Mobil Rakyat...new cars

The Nissan X-Trail gets a facelift. To be expected after October.

This is the current pre-facelift version:

And this will be the post-facelift:

However, the non-foldable 3rd row is a deal breaker. Huge car, unusable boot.

The H1 is really an 'expatcar', excusez le mot. Very popular in those circles,

This is a kinda back handed comment. Expats are not allowed to buy what they want. They have to pander to the weird social mores of others?

There is a hybrid version, which is for sale for 1,4 milyar. As they say in Flemish; miljaardedju,

The Allphard Hybrid is a dog. Followed one for miles a couple of years ago. 130-135kph + on level ground but ground to a halt going uphill on a large bridge, as it has quite a large amount of battery weight to haul around. I sailed past in my 1.6l truck.

@vocalneal My point, exactly, look how they fold! You don't get an uninterrupted flat floor to haul larger items.

At least on the Alphard, the seats fold sideways.

Ideally, I wish they would just have seats that fold into the floor, like on smallers cars like the VW Touran or the KIA Sedona I mentioned earlier.

@vocalneal ; I don't disagree with you, but an observation is different from a judgment, right? This is just the way this society operates.

Some info about sales etc.

I remember the H-1 had a sales of 70 per month and the wet dream was to make that 100. And they had to export from the Bekasi plant to Thailand to make their numbers. While Alphard sales were going through the roof with 2.500 sold over 9 months.

The Aphard and Sienna are somewhat comparable yes, but don't forget that a top of the line of the latter in the US, will set you back almost a $50K.

Some family in Jakarta traded their Alphard for a Mercedes van. I think I liked the Alphard better. The mercedes didn't seem any better to me anyhow. But I am not very knowledgeable about vehicles.

Merc has, as many others, a people carrier version (V-class) and light freight version (Vito). But they are basically the same cars. Sturdy though.

Not for nothing they are called Mercedes Bland or Portuguese taxis. They are vastly overrated. I sometimes feel sorry for the Mercedes cult. People who feel obliged to buy one because society says they should, for appearance sake.

You could customize a Sprinter van as well..

Talking about customization; if I would go for a H-1 or so, and would plan to keep the car for >5 years, I would definitely do some major upgrades and improvements. The plastic-ey interior and overall quality impression makes sore eyes.

In BC. One can tell the Albertans . Walk out. Start the engine. Slam the door to get the snow off the drivers window. Turn on the wipers and drive away!

The Serena is a car I like for purely practical reasons. It's spacious, great visibility, gets the job done. Ugly tho. But certainly on the list of cars I would consider buying.

If you're looking a good bigger sized second hand MPV which is not too expensive, consider the Toyota NAV1. It is positioned right between the Sienta and Alphard, so comparable to a Biante c.s.

It has not been a big success here, so it is discontinued. (Which should do wonders for its resale value.)

The rumor is that the Japanese Voxy will be its successor...

I was looking at vans yesterday whilst in a taxi. If my interpretation of what i was seeing is correct then the sliding door is quite clever as there is no trough in the bodywork as there is with say Honda Freed. Even my old VW Vanagon had an external door "trough"

Yes there is but they hide that track/trough/whatever under the rear window. Bit like the Ford Windstar at the time. The strip being black you hardly notice it. Just like the back door handles in an Alfa Romeo or Honda HR-V.

Not a big fan of the Nav1's looks. I like the Voxy better from a style perspective. Wonder what the interior is like.

I'll check out the Nav1 again.

Are there many Nissan Cubes in Jakarta?
No, it does not exist here. And in Europe that car failed miserably, that will teach them to try to be innovative. It's a pity. The closest you could get here are the local Lego's on wheels; the Nissan Evalia or Daihatsu Luxio. Or a Daihatsu Granmax if you want to exploit an Angkot.

This was shown on a previous IIMS btw:

And it's a shame the Copen is so amazingly expensive here. That little car is cool.

With some minor cosmetic surgery you could make an Esquire version...and you thought the Alphard grill was somewhat overwhelming?
