Not sure where to post this, but decided on General Chat rather than Health and Medical.
So my father in law, Kasiman bin Kasiyan, passed away yesterday / earlier today (depending where you are), in Balikpapan. We do not know conclusively the cause of death: he was old and had been in poor health for several years - had survived multiple heart attacks since 2013. But my wife said that he had been having flu-like symptoms recently and I think it very likely that he will be yet another unreported Covid casualty for Indonesia. He was also suffering from dementia and no longer recognized even his closest family members. Over the ten years I knew him, I could see his gradual decline from a kind man who nevertheless was oriented to military discipline, and used to giving respect to superiors and commanding it from subordinates, to a frail old man telling stories to himself.
I feel sad for myself, my wife and his wife, children and grandchildren etc. but also relieved and happy that it worked out for my wife to be there when it happened. He was a good man, always kind and generous to people and to animals. He was an officer in the army and reportedly served in Sukarno's personal guard detail. He was a well respected man in his mosque and community. He will be missed. Feel free to post "berduka cita"s below if you wish.
