US Presidential Election - What's your take?

A sad indictment on the state of politics that someone so under qualified, so misogynistic, so racist, so appallingly geopolitically ill-equipped for the world stage should be elected as President of the world's most powerful nation. If nothing else I hope this sends a message to politicians around the globe that the people have had enough of their lies and deceit as I can only assume it was Trumps seemingly dumb honesty that got him elected.

I really can't believe it.

Under qualified ? If a man or women makes from inherited millions finally BILLIONS, this looks to me very qualified (and don't tell me the BS, that he crashed a couple of firms, that's a usual procedure if you grow.)

He wrote about 16 books, 'The Art of Deal' was for 51 weeks on the best seller list of New York Times and had been sold about a million time... Still under qualified ? (yeah, he had for sure ghostwriter's, as he will have ghost politicians as a president)

Geopolitically ill-equipped for the world stage ? Cmon... what have all the others reached in the last couple years ? Progress on climate issues ? Human Rights in China ? No more starving in Africa ? Or solving the conflict between Israel and Palastine ? He may has not yet an idea, but all the others had no intention for a change.

So misogynistic, so racist : here I have to less information about that, only what I heard on the news and that he co-owns the Miss-Universe Organisation. I like pretty women , but this is maybe already misogynistic... I'm too old for that gender-shit ! Oh, about the news, they really tried to manipulate the american people with their hillary-hillary-hillary-thing in the news. In fact, all was a lie, the predicts were all wrong and their plan to manipulate the people failed. Establishment is now shocked...

" If nothing else I hope this sends a message to politicians around the globe that the people have had enough of their lies and deceit as I can only assume it was Trumps seemingly dumb honesty that got him elected." ??????

ITS THE FEELING OF THE PEOPLE !!!! They have enough ! Not only in the US. Also here in Europe, we are pretty pissed of our politicians !! And yes, 80% of the folks are working in lower positions, fabric work or simple office work. Its just a few who like that wallstreet-stockmarket-money-for-nothing-game where the benefit is for the managers and the loss is for the community. We're also pissed of all the politicians who sell they'r own country and population to other nations...

I love the UK and their decision to leave the European Union and I'm pretty sure I will LOVE Donald Trump too ! And I hope he keep his promise, America first !!!!

What a cool world, America is not anymore playing world police, no more war's are startet by the US, no more terrorist are created by the US, no more refugee streams are created by the US, no more bashing from US and Nato against Putin (WTF we care about the Krim or Ukraine ??)....

So, in Trump I trust ! Just my 2 cents....

For once Michael Moore is right, the election of Trump is a giant middle finger extended by the lower middle class to the elites.

That's for sure... I would just prefer (for their own sake) they choose someone who would not be openly extremely racist and sexist... and someone who could fix "ObamaCare" instead of destroying it.

US will probably change with Trump, I'm not sure it will be for the best!

My wife was reading on Kompas news, that the Canadian Immigration Website crashed the night of the election.

Trump's speech when it was announced he was the winner was actually good. Credit it to him for speaking well of Hillary and what she did as SoS.

I had heard that he would be more of a CEO and let Pence run things. We will see if that is the case or not.

Clinton and the Democrats are also to blame in this. They picked the worst candidate from their party. A 75 year socialist jew almost beat her and the party had rigged the system. Many people voted for him simply because it wasn't her. From day 1 it felt like Americans were being told we had to elect Clinton. Americans, especially this one, hate being told what to do.

Part of me is glad and hopes she and the stupid media deserve this. That whole stupid episode on when he calls a woman fat who signed up to be judged on her appearance. Petty.

Hillary ignored the white working class and I think that what has come back to bite her in the ass. Trump reached out to them and in so doing, took historically democratic voting states that Hillary decided to just take for granted.

I really don't think it's about what Hillary did, it's all about what she is. She represents the establishment, and Donald doesn't.

It's also about what she didn't do. She didn't even go to WI because it was historically in the bag. She there and in Michigan didn't bother with the white blue color worker who have felt the establishment has forgotten them. If she would have taken those two it may have been a whole different story. She didn't bother with the rust belt.

"I am making you rich again" and people fell for it, he is the mother of all conmen. He couldn't con California though. From now on I am Californian first and American in Trump's America second.
P.S. waarmie and nimbus there is room for you in California.

The speech was conciliatory but it wasn't his speech, somebody wrote it for him.

Donald trump as President - the biggest fuck up the Americans have made since Vietnam.

When we re-elected Bush the world was flabbergasted and yes he ran Clinton's surplus into the ground and it took a democratic president to pull us out of near recession. Now the world is in shock again by America electing Trump who is going to have bigger tax cuts and rebuild the military and our infra structure, where is the money coming from.

