Kitap Renewal struggles

This is as funny as a comedy on Television! It sounds like the offices don't have a clue as to what to do. One says go to the other office, then that office says go to a different office, and when you do, they are closed for a holiday for a week. And when you go back when they are open, they say you need to go back to the original office! And the cycle starts all over again! Maybe its best to just get the Kitap and if needed your drivers license, and go to the beach and relax! By the time your five years is up, the rules will have totally changed again!

Bandung must have a lot more foreigners than where you're at because they just asked for my Kitap and SKTT copy for the KK along with the form for the KK, then for the KTP they only needed the KK copy.

I know the kelurahan near my house is uninformed about what would be needed because they sent me on a wild goose chase to get 4 different surat domisili. Kecamatan can do the service for people who already have it made but informed me I needed to go to disdukcapil for the first time to get everything made.

Other than picking up the KTP everything was done within 3 hours over 2 days because I needed to wait for the email with the KK.

Maybe it's because my wife and I go to their offices too much handling other family paperwork, but they usually recognize us when we come in as well

Yes "Uninformed" seems to be a big problem the further you live away from the bigger cities . Even the officer at the Kepala Desa said I'd have to go to Immigration Jember when I went to get a new SKTT a few years back . Luckily another officer overheard and understood what I required . I've got all the required documents for the Kitap and KK I'm just sick of getting the run around because nobody seems to know what there doing and I'm 2-3 hours each way from the Main office in Banyuwangi .

To me there is nothing funny . Assuming you refer to the problems in getting the foreigner's KK & KTP , 2 things need to be considered :
1) For foreigners living in villages (Kabupaten) or small cities , Kantor Catatan Sipil officers maybe never issued such documents , so it is normal to have difficulties ;
2) In big cities or cities with many resident foreigners (at least here in Bandung) , Kantor Kelurahan and Kantor Kecamatan do not deal with these documents for foreigners , so of course they are uninformed about (Kantor Kecamatan deal with KK & KTP for Indonesians) .

Here in my big Indonesian city , information is available in the City's Government website , so you don't need to ask around .

Well today we went to the immigration main office in Jakarta and thank God they resolved my main problem in about an hour or so, which was the change guarantor process not being confirmed which was preventing me from extending itap.

Surprisingly it's not bad there. I thought there would be a long que but not at all, it was pretty quiet, more staff than people waiting. The hardest part i guess is just trying to convince the officers or gaurds (whatever the guys who stand outside are called) that your issue is important and needs to be addressed today.

Although after that we discovered a new problem which is that one part of a document of mine was entered wrong on their system, I think they made this mistake today when fixing the previous issue. We went back and tried to ask them to fix it but they were almost closed and so were just giving excuses and saying we need to go to our local immigration and ask them and they will request head office to fix it, or something like this, even though I said my itap expired today.

I decided instead of doing that and risking being stuck waiting for this new problem to be resolved for possibly weeks again while I'm paying overstay fees that I will rather just try to extend itap as it is....so the process starts and overstay fees stop...and then worry about fixing the mistake later.

So after getting home was I able to successfuly apply for extending itas and pay. Wasn't asked for paying overstay yet....which should be one day overstay (1jt). Also website didn't ask to upload ktp-oa.

My Balinese friend thinks if a foreigner gets a KTP, that they will lose their home country citizenship? You don't need it until you complete the first five years E- ITAP, then if you are still alive, and want to get the unlimited ITAP, then you need it! That's a long time, and by then the rules will probably have changed!

Only way you would loose your home country citizenship is if you apply for Indonesian citizenship which you can do after 10 years I think . But you may loose any benefits , pensions etc you are receiving from your home country if you do . You will loose your home country residency status after a certain time living overseas . I'm sure the rules/laws state that you have 14 days to get your KTP after receiving your first Kitap or you may be fined up to 2,500,000rp . Hopefully the rules do change , having your Kitap should be sufficient after all the headaches and money we pay out .

Yes but that does not depend on whether you remain a UK citizen or not. That's is just depending on where you are resident.
Changing citizenship has Zero effect on your level of UK pension.

The 5 year reporting for unlimited ITAP is now done online too. Just like the MERP. The local Immigration office probably will tell you it’s not possible to go there anymore.

