Let's face it. Immigration problems around the world are totally out of control. Be they coming or leaving, nations need to take the upper hands.

I doubt there are but a few legitimate refugee seeking foreigners crossing boarders. The vast majority are seeking better financial status and now a days, benefits of being a refugee. Most of them, under proper vetting would not qualify for refugee status. Unfortunately, Western nations are deluged in these unqualified if they were actually investigated.

I guess I am from the old school and not progressive enough on this immigration matter. So many immigrants claim refuge from governments they don't like or are running from internal conflict. Too freaking bad. Stay where you are and make a stand to fight for what is right. Running away is the cowardly way.

Western nations have political conflicts and some are involved in wars. You don't see their citizens running away. If you don't like your government, do something to change it and don't go someplace else and argue they should change to accommodate you. They won't protest at home but are willing to in a foreign nation. That's BS.

All boarders need to be tightened drastically and only those approved through normal immigration policies allowed to cross. Refugee status need to be hardened to apply to only those that have a real need for such. They need to show they are in fact victims of persecutions. The financial improvement seekers need to be turned away. All policies that allow all in until hearings need to be hardened and that would include internment camps until hearings. Camps would have a population limit and when at capacity, boarders close until room is made. This in and of itself would hinder many from attempting boarder crossings.

Today it is totally out of control and drastic measures must be taken including rounding up those that have overstayed or entered illegally and send them back to where they came. Current immigration laws were not written for what has happened with immigration today. It will break national finances in some areas.

This has happened prior to Brexit. It is logical for the French government to allow them to cross the channel, reducing their own burden. Even In fact, the UK government pays the French border control about €70m annually in an agreement to stop them crossing the channel. Keep in mind these people have been living in few safe countries in Europe for years. Not to mention, the EU rules stipulate that all genuine refugees must claim asylum in the first safe country they reach.

It's essential to acknowledge that these individuals also paid smugglers to help them crossing the channel. They are trained to destroy their documents, making it challenging to trace their origins.

Furthermore, there's a notable aspect of politicians and charities benefiting from taxpayer funds. Some opportunistic politicians recognize that these individuals may eventually have voting rights in the future. Lawyers get paid from taxpayer's money for representing these people. The charities benefiting government funding for humanitarian help; All are funded by the taxpayers. The system is broken.

Country of almost 300 million people has no capacity to shelter few thousand legitimate refugees, of Muslim faith on the top of it? And they rally at the same here for "Liberate Palestine"? What if hypotheticaly Palestinians ask for asylum-they will be pushed back into the sea I suppose.

The present First Minister of Scotland may be seizing opportunities to secure additional funding for providing shelter. Keep in mind in the future these people could vote. for SNP This strategic move aims at potential future support for the SNP through the votes of those benefiting from such provisions. It is a sad state of affairs indeed. It would be interesting to explore why Indonesia seems to inhospitable towards these refugees. Maybe they fear that if they let in 'just a couple of thousand', hundreds of thousands of Rohingya will come and seek asylum here (there are currently 1.2 million displaced Rohingya).

You do realize that a 'liberated Palestine' will be the best way to prevent any asylum seeking Palestinians on your doorstep? So, in a way it makes sense.

Yeah - this happened in Dublin (Ireland) last night. A naturalized Algerian immigrant stabbed a group of kids and their teacher outside their school and anti-immigrant protestors rioted.
We have huge issues in Ireland with housing - there is not enough and each year we have more people arriving and no houses for them to live in. We also took in 75,000+ Ukrainians which has unfortunately made a tight housing market into a housing crisis.
Its fodder for the far right wingers - and they are gathering a lot of support in poorer parts of Irish society as a result. Failed by the centre ground politicians.
