It would be interesting to know, how much salaries are paid in what kind of positions at what levels. Just global.

Couple of weeks ago, a man left his bank slip in the atm, and I was next. On the bank slip I saw he paid someone 60.000 rupiah and his bank total was 460 juta. I checked on the internet the names. He is a young lawyer (around mid 30 years) at a prestigious indonesian firm and he paid his secretary apparently.

According to the fore mentioned book. In the 80's not everyone was allowed in the mall(s). Strict rules about shoes and clothes. You even have to show your creditcard. Malls in those days consist mainly of luxery (western branded) shops.

Nowadays, everyone is allowed to enter as I know. With slippers, celena pendek .. Shareholders and owners of malls discovered that malls now, cannot exists without the restaurants and foodcourts with fast food and snacks. Middle class is keeping the malls "alive". During weekdays I see many ibu-ibu with their anak-anak ... On Sundays whole familes besiege the mall. My wife and I cannot eat anywhere, full restaurants everywhere in the mall. Shopping is no fun on Sundays. In the shop e.g. Decathlon many parents drop their kids to play there, while they go shopping, go to hair, nail or massage salons. The manager of Decathlon complained to the regional manager about the setup of the store, but because he is a foreigner (French) he doesn't understand the problem saying all the stuff in the store is stuff to try out, like the tents, bikes, fitness gear.

As it happened I knew a fellow named Ron who was an enormous size. He used to buy four sarongs, have them stitched together and would wear this but never turned away from the casino. He was a big gambler and, as I was later to find out, a dealer in prostitution and marijuana. He went to gaol for four years but I imagine turning up at the casino after release I am sure he would have been allowed immediate access.

Various restaurants (depending on what the group decides like Internations and I don't remember the other one but it was at Paulaner when the government started easing up on the pandemic restriction... people were mostly exchanging business cards...). I personally have met at somebody's apartment before (wine enthusiast) just a small group of four, but the group lasted a few months. I couldn't keep up with his drinking and the guy threw a tantrum when I wanted to hold off on one tasting event (we had quite a bit of tasting almost two weeks in a row prior) and another guy was being childish and said it was my 'fault' for not wanting to do it. So I stopped hanging out with them.

If I'm not mistaken....a guy who was an 'ambassador' for Internations pretty much poached the members and moved to create a new group. He was making decent money doing it...I came to Internation once...not my cup of tea and they changed the meeting time from 6 to 7 (and as always many people came even later)..the guy was not even slightly apologetic told me to just sit down and wait. No welcome drink nothing. About 250K for just two bites of food and a bottle of Bintang or ice tea (which I opted out).

I bet you also felt (or even are) excluded from the others, because many of them already know eachother. They already form a "gang". Well known phenomena in psychology.

They're mostly young (25 max i think with a few maybe reaching 30) and you are correct I think they're just aiming to find similar minded folks (just to talk over loud music, etc) I'm too 'boring' for them. My friend told me that normally if they see you coming 2-3 times, some may warm up to you, but I didn't wanna waste my time. Plus most of the time the events are in the far south (crazy traffic jam area like Kemang, Senopati, Gunawarman) and sometimes the smaller group will go to the after party-party...I love my wine but have passed that staying up late drinking stage a while ago!

I used to run an expat (and repat) meet-up, that I managed to keep 100% clear of bule hunters (and the like) and through it met half of my friends in the city (mix of locals and foreigners).
The others ones are not so good in my opinion (maybe I'm biased), because my one was always run by women it kept the bule hunters away (plus we vetted anyone joining who didnt fit the criteria). I get the impression some of the hosts in the other ones are making money from doing it somehow.
I keep saying I'll do the events again but honestly - it's so much work. Making sure a group of 30+ strangers are enjoying themselves is hard work. Making sure everyone pays their bill is a pain in the arse too.
