He thinks the answer is to welcome more rich tourists. Funnily enough the problems didn't happen when Bali was more of a backpacker destination! So maybe the problem has been caused by the previous attempts to lure wealthier tourists. Maybe the answer is to exclude people with more money than brains.

I have no connection with Intan apart from sharing the same views. Keep in mind noone is forcing a person like Intan to dress like that. For someone like Intan wearing swimwear is a way of expressing their confidence and sexuality. They might feel comfortable and empowered in their bodies, and they may want to show that off. It is the same thing with body builders on the stage. Noone has been left disadvantage unless they choose to play a role as a victim. It is a win win situation they want to get attraction they get attraction.

I personally would like to see more Indonesian expressionists like Intan to balance or challenge the view of people who want to see Indonesians women to wear Burkhas, Hijabs. Aceh is already there, the balance views and tolerance will halt the extremists movement who want to see Indonesia like Afghanistan.

Hopefully someday Indonesia will have nudist beach, or like FKK in Germany.

My friend was saying I was "selera bule," or a "a white-person's type," because of my skin-tone. So it was both an insult (your skin is too dark) and a compliment (you'll marry some handsome foreigner, because, you know, some people think all foreigners are handsome for some reason). To me it’s just a stereotype. The average Indonesian men prefer light skinned women with a sharp nose, oval face, and defined cheek bones, somewhat close to the western standard.

It’s worth saying that stereotypes by their very nature don’t apply to everybody, and they’re always offensive to somebody.

These ladies are considered some of the most beautiful in Indonesia, but they hardly stand out when you put them on the street in NYC or LA. They don’t look special to the average bule.

The Javanese look is more like round face, round nose, with the darker complexion of a ripe sawo fruit. It’s positively different and can be quite exotic for westerners, but in Java it’s very ordinary. I guess we tend to look for what we can’t normally have.

Showing your body, attractiveness to earn money is not a sign that you are not intelligent. Catwalk models, beauty pageants, miss wold, miss universe, all are showing their bodies and they are proud of it. Noone is forcing them. Not to mention body builders are showing their bodies, muscles to public to earn money.

If you know your body, attractiveness is your comparative advantage and you do not have much better alternatives why not monetize it for your advantage ? There are also other emerging business model to monetize it such as "OnlyFans"

Using your comparative advantage is an intelligent way to be successful in Business. It is based on a well founded theory in economics that has stood the test of the time. They earn money while doing what they like. If they are fat, short, with full of fat around tummy which after several attempts have been proven to not generate revenues but they keep doing it; this is what the sensible people will call it idiots. Filipinos will call them "Carabao" (e.g "Kerbau" in Indonesian)

Some newbie models are using "Victoria Secret", the world most renown lingerie makers/retailers as a step stone to leapfrog their careers as they know, they will get spotted by the talent scouts on many events. Are they not intelligent ?

While some of them might be bimbos, reasonable number of them become super models. A few to name Gisele Bündchen, Karlie Kloss, Tyra Banks, Adriana Lima, Candice Swanepoel.

Also keep in mind if it does not have a view now, it does not mean it will not be in the future. Those videos will stay indefinitely giving her passive income for life even while she is sleeping. If you want to compare Intan's intelligence, you will need to compare her with ordinary Indonesians not with top scientists or billionaires.

The idea of not intelligent just because a person is showing her body, attractiveness with thongs, bikinis is absurd, ill judged and does not hold water.

Also if you watch some her videos she speaks english. Although it has not been proven to the competent level but she speaks english with a proper accent. Not many Indonesian people have that accent. You need to compare her with ordinary Indonesian not with top scientists or billionaires.

This is the series of his vlogs. Documenting his journey with "bule" as a surf trainer in Bali. The title of his channel is also a little bit provocative "Anak pantai sedikit nakal (e.g Beach boy a little bit naughty)"

Also watch the girls. They are wearing bikinis, thongs and they are comfortable and proud of it. What happen someday if they are forced to wear burkas, hijabs or balaclavas. On the beach the by passers might be confusing them with giant penguins.

Skin gets views here. If the religious nut cases who have too much control over the government didn't make seeing skin so taboo, there would be more openness socially resulting in less views for something that is more open. If people taught respect for others instead of reasons to denounce, the world would be a more peaceful place.
 
Oh, my wife went topless on Kuta beach in 2012. She wasn't alone. There were a few Western Ladies doing the same. Before doing so she was informed that the Western ladies get away with it but an Indonesian would be wrapped and led off the beach to the police station and possibly charged for public indecency. She is a risk taker and a challenger with her skin tone is that of her darker Indian father. A few lookers passing by but nothing said.
 
Speaking of toplessness, in the 1920s it was a perfectly normal state of dress for Balinese women. A few decades before that, it was common in Java too.

They didn’t see women’s breasts as erotic, just like today we don’t see men’s breasts as erotic either. The Dutch and their ‘modern’ western sensibilities taught Balinese that boobs are taboo. It’s rather amusing that today westerners are the ones pushing to free the nipples.

I believe Bali was somewhat topless up until the early 50s. You are correct about Java women but it would fit the whole of the nation.

The dutch introduced the Kabaya to the more well to do Indonesian women to "cover for modesty purposes" when in the company of the dutch. The first kabayas were transparent lace.

Javanese women were topless up until about the turn of the century so one has to ask, were the women of that those days worse Muslims than today's Muslims who would have them arrested for such a sight? Has Islam changed or is it the men who decide what means what?
