EV in Indonesia

From the slope of Majestic mount Agung, I'm auditing million barrel oil equivalent cash register. I can smell and taste it from more than 12,000km away. fragrant and stinky smelly, sweet and bitter tastes at the same time.

I believe we'll still be producing oil and gas for hundreds years - at what level?, I dont know.
I hope your belief in oil production is wrong! It's time for Humans to grow up and use their brains and move on to clean energy!

Not sure they have complained. Doesn't seem to bother them at this point. Maybe when something actually breaks they will take it in for service. I pointed it out to them but who knows how much weight anything I say has in their mind. I imagine the tires will wear out quickly with those loose front end steering and suspension components. Much like everything time will tell. 5-7 years down the road and see if it is still drivable.
Preventive maintenance isn't in the Indonesian vocabulary. Things need to completely brake before they get any attention and if those things don't affect their life personally then it will just have to wait.

I have been working in the oil and gas industry for over 35 years; I don't think I am working for something I believe is wrong,
I am not an angel and am not trying to be or pretend to be one.
Just a tiny bolt in a giant machine, to keep it running smoothly - not always possible
I do my best to keep those around me safe - not always possible;
so that the big machines keep pumping money out of the ground without destroying the environment - although that's not always possible too.

and the small money goes to my pocket will keep me and people I love to have better life
and few pennies will also goes to others in need

Yes, I'm very selfish and not smart to protect our planet.

Maybe only for certain components, motor, drive train...
Not sure suspension would be covered more than 1 year ?
Yes but in routine service the service would mention what parts are for change (bushings, shockbreakers, tiller rods etc...). Any info on that?

A bee in my bonnet is the role of the petroleum industry regarding the massive world wide problem now with plastic waste and micro plastics finding their way through the food chain into humans. My view is that instead of the problem being pushed at consumers as their responsibility, the petroleum industry should be playing a major part in dealing with waste. I suspect that whatever the industry does with regard to waste management is based essentially on public relations value and is very resistant to being taxed appropriately for a serious impact on world wide clean up. As someone in the industry to what extent do you see the industry having a responsibility regarding plastsic waste?

There is not and will not be sufficient answer, let alone from a tiny piece of bolt in a big machine.
Much but not enough and will never be enough has been done by industries - not just the petroleum industry - to address waste and other world problems.
I believe we all have a responsibility to make things better. let ask what we've done no matter small.
I won't answer directly as I don't have the ability to do so, but I know that the company I worked for is transitioning from an oil company to green and greener energy. They do supports for improved circularity of the global plastics market and encourages reduction, reuse and recycling of plastics.
I believe other more less similar.
But remember, no angel, and evils are always there.
They are not built for charity but they are not Sauron.

'I was just a tiny part of the big machine, I couldn't change anything by myself '

This is perhaps an unfortunate line of argument to use considering which group of people used it in the past..

Agree with that statement but IMO it's even more ridiculous that you should be doing repair work on a 2 month old vechilce.

I live in a real life, rather than whining, dreaming, crying, cursing and do nothing - I do small-small thing to make me happy first and hopefully better for more and others; but do not pretend to change the world or extend the doomsday, I'll do what I can do. That's all; as I said I'm very selfish.

You are absolutely right about the industry forcing the responsibility on the consumers. It is a known fact, that they have all the politicians, governments, under their thumb by payoffs, and a huge lobbying committee. It's a criminal act and they should held accountable.
But due to the corrupt judicial system, they can put off any punishments for their crimes, by delaying and delaying, until it's almost a forgotten issue. Just look at what Trump did. He was found guilty of 38 felonies, and through payoffs and delays still walks free, and even duped the people into elect him President again.
So unfortunately the Oceans and People will be bombarded with more and more plastic!
Also a very good question, for the poster that worked for years in this industry?

Sounds like a cop out to me, like an ostrich sticking it's head in the sand, what it doesn't see doesn't exist!

I was just following orders they said.
Exactly, you are very correct. In my capacity as employee, I did what my employer order as per my job description, role and responsibility.
If for some reason I dont want or can't or not able to follow, I simply quit - or to be more specific, early retired.
I'am doing my job as an engineer and very proud with my profession. I'm expert on my discipline area which is very niche.
I'm not politician, I'm not lawyer neither physician. I'm not expert for everything and not pretending to be expert on everything.
And I'm not a dreamer.

Just a sarcasm. Oil is necessary anyway.

No wahala, just to clarify my position.

Anyway, back to EV - . I had a dream (but I'm not a dreamer) to have a house with full PV panel to power the entire house as well as to power EV and ebike - a fossil fuel free house.
So back to Indonesia early this year, i immediately bought an e-bike first and kept looking for a medium size EV or PHEV. However, I'm not very happy with the performance of the Lithium battery. So I temporary removed full EV and look more for PHEV, unfortunately I could not find medium size PHEV within my Rp. 1B budget. Could not wait longer as I have to move to very kampung in Bali, bought a medium size Chinese ICE, Cherry Tiggo 8 Pro; my other objective is to check how good and reliable the Chinese car before we purchase an EV.

I keep following the EV progress, BYD and Cherry is in my wish list for next year.

Even new cars can have mutiple problems. Many years ago in Australia I had a weekly radio program, "Overdrive" about cars. One program was called, "Buying a new car can be a physical and mental health hazard." We had many interviewees with upwards of 50 problems with their new cars and a devil of a job having problems rectified. We also had a Ford employee (voice disguised) explaining how rusted parts were simply sprayed over.

Not saying that it would be the case but I would expect less corners to be cut the higher you go in price. They have to do something to sell something at a price lower than everyone else. Not sure I want to make those trade offs. With that being said I had an engine go out in a brand new Acura in less than a week. Can't imagine that happens often. Acura just replaced the car instead of making me take a new engine in less than a week.

For those having a general interest in the E.V. subject :

There is going to be a tipping point, probably sometime in 3 or 4 years, where all of the old car manufacturers will all go bust very quickly. Petrol stations will start closing due to not enough customers. EV cars will get cheaper and ICE cars will get more expensive due to losing economies of scale. Batteries will be able to last for 1m kilometers.
The realization that this is going to happen is why the big car manufacturers are already laying off staff and closing factories.
