Mobil Rakyat...new cars

Nissan is introducing a new SUV in China, it is called the Terra (so without an X).

It should be a more pure off-roader than the XTrail since it is based on the Navara pickup truck. (So a bit like the previous Pathfinder.)

Rumors are the car will also be introduced in India and Indonesia but according to the Indonesian Nissan branch, they are still studying the pros & cons.

When I was in North Sulawesi recently, I took an Uber in Manado and it was a Wuling, the Chinese brand.

The driver was also employee of that company and could answer all questions. (Smart!)

Chinese cars still get a giggle from the car aficionados but in fact I was pleasantly surprised. The finishing of the Cortez was flawless and the interior rather luxurious. Engines are insourced (e.g. GM.)

They advertise a lot on local TV stations as TransTv and their unofficial slogan is: an Innova for the price of an Avanza. And they have a point; there are currently two model and they operate in those two segments (a Brio sized will come later) against much lower prices. Only the bigger one is available in automatic.

So definitely recommended if you're in the market for a Xenia or so, or even Mobilio/Ertiga/...

Absolutely fugly though, especially that confero.

Talking about fugly, Mitsubishi has introduced a newcomer in the Avanza segment.

It is called the Xpander. And quite a success, the production went from 4.500 to 7.000 per month and the plan is to produce 10.000. Also the other South East Asian markets and India are targeted.

Toyota and Daihatsu have introduced a new Rush and the sibling Terios.

This is rather weird; it used to be the butch SUV version of the Avanza/Xenia. The previous version:

But the new version has become more of a (smaller) Innova clone! So instead of a jeep it looks more like a crossover with a somewhat coupé line (declining roof at the back).

I'm not sure if this was a smart thing to do, the previous model had quite a large groupe of (mainly male) admirers.

My dad is a die hard Wuling fan (already waiting for his Cortez to be delivered soon). I like both the Xpander and the new Rush...but the new Bao Jun 510 looks pretty nice, although I could live without the gigantic logo.

Not much of a detailed auto reviewer but I'll try my best letting you know at least stuff that's obvious to me like interior noise level...etc. Dad loved the sunroof the first time he saw the car (I personally don't like sunroof in jkt...)

@jstar why are those wuling Cortez and Conferos using such small wheels?! It's so ugly! It could look passable with larger wheels and wheel well.

Also, the new rush/terios reminds me more of a mini new fortuner.

@Banana72 that Bao Jun 510 looks pretty cool! If it's popular, I'm sure there will be plenty of aftermarket grills to ditch that huge-ass logo.

Yeah, the weird thing is that standard the Cortez has respectable 16” wheels but the Confero only 15 inch.

Yeah...my dad told me to get the 530 but with the size similar to Fortuner...parking will be a pain, I like the 510 more compact size. Saw it somewhere online that it MIGHT enter Indonesia in September 2018...

DFSK Glory 580 isn't too bad either too bad i think it's only available in stick shift.

As Wuling, that Baojun is a brand under the joint venture between Shanghai Automotive Industry Company (SAIC), General Motors (GM), and Wuling Motors. GM has a 44% stake in this joint venture.

I’m not completely sure but I think Wuling has taken over the former GM plant in Bekasi. Makes perfect sense of course.

Btw @Banana72, the Cortez is also only available in a manual version!

Compare the area behind the C-pillar:

Well, make that A-pillar.
.

No manuals please! Not in Jakarta traffic!!

Don't worry Banana72...all vehicle manuals are now written on-line and the RI Gov't has just banned using cellphones whilst driving...so no access to the manual!...

A car which definitely will be introduced, is the Baojun 310, although it probably will get a Wuling name and batch.

It’s a smaller car with a 1.2-1.5 liter engine in the class of a Honda Brio or Daihatsu Agya/Toyota Ayla. A price setting of 84 million rupiah makes it a very competitive city car.

Introduction on August 12.

Remember the time when you got your driver’s license in your home country you had to do a manœuvre which was driving away from a standstill, which was uphill?

Now, with a stick shift there are two methods; or keep the brake pedal down with your right foot while slowly releasing the clutch or playing with revving the accelerator and releasing clutch simultaneously while unlocking the manual parking break.

Many times I’ve been in a near accident or unwanted engine shutdown here since the driver did not really grasp the concept. So that always made me complain to my companion(s) and have me make the remark in fact all taxis etc. should be automatic cars over here.

But fear no more...the new Toyota Yaris has standard the Hill Start Assist! For a car in this class rather unique. An example deserving to be followed.

Right, I just scrolled through 13 pages and saw no mention of the Mitsubishi Outlander..We're considering it as an alternative to an HRV. Its not quite as pretty but not too bad. We have been really happy with our Jazz RS for 8 years now. Price is a bit cheaper with a bigger engine. Its also a bit higher off the ground. We sometimes find our selves on some shitty backroads.
Any opinions or info?

New suzuki ertiga. Looks like toyota designers have moved to suzuki. Looks a lot like a calya/innova mash up
