With a new Toyota Fortuner and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Isuzu didn't want to stay behind. So the MU-X.....
....eh, I hear you think; "wtf? mux?". And I can't blame you. You never see this car on the road in RI.
Which is a bit of a shame, since it is able to compete in all specs that the competition offers: Diesel 2,5 liter, three rows, leather interior. And pretty good looks (if you like bigger SUV's). It's a shame the current Indonesian version does not offer 4WD but that becomes rather rare on all city SUV's.
The problem is a bit that ISUZU has quite a good name in (pick-up) trucks etc. but not really in passenger cars. And the Panther is also not really an example of modern technology, it is their G-Class or Defender if you will. Anyway, there is a new version of the MU-X:

I have seriously consider asking you to make a tread like this one... glad you make one.
I like the front of the MUX... but the rear remember me too much of old GM/Chevrolet model, way too much round to be a good fit with the front design

Talking about Suzuki, they will introduce three 'new' models in the Indonesian market:
- Vitara Brezza (a smaller and more trendy version of the Vitara), December. Especially popular in India, with a huge amount of personalization possibilities (esp. on colors). They stole that from the Mini and (Citroên) DS.
- Jimny (Suzuki's own version of the G-class or Defender. In 'old skool' styling that is, it is much more mini), December. This car exists since 1970 and did not really change that much over two generations. Now you know where the front of the Jeep Renagade is based on.
- Suzuki Ignis (as small city SUV), November. After 9 years the model returns. It got a very enthusiastic reception on European car shows. It's a shame the Indonesia market will never see the 4WD version which will even have Hill Descent Control.

Toyota has registered the name for a new version of the Innova: The Venturer.
It seems there are four models registered, also a 4WD. (Interesting!) It seems the Venturer will be positioned as top variant (a bit as the Veloz with the Avanza).
In countries as Thailand, there are special versions too so it probably will be comparable to a Crysta or so. (Although with a name like that, it should be more of an allroader, right?).
Not sure if the cars will appear this year, probably early 2017. I understand it's just marketing lingo but it is rather strange they still use the Kijang nomenclature for the new Innova.
The price of the new model is much higher than the previous version but it must be said it looks much better and the interior quality has been upgraded as well. You see them more and more on the streets so after a slow start the sales goes rather well.

Mazda is renewing its gamut at a rapid pace. Nothing special since that brand has a reputation for changing its models rather fast.
I remember the new 6 was already facelifted 6 months after its introduction. Great car, can easily compete with the likes of Camry and Accord, but something like that would really p!ss me off as potential customer.
Anyway, the 6 has been renewed again.
More important news is the introduction of the CX-3. This Honda HR-V and Nissan Juke competitor has great potential. It has quite a big engine (that is Mazda's philosophy) but the price is quite reasonable. So if you're in the market for a smaller SUV, this is definitely something to look at.

The CX-5 has been Mazda's topseller for quite some time. No surprise, it is the reference in its class. (The X-Trail / Quashqai and CR-V have difficulties to compete, the Volvo XC-60 is doing better in certain continents.)
The CX-5 is completely renewed. But it is hardly visible, at first look it seems like a minor facelift. But it definitely is a completely new car. Available any moment.

Still not the most beautiful girl in the class but it definitely will sell. With a 1.5 liter engine.
It's good to see Honda is consistent and stays faithful to it's design philosophy of butt-ugly cars for developing and 3rd world countries' markets (cf. Mobilio and BR-V).
Their newest creation, originally for South America, is the WR-V. Just like the HR-V it is based on the Jazz, but somewhat smaller. And not so good looking so it must be cheaper.
Honda Indonesia did not confirm its arrival yet but since India will get one it is only a matter of time. And the Ford Ecosport does not exist anymore so there are not so many competitors in this niche.

I tend to view with disdain those who place style above, attributes such as efficiency, durability, performance, comfort, safety and ultimately, resale value. That is not to say that there are no truly ugly cars, but the sheet metal differences among those above are slight.

Most of the characteristics you describe will not mix and match btw, they are mutually exclusive; otherwise everybody would drive the same car. Warranty and workshop proximity are other "let's kick in an open door" criteria btw. The car esthetics have always been an important selection criterium for many people and I think there is nothing wrong with that.

My Viper, any Viper, is not a car, it's a phallic symbol, an ego extension. Buying a Mazda SUV because one views its "style" as outclassing other brands in the class is delusional. Of course choosing the attributes one values involves trade-offs, but in the great people-and-stuff-hauler middle ground between truly ugly and exotic single-purpose, style differentiates hardly at all.

The Nissan X-Trail was presented in the US with a new front. There it is called Rogue. The weird thing is, that three months later that version is still not introduced in the other continents. It has the new house style of Nissan, with the larger so-called V-Motion grille. There are also LED lights, quite a novelty in this class. Obviously if you deem resale value important, it would be better to wait with purchasing if you're in the market for this car.
The engines used here are much bigger than the 1.5 liter used in Europe combined with a CVT. Which could be a response on the CX-5 from Mazda or just a adoption of the US version. There is -as in the US- a hybrid version of the X-Trail in Indonesia btw, the electric engine works on the other side which makes it in fact an AWD. But the price is very steep (650J) so you really don't see that version.

I don't have that kind of money --- for the initial purchase price or the cost of a maintenance truck to follow it around.

I wasn't impressed when I saw it at Gaikindo auto show last year. I then saw the CX-3 in action Japan recently, it's everywhere on the road there. It's a damn fine car, looks great.
Recent Mazdas are winning awards left and right. They are great value and you get features you don't usually get at that price point. They drive great compared to their competitors and they look good.
If only they would bring the new CX-9! The previous model was terribly expensive due to its 3.7L engine and associated tax. The new model, on top of looking drop dead gorgeous, has a 2.5L engine and is the only one turbocharged of their current line up. Wonder if it's a preview of what their Mazda 3 mazdaspeed would sport.

Agreed; Mazda makes good cars, meaning efficient, safe, durable and comfortable. They look good enough so as not to detract from resale value, as well.

Spending a couple of weeks in Jakarta can be boring for me but it's my wife's birthday next week and she insists to spend with the family and have a party.
So, I was sauntering around Pacific Place taking pictures of the giant 7 meters tall wedding cake in the lobby...it's amazingly genuine sugar and icing. Then I also spotted the Lamborghini showroom.
Thinking I was nattily dressed, btw I'm not gay, I swaggered up to this odd-looking machine to be immediately rushed by eager salesmen and lovely salesladies. Attempting to look as if I had a million bucks in my back pocket I asked to look under the front hood at the engine..."It's in the back bapak" was the educated response...I almost mumbled "I knew that but I'm testing you!' but declined such obvious bullshit...the sales people were already sniggering at my sox and sandals.
They opened the door for me to get inside...now I'm not a tall fellow but in six weeks will be an octogenarian and...it was fvkin' impossible for my bones to bend enough to enter. "I guess you don't get too many elderly buyers for this car?' I objectively noted...trying to be relevant. "OH! yes bapak...we get many rich people buy this car...but they keep it in the driveway." was the satirical response.
"Does it come as a four-seater?" was my next question. "Oh! No! bapak...it's a sports car and only has two seats." "Oh! that's no good for me..I have a driver and a maid when we go to the market....this car will not do for me." and sheepishly left the showroom.
I looked over my shoulder and felt sad for the forlorn look on the sales people as they thought they saw their commission go out the door with my departure.
