EV in Indonesia

Add to that the
The carbon footprint of the charging would depend on the source of electricity. If it's dirty coal burned without efficient scrubbers then it's still a significant carbon footprint. Apart from the carbon emissions we also have to factor in the environmental and social costs of producing the materials needed for those batteries. Those costs are high and there are plenty of examples close at hand.
Add to that the (coal generated) electricity used to mine and process the coal destinated to charge your EV. And the diesel used to transport it...
Look at the ecological disaster that are lithium and other rare earth metal mines. Have a look at the water use...

Western government push people towards EV, electric bikes or pushbikes to save a minimal amount of carbone gas emissions.

But at the same time they generously sponsor the war in Ukraine, Gaza, or keep a blind eye on Yemen, Syria, Libya etc....
Anybody ever calculated the carbon impact of ONE day of war in Ukraine ?
Gonna take me a few lifetimes of pedalling to compensate that....

Conclusion : it's utter bullshit...

Do you always wake up so early in the morning? Just interested hahaha.
I have a kid to get to school, What's your excuse?😉

Always woke up early in my life. When you do 7am to 7 pm shifts, being up at 05:00 is the rule.
And even retired I kept that habit.
Up at 05:00, feed the cats, shower, breakfast, 06:30 in the pool for my morning swim, and then I start the day !

That's a good way to live in my opinion and I understand what you mean. My stepdad was a construction worker, had a similar schedule as you. Started working at 7 and came home around 6. Always woke up at 4:45 and began his daily routines, morning walk with the dogs..breakfast and so on. Never changedz even after retiring. Kept him alive for 80 years, I think if he didn't have an accident he would still be alive.
For myself as a baker, getting up early was a must anyway and I never got that out of my system. So now waking up at 5 preparing the kid for school is actually already a luxury for me. I also can't sleep much longer, even on weekends. I always feel like when I wake up too late then Iam running behind, even if I have nothing special to do.😂

I predict a lot of those expired batteries will get thrown in the river. Unless someone is offering money for them.

Lithium plus water. Interesting mix. Stand clear

Just pierce your iPhone battery and expose it to air and see what happens

Worked in construction for 33 years.
And before that 7 years Navy. And a ship moves 24/24, 7 days a week, so forget about a "regular sleep pattern" .
But a very good "school of life".
Agreed that baker you sure know about starting the day early !

Early to bed, and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.

In the E-bike market people are buying them for scrap and repurposing them and repacking the good cells to be used for bikes. Same with the emergency power units that have lithium cells

A Tesla with "B" plates parked next to me in Bali the other day so I asked the guy if he drove from Jakarta and how he recharged, and he said it was impractical to try and charge along the toll road and that he had the car sent over on a truck and flew here and will do the same when he goes back to Jakarta. It would have seemed easier just to rent a car in Bali for the week or two.

But now he can show off with driving a Tesla around in Bali ... what's that called? Pamer?

Could be. But quite many people with young- and oldtimers have the same arrangements.

I don’t really get why driving a Tesla would be showing off? Most of them in Jakarta are from rental companies / online taxi’s. A bit like the MB E-series in Western Europe. Also, unlike Hyundai, Kia, MG and Wuling, it’s still grey import. So that won’t help with parts and repairs.

Of course Indonesia does not have the infrastructure, this is not Norway or the Netherlands. But in fact it would be very easy to combine electric transportation with solar panels and even a wall battery. With two huge car manufacturers doing evening they can to block the BEV and promote their HEV solutions and gasoline being subsidized, it will take quite some time.

I spoke with a Grab driver today, who told me there are quite some invited to go the ‘inauguration’ of the new capital.

Since the drivers on Bali are more used to driving around officials and international events, they get them from there.

To get back to the theme of the thread: Only Electric Vehicles are allowed, they get a Toyota, BMW or Wuling.

BYD to set up $1.3b EV plant in Indonesia, targets operations by 2026

BYD’s investment makes it the latest automaker to set up EV manufacturing operations in Indonesia. South Korea’s Hyundai and China’s Wuling have both had EV plants in the country since 2022.

For the plant, BYD is teaming up with Suryacipta Swadaya, the industrial estate arm of IDX-listed construction firm Surya Internusa Group. Suryacipta owns the Subang Smartpolitan industrial zone, where BYD’s factory will be located.

The plant development was first revealed by Airlangga Hartarto, Indonesia’s coordinating minister for economic affairs, in January. At the time, Zhao said that the company aims to sell in 50 locations across the country by the end of this year.

BYD, which has quickly risen to become a major global EV player, unveiled three electric car models for the Indonesian market earlier this year. It also secured a deal with local taxi company Blue Bird to become its main EV supplier.

This sounds like another product being promoted, that is like putting the cart before the horse? Look at the situation with the plastic pollution problem! Plastic, being thrown everywhere, and nowhere to recycle it, thus destroying Bali!
If they produce all these EV's, then they should set up a sufficient amount of charging station's! I do think using Electricity to power vehicles is a great, much needed idea, to stop using so much petroleum, but I've heard that to produce the batteries, is a problem with having to use rare Earth metals, thus making them overly expensive. Also these rare metals are found in only a few countries around the world, thus creating a potential problem with having these countries controlling the production and cost without control!
Also having to use petroleum to create the electricity to charge them. So it seems until these problems are corrected, it defeat the good of using EV's.
