Mobil Rakyat...new cars

How is it even possible to mention boring in the same story as mall, pictures and a giant wedding cake?:)

Because it didn't include boating and drinking (not at the same time)....which are MY passions.

I wasn't impressed when I saw it at Gaikindo auto show last year. I then saw the CX-3 in action Japan recently, it's everywhere on the road there. It's a damn fine car, looks great.

Recent Mazdas are winning awards left and right. They are great value and you get features you don't usually get at that price point. They drive great compared to their competitors and they look good.

If only they would bring the new CX-9! The previous model was terribly expensive due to its 3.7L engine and associated tax. The new model, on top of looking drop dead gorgeous, has a 2.5L engine and is the only one turbocharged of their current line up. Wonder if it's a preview of what their Mazda 3 mazdaspeed would sport.

The word is that the CX-9 will cost over a billion here. Not strange if you already have to cough up 850-900 for luxury Toyota's. (Not to mention the Landcruiser or Lexus.)

Spending a couple of weeks in Jakarta can be boring for me but it's my wife's birthday next week and she insists to spend with the family and have a party.

So, I was sauntering around Pacific Place taking pictures of the giant 7 meters tall wedding cake in the lobby...it's amazingly genuine sugar and icing. Then I also spotted the Lamborghini showroom.

Pacific Place? McLaren.

There is a Lamborghini shop, but it is apparel, the Tonino Lamborghini.

The two happiest day in your life; when you buy a boat, and when you sell it.

That is why we were not going to live in Jakarta area, if we had stayed. It gets boring going to the mall, or home, and these seem like the main options.

1. The Lamborghini showroom is on the ground floor around from the central lobby...two Lamborghinis on show....or maybe Ferraris...or McLaren....I wouldn't know the difference.

2. You got that right...then again, there's the 4 footitus complex. My friends from Florida are in process of selling their 66 foot Alaskan, which I helped launch on arrival from Taiwan when new, and they've put a bid on an 85 foot Horizon. I'm looking forward to checking the new purchase with my best, best friends forever. BBFF's....:thumb:

I doubt I would ever consider purchasing a boat; on the other hand its really great to have friends who do own boats, some of them quite large -- the boats, not the friends.

We've owned 4 motor yachts, the largest 50 feet, in the last 20+ years. Cruised the Pacific North West between Olympia, San Juan and Gulf Islands, up to Desolation Sound in B.C. and have made a lot of boating friends.

We hosted many boaters who visited from the East Coast to our neck of the woods...and they have reciprocated when we visited them and cruised the Intercoastal from Ft. Lauderdale all the way to Boston, and many places in-between.

Now, because I lost all boating, flying and driving licences due to age...except to ride a bike....my friends take pity and offer us boating trips when visiting N. America. It might also be because I have a beautiful young Indonesian ex-Flight Attendant wife who can still mix a first-class martini!!!
So I agree with you...I'm ever so grateful I can still experience my boating passion by having friends who own boats.

As soon as we meet someone who owns a large yacht they become our instant best friends...the level of which is conditioned by the size of their yacht ....currently we await the intended purchase of an 85 footer so we can switch loyalties...:thumb:

I don't have any big boat stories (possibly a big friend or two). But I may be able to come up with a kayak, canoe or bamboo raft. They can be quite excellent in enjoying nature and I have heard they are less maintenance then larger boats.

hehehe....it is difficult to kayak 200 miles to reach a desolate spot where nature thrives in its own wilderness...but a large yacht can carry many kayaks so it gets closer.

QED.....to enjoy nature a large yacht beats a kayak ...:fish2:...also..it is very difficult to mix martinis on a kayak or canoe...I've tried and failed.

Yes but bamboo rafts........... I have taken one at Garut to an Island and it was quite stable. There was someone pushing the raft with a pole. I can only imagine the possibilities with a small outboard engine.

At the end of this month, the yearly car expo will be organized at Kemayoran.

https://indonesianmotorshow.com/

Most (well, mainstream at least) brands will be represented.

It's always an interesting expo so try to visit if you're in the market for a new car, want to get an impression of what's currently available in RI, or if you're just a car aficionado.

This car will also be presented on the Expo.

According to the international press a fascinating vehicle, according to Toyota, "a crossover that flows through life", according to me -for what it's worth- a nice attempt to compete with the Nissan Juke and Honda HR-V.

The Toyota RAV4 is a rather good SUV but more in the segment of the X-Trail and CR-V. Toyota does not really offer a playful smaller SUV of a good built quality. Yet.

So here it is, the CH-R. Ah no, C-HR. (Who comes up with these names?)

"Playful"??? I suppose for the person who regrets to find that with marriage comes a 4-door.

Frisky then? Jolly?

Some designs are rather spermicidal yes. Luckily the kids are already there.

Looks not too bad compared to Toyota's other offerings.

Their designer Hiroyuki Koba went to Europe in 2010 to study the demands, trends and driving styles. (On the latter; Europeans will not brake and slow down so hastily but avoid an object by circumventing it at the same speed.) That resulted in this car. For me it is a bit Lexus design wise. But it's true, the driving characterics seem to be very direct. (So does that mean Toyota follows -like Honda- the BMW/Alfa Romeo approach?)

We recently ordered a 2017 Honda CR-V. For our US road cruising. Seems a lot cheaper than Indonesian models, and many more features. I don't think it will fit in my checked luggage.

what was on your shortlist, CX-5? Rogue? The fifth generation CR-V does offer more space in cargo and for backseat passengers. I'm not crazy about the front but the backside is rather nice.

The only thing you will have to get used to a bit -if you're used to driving a full automatic- is the CVT. If you press the accelerator in fast and deep, there will be some kind of 'howling'. That is inherent of the system, of course there is no kick down in a continuously variomatic. And the new turbo engine compensates a lot.

Yes, in the US you get much more bang for the buck.

Yes prices are a lot less in the US. I can't imagine someone paying 600 million rp for a Honda Accord. They would laugh at you and think your crazy.

^
Ya, an American Accord starts at almost half the price of the car here. $24-30K vs $48K. But it is a rather luxureous model in RI, I think similar to the EX-L and more based on the Japanese version (full leather, 5AT instead of CVT or 6AT, active noise cancellation).

The hybrid would really would cost you an arm and a leg. The hybrid Camry is available here.

.
Talking about steep prices, the brand spanking new Mazda CX-3 is setting new records in this class.

There are two models, they are priced 402 and 462 million rupiah. if you compare the options and so of this 2 liter model with the HR-V, you would have to select the Prestige model (which is top of the line, the 1.8 liter model with LED lights etc.).

But the Honda will cost 360 million 'only'!
