No More Inefficient or Intolerant Indonesia - Jokowi's New Vision

They also shrunk the can size from 330ml to 250ml and kept the price the same. At the same time they withdrew a bunch of other products including the soda water.
That’s something I’m really missing, the big bottles of soda water (as Spa, Vichy, Evian). We use a lot so to buy San Pellegrino here is really expensive overkill. Currently we buy the 330ml cans from Polaris and 250ml bottles from Fanta. The quality of these sparkling waters is comparable. Prices are not bad (5.000+ for 330ml).

Indonesia is the only country ive seen where there is no diet coke option in Mcdonalds.
It really sucked when Carls Jr. here removed their Coke Zero from the dispensing machines.

Also, there are practically no milkshakes in the fast food joints. Those from A&W are not bad.

Its shocking how hard it is to find the diet versions of drinks in Indonesia. I travel a lot and dont make a habit of visiting mcdonalds in every country but over the years i have been to many and Indonesia is the only country ive seen where there is no diet coke option in Mcdonalds.

Seems like we have got off topic a bit. Sorry.
Sugar is a major commodity here. You are correct, low sugar or diet drinks are almost nonexistent. Even the reduced sugar and low sugar products have little removed from their original versions.

Maybe they look at it as sugar is cheap and sugar substitutes are more costly.

Our 1 and only A&W offers sundaes but no cones. Ice cream can not get hard enough to form. Has been that way for over 2 years. They do not offer milkshakes. Most that do add water, ice, and milk to them. No ice cream. They are not milk shakes as I know them.

Try to find thick natural yoghurt without sugar…
Try to find a lot of things without added sugar or salt. Can't find a cheese sauce power or premade without sugar. Taco chips are sweet. Doritos were best but went with Pepsi. My wife likes yoghurt but will only buy the greek type.

I got so frustrated with the yogurt here I started to make my own a few years ago. Its surprisingly easy. But I am too lazy (or busy) now and just put up with the no-sugar greenfields plain yogurt (NOT THE ORIGINAL - its full of sugar - yuck).

Sugar substitutes in soft drinks are also a serious health issue. If you enter the name or code for a substitute it seems laboratory tests indicate that many are cancer causing. A problem is that ingredient details when shown on packages or bottles are so tiny almost impossible to read. Best solution is to avoid manufactured drinks and foods as much as possible.

Incidentally a coroner in Australia listed a suicide by Coke with the death of a woman who drank almost nothing but Coca Cola. The levels of diabetes and other health issues with remote Aboriginal communities in Australia and incredibly high. Traditional food sources no longer available so community super markets are stocked with soft drink and food products loaded with sugar and salt. Another hazard is the popularity of the Kentucky style fried chicken.

Ah ya, for the Greek style it’s similar as for the cheese in the palak paneer. Using a cloth as a tea towel or so. Easy, but it takes work and I never get the ultra smooth texture of the Armagh, Duneen or even Tesco yogurts.

Many of those laboratory test are based in feeding a rat an amount equal to a human ingesting a truck load. As for health risk, sugar is a health risk and it seems Indonesia has a big problem with diabetes. As for fried chicken, there are plenty of fried foods here starting with drowning spices to start a dish preparation. When people riot and a government panics when there isn't enough cooking oil you know there is a problem.

If you suffer from diabetes .. you are really f*cked in this country.

Btw I am not diabetic, but I want to stay away from sugar as much as possible (as I am a gym/health fanatic). And maybe I should post this in the thread 'wonders and curiosities' the sugar in everything is amazing here. Indonesians put sugar in everything and they love it. It's e.g. hard to find normal loaf of bread (like in Holland) ... without sugar.

Something that goes viral as we speak: You've probably seen the article on Tous Les Jours, the South Korean bakery franchise.

...

So Merry Christmas and Imlek wishes would not be processed by the store.
Since this thread is still alive ... one thing that has not been brought up, I think, is this:

Imlek is not a religious event at all! It's the equivalent of, say, Nowruz, which is celebrated in Iran and Central Asian countries with Persian cultural roots, all of them majority Muslim. It's just the New Year according to a different calendar, sheesh.

No one said it was?

But no one mentioned that or bought it up except you?