My employer gives me good health insurance coverage, so even if the repub government kills Obamacare it doesn't make a difference to me. Other federal stuff (immigration, taxes, etc.) are gonna affect me the same regardless of state.

Its not that he lost it all; he didn't, but he did screw investors, stockholders, contractors and employees who lost everything when his ill fated and poorly managed Atlantic City Casino enterprise went belly up while he paid himself millions to manage the debacle.

He wrote about 16 books, 'The Art of Deal' was for 51 weeks on the best seller list of New York Times and had been sold about a million time... Still under qualified ? (yeah, he had for sure ghostwriter's, as he will have ghost politicians as a president)

He did not write anything. He does not have the attention span to read a menu, let alone compose a paragraph. In addition to bankruptcies in the real world, his career has been licensing his name for all sorts of things, primarily buildings, but also books. Other people take the risks and do the work.

Your opinion on the performance of predecessors is not a critique on Trump's Foreign policy credentials. He has demonstrated he does not know much, has no historical, geographical, or cultural perspective, and does not seem to have the temperament to learn. Hopefully he does have the smarts to surround himself with people who can backstop his deficiencies.

"Less informed" is the Hallmark of your comments. Equitable treatment of women is not gender-shit and age is not an excuse for not understanding bigotry. If you feel that playing back Trump's own words constitutes manipulation, then you do not understand campaign politics. It's not the pollsters who were telling lies, it was the voters to ashamed to actually admit they were voting for Trump who skeud the predictions and yes, the establishment, both Republican and Democratic were shocked. Its was Trump along who understood and harnessed the discontent of the disaffected middle.

" If nothing else I hope this sends a message to politicians around the globe that the people have had enough of their lies and deceit as I can only assume it was Trumps seemingly dumb honesty that got him elected." ??????

Trump was neither dumb or honest. He repeatedly lied through his teeth, but he was smart enough to know that it was sentiment more than truth that mattered most.

This is the one truth the Trump harnessed and rode to the White House.

I love the UK and their decision to leave the European Union and I'm pretty sure I will LOVE Donald Trump too ! And I hope he keep his promise, America first !!!!

The jury is still out on both. It's looking more and more like the British cut off their collective noses to spite their faces.

What a cool world, America is not anymore playing world police, no more war's are startet by the US, no more terrorist are created by the US, no more refugee streams are created by the US, no more bashing from US and Nato against Putin (WTF we care about the Krim or Ukraine ??)....

Dream on. You seem to be echoing Trumps utter lack of any knowledge of American foreign policy, currently or in an historical perspective.

So, in Trump I trust ! Just my 2 cents....

Might I suggest you give Trump a few days in office before passing judgement. Beyond that, I think you properly gagged the worth of your comments.

Very true. There will be blood in Democratic halls as well as backstage in the Republican theater.

Seriously this. That people are citing Trump's publishing career as his qualification just goes to show how much he as pulled the wool over their eyes. The person who wrote "Art of the Deal", not Donald Trump, but the real writer, Tony Schwartz, who spent 18 months following Trump everywhere, describes Trump as a sociopath with no attention span and regrets writing it.

http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2016/07/25/donald-trumps-ghostwriter-tells-all

But Schwartz believes that Trump’s short attention span has left him with “a stunning level of superficial knowledge and plain ignorance.” He said, “That’s why he so prefers TV as his first news source—information comes in easily digestible sound bites.” He added, “I seriously doubt that Trump has ever read a book straight through in his adult life.” During the eighteen months that he observed Trump, Schwartz said, he never saw a book on Trump’s desk, or elsewhere in his office, or in his apartment.

So, to those who are happy that Trump won, I ask you: just what do you think he will accomplish in the next two years? This question has been asked on other boards I read, and no one seems able to give a specific reply. It's all vague stuff like "clean up the mess in Washington." I, and others, are not looking for that. What I want to know is - if you are so big on change, name a few, specifically, that you expect to see.

CNN actually had a list of 5 things they characterize as most important to Trump voters:

1) Build a wall
2) Lock up Clinton
3) Repeal ACA
4) Ban Muslims from entering the US
5) Undo trade agreements

I would be interested to know if that list matches that of any pro-Trump poster here, or if it doesn't, what YOU expect to see happen over the next 2 years.

ETA - I'm saying 2 years because that's how long we have until the next round of elections. We know that at least until then Trump will be ruling with the support of a Republican congress, so he and his supporters can't hide behind "blocked by Congress" as an excuse for not implementing any of the things he wants to do.)
