How to obtain Indonesian Citizenship

Did they require an additional letter or document, or did the letter provided by the consulate as above fulfil the requirements for obtaining the Naturalization Certificate from the Indonesian government?
I had to get the letter of no objection & then I had to go back and get my passport cancelled- they cut it.
& then I had to send everything in to the UK to renounce UK citizenship, after I had my certificate of citizenship from RI.

I doubt very much any country that permits dual citizenship will automatically renounce YOU if you get another citizenship.
It just doesn't work that way.
Yes, that's what I mean, that's why for me seems not clear why required document is "Asli surat keterangan dari perwakilan negara Pemohon yang menerangkan jika Pemohon memperoleh Kewarganegaraan Republik Indonesia maka yang bersangkutan kehilangan kewarganegaraannya" although many countries don't automatically renounce citizenship just because of getting another one.

But Indonesia doesn't allow it. After age 18
Cannot hold dual citizenship if one is Indonesian
A child of mixed marriage could have Dual Nationality and immigration facility is valid until the child reaches 21 (twenty one) years old. Afterward, the child must choose nationality between Indonesian and foreign nationality

More exact is that the child should choose between the age of 18-21 that's considered the deciding time. After 21 it is still possible to change your citizenship but it's more expensive, sorry that I don't have the law at hand now.

The wordings used in the earlier message is the wordings from the official site of "the Indonesian Foreign Ministry (kemlu)", focusing on the consular affairs for Indonesian citizens abroad. I haven't directly reviewed the precise wordings of the law which written in Indonesian. I agree that your interpretation is more precise. But in any case the message is pretty clear, no ambiguity here, you can not have dual nationality after turning 21.

After waiting a year i finally got my SKIM from immigration, and my next step was to get the letter from my embassy that says the embassy will allow me to surrender my citizenship once obtaining indonesian citizenship. Now my embassy is messing me around. They said i can only be provided with the consular services that they offer & they wont do anything outside of their scope. So yes, surrendering citizenship is on the list... But that i cant apply before becoming indonesian first. Now im in this catch 22 situation. Only because of a silly letter, i cant continue my process to become indonesian.

What you need is basically a letter of no objection. Ask your embassy what they suggest - the art of the deal to quote a manky book title s to communicate extremely well with the embassy and with the Indonesian citizenship side of things - I forget who it is that wants to see the embassy stuff- is it AHU or immigration?

It is AHU who want to see that letter, and my embassy (south africa) are telling me that a letter of no objection is not on their list of consular services. When it comes to citizenship related consular services, they only offer renunciation or retention of citizenship... I was thinking if i should try to apply to retain my citizenship... But that would grind gears on the indonesian side! And i dont know yet what sort of letter or anything at all we would get from the embassy on that one? Now that im thinking about it, i should find out more information on this choice.

Yes now would be a good time to find out more information

Also don't fly anywhere

I would certainly enter into a conversation with AHU- I found them extremely helpful (one member of staff gave us her private wa number and explained things in detail to my husband when he was unsure about what was precisely needed). Even if it is just to find out the likelihood of your application being rejected- though, if you have all your ducks in a row there should not be much risk of that. If you explain the difficulties you are experiencing with your embassy to them it makes you just a bit more than a number in a file to them.

Hello, I've read all the posts here, some things are still not clear in my mind,

I am married to an Indonesian citizen for 6 years and have resided here for 6 consequent years. I know I am eligible and I will be applying for the declaration of citizenship via online application soon enough. Do I need to prove that I have an active job or income? If so, what kind of proof do I need for that?

Before, Ms "3 sisters" stated that she didn't need to go through any interview through online application, is it still the same? Or do I need to have an interview?

When people from gvt visit us, what do they basically ask us? I can prepare the online documents but apart from those documents what documents do I need to show them when they pay a visit to my home?

I know most of these are written on this post already but please elaborate it all here which would also come in handy for newbies like me on this forum.

Many thanks in advance.

You must hold a KITAP too.

You need to prove (according Atlantis) . I guess the easiest way to prove is with a copy of a bank account balance report (this is how I proved to Immigration , KanWill may be different) . They may ask reports of 3 prior months.

Well , members (3 sisters , centurion , ..) said in 2018 that there was no interview for foreigners married to Indonesians , but a Minister's Regulation from 2020 seems to change that (see details below) .

Maybe during the interview they will check the original documents that someone presented online (see Article 5 below) .

Thank you Marcus! (y)
No.9-20 sound like Penataran P4 to me :sneaky:. There's no immediate plan to apply, but I said to my husband that he should learn and I will give him a test :ROFLMAO:.

This is not the route for marriage citizenship as far as I know- it is for people seeking citizenship via alternative routes.

Ministerial regulation is for applications that go to the President, meaning excluding the spouse route. The regualtion is replaced with PerMen 10/2024.

In the spouse toute, a short inteview is usually done during the SKIM process, no singing Indonesia Raya or jumping on one foot.

Could you tell us the related Regulation ? The PerMen 21/2020 or PerMen 10/2024 do not mention that , as far I quickly saw .
The regulation is replaced with PerMen 10/2024.
From a quick look , it does not replace but only change (no relevant change , as far as I quickly saw - the interview content did not change).
In the spouse route, a short interview is usually done during the SKIM process, no singing Indonesia Raya or jumping on one foot.
Again , could you tell us the related Regulation ?

Could you share your own experience regarding the interview part only ma'am ?

What questions did they ask you ?

For example; were you asked a question about some sort of income or a financial detail / possessions etc?

Were you asked about your level of bahasa indonesia?

Were you asked about tax details?

Were you asked about your job details?

Or pancasila knowledge, or the names of the presidents / history of Indonesia etc..
