Fair and peaceful campaigning?

Surprise... Fifi, sister of Ahok, supports Prabowo https://www.dream.co.id/news/adik-ahok-sowan-ke-prabowo-ini-yang-dibahas-190415c.html

She describes Prabowo as big hearted "Adalah anugerah yang luar biasa dan merupakan suatu kehormatan bisa bertemu kembali dengan Bapak Prabowo Subianto, sosok pemimpin berhati besar".

She confirmed her support by stating that Prabowo is the best choice for her "Bagi saya beliau adalah pemimpin pilihan terbaik".

so its all over but the crying.
Don't know how it was in other areas but it was very quiet round here all day.
Walked to the voting station with the wife this morning and all seemed calm. Met a few neighbours we rarely see then came home.

Fadil Zon is so salty on TV One ?

Let's see how this goes. Prabowo reiterated today that he cannot guarantee there won't be unrest if he loses. That's a completely irresponsible statement. Let's hope his supporters are smarter than he gives them credit for.

Just as in 2014, kawalpemilu.org is keeping tabs on elections. Staffed entirely by volunteers, it crowd sources to record vote tabulations at the TPS (polling station) level (C-1 form). You can drill down all the way to your neighborhood TPS and see a photo/scan of the C-1 form. Pretty cool.

On a separate note, on a technical level Indonesian voting is quite sophisticated. Lots of good things I like about it:

  1. Three day quiet period from campaigning before the vote
  2. Voting day is a national holiday
  3. KPU website shows you your TPS by inputting KTP information
  4. Using ink on finger to prevent double voting
  5. Lots of merchants offering discounts for people who voted and showing ink
  6. Paper trail such as C-1 form allowing efforts such as Kawal Pemilu.

Looks like 55:45 for Jokowi. One of the less exciting elections of recent years (compared with Trump, Ahok, Brexit, Macron etc.) but good that it has gone ahead peacefully, no disruptions or demos, no-one jailed etc. Now 2024 could be a lot more interesting ....

Excitement could still be ahead....:cautious:

Just like in 2014, Prabowo claims victory according to his count, and accuses survey companies of shaping public opinion that he lost. Guy is shameless. I bet he's glad Sandi footed the bill this time.

In Bali, it looks like Jokowi is going to have a 90-10 lead over Prabowo....which is high even for Bali. Of course, Bali has been a PDI-P stronghold since the days of Soekarno. But in 2014 Prabowo lost something like "only" 72-28.

More importantly, Jokowi is significantly outperforming his 2014 numbers in Central and East Java. Those two provinces have over half of Java's population, and over 1/4 of Indonesia's.

So it seems like 10%, as predicted.

Exactly the amount of ‘fake votes’.

Here is the link to the real count results (still underway at the time of posting) :

Underway... have barely begun, it seems... "Versi: 18 Apr 2019 07:30:03 Progress: 866 dari 813.350 TPS (0.10647%)"
Seriously, they have counted just over one tenth of one percent of the votes??? At this rate, it seems that they will be nowhere near finished by Lebaran.

NPR (National Public Radio) reported that the "Quick Count" favors Jokowi by a "large margin."

By law KPU has 35 days to publish official results, so around May 22nd.

What do you mean 'fake votes'? Can you please elaborate (if possible)?

A few weeks before the election, realizing that most poll has him down by 10%, Prabowo has claimed there are 17.5 million fake ballots out there. Which "coincidentally" is also the number he is predicted to lose by.

@jstar mentioned it in a post a while back in this thread: https://www.expatindo.org/community/threads/fair-and-peaceful-campaigning.4146/page-5#post-59248

Now of course this is nonsense, just like the rest of the claptrap coming from Prab's camp. No matter how many "fake" ballots are out there (if any, since Prab didn't offer any proof), the results are very transparent, and everyone can verify their TPS count if they want to.

Further, TPS counts are then uploaded to both KPU website, and also via crowdsourcing to independently run kawalpemilu.org. TPS counts are then aggregated to higher levels (District -> Regency -> Province, etc).

Any opportunity for cheating is when numbers are inflated between the TPS count and aggregated count. However, sites such as kawalpemilu negate the possibility of this.

"Fake ballots"... this guy really does like to pull pages straight out of Trump's playbook, doesn't he?

Another thought: yesterday, when Prabowo said (in Bahasa Indonesia) that he is not an anarchist, that was basically the equivalent of, "I'm not a racist, but..." or "No offense, but..."

What surprised me a bit (in a negative way), is that the PAN would make the election threshold with 6,5% of the votes. Of course this is not official KPU info...
