Indonesia to extend mandatory quarantine to 14 days for travellers from some countries.

So talking to a mate of mine who works at one of the embassies, there was recently a meeting with several of them plus reps from the Indonesian government about this. He said they will likely decide later than sooner(maybe mid June).
This puts my travel plans in a rather precarious position, as I am scheduled to arrive back here on 1 July and return to work on 12 July. Today's Jakarta Globe had an article mentioning the possibility of extending quarantine to 14 nights for people arriving from Malaysia, but it did not mention any other countries. I guess we will see. Either way, I will get to spend time with my parents, who are in their mid-seventies (and fully vaccinated) as well as my other fully vaccinated relatives.

Since there is no tourism one would assume you are coming for business so insist your company pays for 5*
When I see comments like this here and on Facebook, I am surprised at the assumptions that people make. I am here on a spousal Kitas that is funded by my employer (and yes, my employer has a valid IMTA for me). My employer gives me an allowance to pay for one roundtrip ticket back to the US per year; in practice, I only visit the US once every other year. Due to last year's cancellation, it has now been three years since I have seen my parents and other stateside relatives. My employer is not paying for my quarantine, so the cost of the 5 nights or 14 nights package is entirely on me (hence, I am not going to be ponying up for a 5*).

So you live here and work here? Not coming here for tourism.
And if you don't have $1,000 in savings then you shouldn't be travelling?
It is going to cost you around $500 anyway even in a cheap hotel, surely you can afford an extra $100 a night for 5 nights to stay in a decent hotel?

Like I said, you will regret it if you don't. What are you going to do all day? Only a couple of local TV channels, sketchy wifi, tiny bathroom with only a shower, stumbling over your luggage, no windows or fresh air and stuck in the same room with stale a/c for 5 days, breakfast is rice and cheese slice, dinner is rice and chicken sausage.

Anyway up to you, just trying to give you advice not judge you on your financial capabilities but try to think outside of the literal box You are locked inside a 20sqm "room" for 5 full days inhaling your own breath and farts and probably in the same sheets too

Sorry to cut in, mate, but a hundred dollars a day is not necessarily a trivial amount. You can get a room with AC and Cable for a third of that. Internet via cellular service is better than it used to be, as well. I probably would spend a total of 25 minutes of that five days actually paying attention to the room I was in, considering that I have books, a laptop, and a phone. You don't have to be "present" in that room if you don't want to.

For me, and I don't intend to speak for nd_eric_77, I don't like to spend more than my daily wage on something that amounts to comfort. If I am willing to work to make 100 dollars a day, then I am also willing to endure some level of discomfort to save 100$ a day.

Yet another Snpark elitist post.

I stay at many nice hotels, but to be forced into an expensive package stay, especially when traveling with family is ridiculous.

I can book a nice 4 star hotel, with free food and drinks all day for about $60 for the entire family. A 5 star for maybe an extra $30 a day. In fact, I’d rather stay at my favorite 4 star hotel, as the service is actually better.

No one is forcing you

Youve totally missed the point as usual

We are talking about options for quarantine packages and that taking the cheapest might not be the best considering the facilities and room size.
No one gives a toss about the free food and drinks you got when you stayed

We are talking about quarantine and the difference between a 3* and 5* hotel when you are strictly confined to your room for 5 full continuous days. And that staying in the better hotel could be more worthwhile if you take into account the better internet, tv, food quality and quantity, room size, cleanliness, access to fresh air, bathtub or not, etc etc

Nothing at all about being elitist. Just suggesting for those that can afford it to take the better hotel quality as remember what is also "included" when you are in day 3 and the Wi-Fi is down and only 3 English tv channels and you are inhaling your own stale CO2 and starving and have cabin fever.

That's all. Stay where the hell you like. I was just pointing out to take all things into consideration.

And hardly "elitist" to be talking about $500 difference. We are expats. If you don't have $500 in the bank spare to spoil yourself on a one off expense then you have bigger issues.
Go ahead and stay in the cheap option to save a few hundred $$ but don't cry when you are bored to tears on day 3 and desperate for a hot shower and a decent hot meal and to sleep in a bule size bed without tripping over your luggage!

The correct expression is immigrants/migrant workers.
So the sentence should be: "...And hardly "elitist" to be talking about $500 difference. We are immigrants/migrant workers."

It is really luck of the draw in which 3* hotel you are at. Based on speaking to the people who I know arrived in January, only one person and his family had the same options as I did, Best Western in North Jakarta and Seyanan. I was at Best Western in Seyanan and while I didn't have a window, the room was decent size and wifi was fair good. When they had me move hotel, that is when it became absolute shit despite being told I was going to the 'executive' room. Then it became what snpark had been describe, but turn back the clock at least 20 years.

That is so bad, My question is can't you choose hotel from approved list in advanced and do booking by contacting them in advanced?

You can

You can book in advance. There are quarantine packages in offer.

That is the whole crux of this thread if you read it from the start.
Some people like to save money and stay cheap
Others like to enjoy life and book a decent hotel with good facilities

I had originally thought you could decide when you arrived and didn't realize you needed to/could book a particular hotel. Granted this was back at the beginning of Jan '21. If I were to go through the same process again, I would have booked at least a 4* star hotel or maybe even Best Western again.

The one good thing about Best Western Seyanan was it was fairly close to where I live so the wife could drop some things off and I could give her things to take back home. Even the hotel they moved me to after the false test result was closer to home. Both places served smaller than lunch box size meals so Grab and Go Food was my friend.

My sister in law, her 2 kids and her sister just came back from a holiday in Turkey. No quarantine there, but back in Jakarta they had to go through the 5 day wait in a hotel. All 3 stars hotels were already booked so the choice was easy; an extra 2 x Rp9jt for being locked up in their rooms, albeit comfortable ones.

I reckon quite a few of us expats (immigrants) are here on a spousal visa, trying to make a living in the shadows of what the immigration laws allow us. It's not always easy but to say these people have 'bigger issues' because they think $500 (per room) is a lot of money and a waste, is not fair in my opinion.

Your opinion is duly noted
But your sister in law understood my point anyway

Alas most folk either reading regularly or dipping in and out will recognize that snpark is a bit of a ca ha ha ha unt to say the least. Totally unsavoury character with nothing of value to say. My value is in recognizing and stating the utter bellendery of this creature. Goodnight and sleep well all.

My name is Rufus but most people call me Bigboy.

The entire point of the thread is questionable given local Tempo reports today all nations still 5 days quarantine except India (14) so why make folk worry based on mere recommendations, and then have some rich snob offend folk quite sensibly budgeting on an average wage?
