Mobil Rakyat...new cars

So someone just brought a Koenigsegg CCX into Indonesia, don't want to know how much he's paying for the yearly samsat but I wouldn't be surprised if that's equal to getting a brand-new BMW a year...

In fact the production of the CCX officially stopped some time ago; so I wonder if the car is really new. For €500K (well, probably 10 milyar IDR or so) I would go shopping in Pacific Place and get me a McLaren 675. With the remaining €130K a Landcruiser or so.

Talking about supercars:

If you're filthy rich but still eco-conscious, there's good news for you; the full electric BMW i8 Red Edition is officially available for the Indonesian market...

Oh it could very well be that the car was already owned abroad and only recently brought into Indonesia.

On the McLaren, yes, that's what us "normal" folks would probably do given an equivalent amount of money. The difference is that the guy who owns this car could get that Koenigsegg imported to Indonesia and still go down to PP and get himself that McLaren no sweat, he'll be wearing a watch the value of a pretty decent house while doing it.

But, why would he ? There are already a couple of dozen McLaren owners in Indonesia, they recently even started their own Owners club. There's only one Koenigsegg, and the guy will be a legend for it, and thats what it's all about...

"If everyone can get one, I don't want it"

I'd look good in one of those BMWs, but I think it'll just be an HRV for us :D

I saw one of these on the road over a year ago, on Jl antasari. I don't wanna know how much he must have paid to import this.

Of course Honda introduces a 5[SUP]th[/SUP] generation of its aging CR-V.

Still not the most beautiful girl in the class but it definitely will sell. With a 1.5 liter engine.

It's good to see Honda is consistent and stays faithful to it's design philosophy of butt-ugly cars for developing and 3rd world countries' markets (cf. Mobilio and BR-V).

Their newest creation, originally for South America, is the WR-V. Just like the HR-V it is based on the Jazz, but somewhat smaller. And not so good looking so it must be cheaper.

Honda Indonesia did not confirm its arrival yet but since India will get one it is only a matter of time. And the Ford Ecosport does not exist anymore so there are not so many competitors in this niche.

We just bought a 2017 CRV in the US. In short supply for a lot of the midrange models (EX trim). I had to wait almost 3 weeks to get the colors I wanted. Here the base model LX still has the larger engine, and no Honda Sensing safety features. The 1.5 engine is a turbo that gets considerably better mileage than the base model.

what was on your shortlist, CX-5? Rogue? The fifth generation CR-V does offer more space in cargo and for backseat passengers. I'm not crazy about the front but the backside is rather nice.

The only thing you will have to get used to a bit -if you're used to driving a full automatic- is the CVT. If you press the accelerator in fast and deep, there will be some kind of 'howling'. That is inherent of the system, of course there is no kick down in a continuously variomatic. And the new turbo engine compensates a lot.

Yes, in the US you get much more bang for the buck.
I was originally looking at a Honda Accord or Toyota Camry. I was looking for reasonable interior space, safety and gas mileage. I liked the CRV and such, but the mileage was rather unspectacular. Gas is cheap now, but I'm sure it will double in the future.

Luckily the 2017 CRV was introduced, and the EX and above versions have the 1.5 engine which gets much better mileage. I like the higher ride in the CRV, and it's easier for me to get in and out of it.

I've only put 30 miles on it so far, but will be doing a 700-800 mile road trip next week. It should be interesting to see what kind of mileage it averages.

I think a SUV makes a lot of sense, both for elderly or people with physical issues, and small children. I had some back pain lately and it was hell to crawl in and out of the Camry. Also child seats and so can be much better managed not having to bend over so much. There is more and better accesible inside storage space as well.

From a safety perspective, it also offers some advantages of course. You can see further ahead and when being hit by a car, it offers better protection.

Of course if you are a very sporty driver and want an ultimate driving experience, a sedan or coupé will always offer a better drive. The car behaves less boat-like and the seats are not like kitchen, but lounge chairs.

In fact a break/stationcar, esp. in 4WD which has some more ground clearance, can offer a great 'best of both worlds' experience. But those are (outside of Europe) rather untrendy.

The Honda Mobilio has been improved. Quite some changes have been made to the interior.

It was time for a facelift, that included a -rather standard- aproach which changed the front, grille, the back lights and the wheels.