Some tips for that after helping someone out:

• ALWAYS create an account for the sponsor/garantor, not the KITAP holder.
• Don‘t use Safari as browser on iPhone/iPad, some parts are not displayed well and you have to move between portrait (vertical) and landscape (horizontal).
• When you want to find your dossier, you need to open a new tab in the browser. This makes no sense whatsoever but that‘s the only way it works.
• The moment you choose reporting and you don’t have a MERP/ITK, this will automatically be selected as the unlimited 8 juta version, we saw no other option.
• Even if officially the KITAP and passport should suffice, they ask for ALL documents anyway. As usual.

So quite a lot of quirky things going on. Good luck.

Ah, sometimes JPEG but often PDF format is needed for attachments in the eVisa system.

And obviously there are maximum sizes per file. That can be a problem if you combine many documents as wedding certificate, KK, KTP, … so then you need a tool as https://compressjpeg.com/ to fix that.

Something I forgot to mention; the sponsor will not get an update of the status by email or text, besides the ‘end result’.

Now your sponsor will get a weird looking PDF for the KITAP and one for the MERP. You need to download these, shrink them and probably laminate. Like the good old days
This is especially annoying since the airlines in Europe always ask for the residence permit if you don’t have a return flight. The stamp in passport and credit card format KITAP were very convenient.

Okay so my kitap has finally been renewed, I will give details of how things went in case this info can help others.

Previously I had gone to immigration main office in jakarta on the day my kitap expired to get them to fix the change gaurantor issue which they did. But we noticed some mistakes in their system that didn't match with information on my documents, but seeing as it seemed like that would be a hassle again to get fixed and I was looking at paying 1jt per day for overstay fees we decided we're just gonna apply to renew immediately and hopefully when we upload the documents they will adjust the wrong info.

So the online renewal process asks you to upload foreigners passport, photo, birth certificate, buku nikah, and then there's a section for "proof of gauarantor" or something like that, I cant remember, and they give examples of possible documents to upload that aren't specific to spouse kitap, it includes things that would apply to other visas...so you basically have to guess what documents your supposed to upload there. We uploaded the surat permohonan there, for which we basically looked at two templates (one i found on google and one that marcus posted here) and made ours a sort of blend between the two, based on what we thought is the most appropriate wording for our situation.

Then it asks to pay and we paid through BRI mobile banking app which has a section for government payments or something like this.

After paying the website says the application has been submitted so we waited a few days and kept checking until we saw a pending notice there saying i need to also upload sponsors ktp and change our surat permohanan to black ink (we used blue). We did that, uploaded new files and resubmitted.

Waited a few more days and got another pending notice saying to upload my passport (which i already did but it seems they wanted it uploaded in the other section also) and surat permohanan which we had already uploaded but they said to contact local immigration office for details...luckily we had their whatsapp contact and asked them and they sent us the correct template they wanted us to use which is 2 pages.
So basically our previous template/wording wasn't accepted, and it's weird because the first time it was pending they didn't say to change the template but just to change it to black ink. So now we submitted everything again, in one pdf file which included surat permohanan, foreigners passport, kitap (full paper not the card), sponsor's (wife) ktp, submitted in the proof of guarantor section. Surprisingly we didn't have to upload my wife's KK which usually was required in the past as i remember.

After that we waited about 3 weeks and then inquired through the imigrasi site's chat box about what's happening and they checked and said to keep waiting, then a few hours later my wife got an email with the new kitap attached. I guess they prioritize the people who complain, seems if you don't complain you'll be waiting longer.

So, that means we weren't required to go to the immigration office at all, i thought we would have to go to do fingerprint scan or stamp passport, but nope. I guess they don't give the kitap card anymore, only the paper/pdf. Also they didn't mention anything about paying the one day overstay fee i was expecting to pay since i applied on the day of expiry, so i guess they let me off on that since it wasn't my fault i applied late.

Oh and, luckily, at no time during the process was i asked to provide my ktp-oa (which i never had). So it looks like it's not a requirement, at least not for my immigration office which is in a small city. But I'm gonna go and get one made now since it'll probably be useful and there's no kitap card anymore.

Not sure if this was too long and detailed but thought it may help since the online application process is new, as far as i know.
