally, there's a political challenge involved, especially if there's no benefit for politicians supporting these individuals. Rather than bringing in funds, they may require financial assistance. In Indonesia, obtaining nationality is particularly challenging for refugees without marriage to an Indonesian citizen. I've shared this link previously, highlighting Ali's 23-year stay in Indonesia.

I find it interesting the amount of anti-immigrant sentiment in this thread on a website aimed at and largely populated by foreigners moving to and living in this country. Surely we should all have stayed in our own countries and done our part? I suspect we didn't need to flee to Indonesia at all.

Suspicious, if you ask me - all these foreigners coming over 'ere, not learning the language or adopting the local culture. Keep to their own kind, I hear. Betcha they're up to something...

Hohoho....
First of all we all arrived with documents and some money, went through the visa requirements, we did not BEG for asylum, we paid for our visa.
That some want to live as Indonesians to show they are integrated is their choice. From my experience, and what I saw, it is a pipe dream. A white man (or Black, or Arab, or chinese..) will NEVER be integrated. It will work during good times, but as soon bad times (economy, politics, religion..) comes, see what happen.
The foreigner will be blamed...
And this is not specific to Indonesia, it's the same all over the world.
Personnally, after 6 years, I don't speak the language and have little interest to learn it. I respect local customs and believes but they don't apply to me.
I live 100% like a French, eat French, set up my Christmas tree and my (very small) circle of relations are all Europeans.
"Our" situation has NOTHING in common with that of illegal refugies...

One more thing : I am not anti-immigrant, I am just beeing realist. Real politik, you know ? Facts will always win over dreams !

Disclaimer : I live with an Indonesian since over 8 years, went to to the jungle village multiple times, have good relations with her family, and when there I am a good diplomat...

Actually, last week Jokowi said he wanted to make available 1,000 hectare for additional farming to aid in supplying food needs for the nation. Of course, it would be for locals.

It is called "settlers colonialism". That is how the western part of Papua went from all indigeneous to 50% indigeneous population.

Indonesia does not have abundant land, and has more than 1000 ethnic groups.

I am neither a refugee or an immigrant
I am an expatriate
I came here financially stable legally for work reasons
When my "contract" finishes I might leave or I might renew or I may even find new employment or even leave the country

But I didn't come here seeking asylum

Very big difference my friend