Let's talk about improvements instead. Important ones are; a better AC, thicker second row seats, easier access to the third row and a bigger screen in the dashboard.

Very fitting with the previous post is the new Mercedes design language.

They show the concept car of a new A class sedan or the CLA successsor.

And their slogan is: The time of folds, lines and pleats has ended.

I like it.

Saw that Koenigsegg CCX yesterday at the Ferrari festival. The car did not participate, it was just parked along with other visitors' superiors... With a crowd around it taking pictures.

While a completely new Volkswagen Polo was spotted in Brazil.....

Of course there is a reason why you practically don't see any non premium European cars here. On a small model like this, you pay already 30 juta more than its Japanese counterpart. Which is very often even a better car.

Also, it seems the European car manufacturers all (Peugeot, Citroën/DS, VW, Renault, Volvo, Fiat Chrysler, ...) still focus on the Americas and China. In India they collaborate with local or Japanese manufacturers, Indonesia is almost ignored.

Mazda....If only they would bring the new CX-9! The previous model was terribly expensive due to its 3.7L engine and associated tax. The new model, on top of looking drop dead gorgeous, has a 2.5L engine and is the only one turbocharged of their current line up. Wonder if it's a preview of what their Mazda 3 mazdaspeed would sport.

Spesifikasi-dan-Harga-Mazda-CX-9.jpg

The word is that the CX-9 will cost over a billion here. Not strange if you already have to cough up 850-900 for luxury Toyota's. (Not to mention the Landcruiser or Lexus.).

Mazda has introduced a new crossover for the Japanese market called the CX-8. The three-row CUV will be smaller than the CX-9 that we talked about here to "better fit Japanese roads".

Although Mazda says the CX-8 was designed specifically to suit the Japanese market and is for customers who need more than five seats, you could argue that more than half of Asia would also qualify then.

The CX-8 will be the flagship of its crossover lineup in Japan, as the CX-9 isn’t sold there. The CX-8 measures roughly 5 meter long.. The CX-8 would be about as wide as the new CX-5 with a wheelbase that’s identical to the CX-9’s. The CX-8 is 15 cm. shorter in length than the CX-9 and 12 cm. narrower. The CX-8 will offer seating for six or seven passengers, depending on the configuration.

“It has the looks, performance, and high-end feel customers expect from a Mazda, and even adults can sit comfortably in the third row,” said Mazda president and CEO Masamichi Kogai, in a release. “Mazda aims to create a strong emotional connection with customers, and we will achieve this by continually advancing our lineup to offer all customers our unique combination of driving pleasure and outstanding environmental and safety performance.”

The CX-8 will be powered by Mazda’s 2.2-liter Skyactiv-D turbodiesel engine, which will be mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Mazda is expected to work more with Diesel engines. Which, esp. with Toyota and Honda and Nissan focusing on electric and hydrogen, is somewhat 'strange'. Perhaps for the European market? Then it could compete with the Volvo XC90 c.s. The CX-9 is already available in the US so there it makes no sense to introduce this version.

Harks back to the old Citroen 2CV?

Harga-Suzuki-Karimun-Wagon-R.jpg

For many years the best selling Kei car in japan. More than 5 million made.

Kei cars never caught on in the rest of the world, even if they (Honda and Scion and Nissan) tried. Even when it often makes a lot of sense (lack of space), you simply don't see them. In IIMS they showed some last year to 'feel the market'. I think everybody loved them and the amount of selfies were enormous, but I don't see them being sold in RI.

Cities like Rome etc. will always have the Smart and Fiat 500, but Kei? In Indonesia that miniature role is more for the Brio, Aygo etc.

What is a huge worldwide trend, is the miniaturization of the crossovers, the mix between small SUVs and MPVs. (So 'people movers with an off-road sauce'.) People want to sit higher (the demand originates from a combination between aging and space and safety demands) and that also allows for much smaller cars. (Yes, the seating position becomes like a kitchen chair.) Also, the engines obviously get more powerful so even two and three cilinder engines will do the job.

If you would ask Citroën, they would say that the C3 or Cactus should be considered as 2CV successors. But I'm not sure.

@jstar That would be so cool if they released this car in Indonesia!

CX-9 and CX-8 would both be great. But also a CX-4 would be kinda cool; it is a more coupé-like sportier version of the popular CX-5. I can only imagine the price though.
