KITAS to KITAP? extensions required for ex WNI

Work and marriage 2 different ways
Work same sponsor 5 yrs
Marry 2 years
I see @luckyluke is ex-WNI, but for the benefit of others reading, those on a working KITAS can get KITAP after 3 years. This law can be found in UU No. 6 Tahun 2011, Pasal 60. After 3 years means you will need to start the 4th KITAS, but as soon as the 4th KITAS is issued you are eligible to apply for KITAP.

But you don't get the 4th kitas the day after the 3rd one. You can just start the process the next day. It's not valid until the 3rd one expires

Get your first KITAS tomorrow on November 23, 2023. Your second on November 23, 2024. Your third on November 23, 2025. Your fourth one on November 23, 2026. You can file for your KITAP on November 24, 2026.

3 years and 1 day.

And it starts from when?
My point is regardless of when you process it etc it is still not valid until the end of the 4th year
Sure you can apply etc but it won't start until the 3rd / 4th one has finished
Right?

The new diaspora visa is aimed at people like you I think. I don't think you are allowed to work, but you are allowed (i.e. required) to invest $35,000

You are allowed to work with newly issued Indonesian diaspora Visa

https://evisa.imigrasi.go.id/front/faq/f9d368d8-4005-4dd1-ae7a-6fb02570251a
  • Diaspora Visa can be granted for a duration of five or ten years
  • enabling the diaspora to view their homeland as a place where they can work.
Cost : IDR 12,000,000
Statement of commitment that must be accomplished within 90 (ninety) days from the date of arrival, such as:
  • Purchase of Indonesian government bonds worth US$35.000 (thirty five thousand US Dollars), or
  • Purchase of shares or mutual funds in publicly listed companies in Indonesia worth US$35.000 (thirty five thousand US Dollars
They are copying Indian model, for their diaspora.

I mean it's not clear if you are allowed to work like an Indonesian without a work permit or in a restricted profession (eg doctor).
If you still need a work permit then I don't really see the benefit, because you can get a Kitas from your company anyway.

It is not clear yet. But from the pers conference they are trying to copy the concept of "Overseas Citizen of India (OCI)"

"Several countries, including India, Ireland, and Portugal, have implemented similar policies for their diaspora. Karim emphasised the importance of adopting good and useful policies from other countries to harness the potential of the Indonesian diaspora, which is spread across 18 countries, with a diaspora of approximately six million people."

If this is true, an OCI gets an OCI card which allow them to work in India without a permit.

Also from this:
"Carry out employment-related activities or attending education, as long as it has been reported to Immigration (using the multiple activity reporting process)".
Reporting activities is needed, not a permit. It makes sense as Indonesian diaphora could work as a foreign agent against Indonesian interest, thus needs monitoring.

Well if it allows the disapora to work without needing a work permit, apply for a job in Indonesia etc., it is major news indeed. One group that could benefit could be dual nationality kids, because it would allow them at age 21 to keep their Western passport, while still staying in Indonesia to apply for jobs, work and start their career.
I'm a bit dubious still because "carry out employment-related activities" is a strange wording (why did they not just say "work"?), but let's see how it pans out.

Right?
Incorrect. When filing for KITAP it is an "alih status" and when the KITAP is issued it is fully in effect and the KITAS in no longer valid.
