Decrease of Indonesian Middle Class

... Population increased by about 12 million ... My interpretation of the rueters data is most of that increase was in the vulnerable category ...
From decades ago I have noticed that everywhere in the world , (in general) rich people are not interested in having children but poor people have too many children .
What is interesting to me is how this has not affected other major markets such as real estate...
Within 150 meters from my house there are 3 small houses to sell and looks like nobody wants to buy . Two others were sold to "rich" people : 1 (sold after some 7 years with 50% discount) was divided in 2 , to rent ; and the other was demolished to build a 2-story building for renting rooms .

It seems rooms for rent are in big demand probably because poor people/families cannot afford to rent a house . Within 150 meters from my house there are already 5 places exclusively with rooms for rent (besides family houses also offering 1 or 2 rooms for rent) .

Here in Bali the cost for rentals or purchase just keeps going up. I imagine that for local "middle class" it is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain their lifestyle unless they own their own accommodation. Ever increasing numbers of foreigners buying in to the market has pushed that inflationary trend. How this washes out with cash flow to locals gaining employment I do not know but should the war in the Ukraine end it will be interesting to see how it all turns out.

I think one factor contributing to this is the influx of immigrants from Russia and Ukraine seeking to escape the war. Additionally, there are remote workers and digital nomads to consider.

For remote workers and digital nomads, digital content creators if they can find ways to shield their global income, living in a tropical country with significantly lower living costs offers a substantial advantage.

As usual there will be a bubble burst, just wait when will it does happen.

I wonder what you mean by remote workers? People coming from Java, Sulawesi, etc? Also I would think anyone that could shield their global income would, if they had a chance. I don't think being a so called digital nomad, is an easy way to make a living. They would have to be very creative, wherever they live.

The term of Remote workers used by immigration typically refers to an individual who is employed by a company or operates their own business in one country but performs their work remotely from another country.

Quite similar to digital NOMAD. But remote worker is a wider term which also include digital NOMAD. You definitely need an internet connection, mean to arrange a virtual meeting with your client but you do not necessarily to be IT savvy. You do not need to work as IT help desk, digital content creators, etc.

In loser term of remote worker, think about remote working during COVID-19 as people can not work in their own offices..
