How to proceess KITAS/VITAS Online

Time required is something like this: Monday - submit application, post documents to your friend in Jakarta, Wednesday friend in Jakarta pays fee, Thursday earliest but could take a week, confirmation received - Monday fly to Penang/wherever, Tuesday submit application, Wednesday receive passport back, Wednesday fly back to Indonesia

This is blazing fast, by any standard. I guess that's the benefit of bypassing 2 lower level KanIms, only drawback is you need someone in JKT, or fly there yourself.

Yep, if you need to choose one of the better places to combine business and leisure. Enjoy the nice oudside food courts, love the food there. Also the Peranakan homes btw; 'she who must be obeyed' likes going there for the nonyaware etc.; unlike Indonesia where everything was wiped out, it has a strong Straits Chinese presence. And more reasonable prices than Singapore and still a direct flight.

Hopefully all will work out.

So I have my '317 visa'. I arrived just before 2pm, they started serving around 2:15pm, and I caught the 3:30pm flight, which was cutting it fine, but then if you don't have any checked luggage it's no problem.

It says the visa is valid for 12 months, but when you arrive you get another 'limited stay permit' to the effect that you have to get a KITAS within a month. The online reporting system says you need to report online not less than a week before a month is up, but that seems like cutting it fine?

Only issue is my passport has no empty pages. Is anyone able to elaborate on what further stickers/stamps I need in my passport? Is it just a KITAS on paper, or do they want whole passport pages as well (and for the IMK?)

I'm not sure what you mean by IMK? (And I'm probably not fully awake yet.)

Anyway, to recap about the passport entries: You got a limited stay visa to enter the country via the Indonesian embassy (KBRI), that should have been a sticker. Now when entering the country they should have stamped the entry date and also something like 'Permitted to enter and stay for ......... must apply for Limited Stay Permit at local Immigration Office within 30 days. Art.46 Act. 6/2011'. Then you 'exchange' the VITAS with a ITAS within the time limit. This is what happens later at Immigration. Which gets you get a stamp in your passport called a Limited Stay and Re-entry Permit*. (Formerly two stamps, ITAS and MERP.) And the small KITAS (card). That should be it.

Don't forget to check the type of VISA, by its code. (On the sticker it should say 317.)

Ah okay, I remember thinking about human-computer interaction.

So the remainder of the process.

* Arrive in indonesia with 317 visa - they issue 30 day limited entry stamp after short time in immigration office and limited questioning - this is time limit to make KITAS
* Report online for KITAS - get immediate email to go to local imigrasi. Wait about a week because my driver's son died so he didn't want to work
* Go to local imigrasi - sorry you need a surat keterangan domisili. Thank you come again, but they do give me the forms to take away, which probably need to be signed by your spouse.
* Get surat keterangan domisili, go back to imigrasi (4 days later). Ok thanks for that, come back again in 2 days to be photographed (they could have done this at the same time but they like to be annoying, so)
* Come back again to be photographed, pay 2.055 million. no interview, told to collect passport in 2 more days
* Send driver to collect passport & KITAS, they don't like this and tell me off (by phone) and say don't do it again. But still give it to him.

So now done, now I think I need to make a KTP and so on?

I believe you will be making an SKTT, a KTP is only issued to permanent residents; ITAP not ITAS.

So KITAS is a plastic card like a KTP or driving licence. Passport just has a single stamp saying 'E-KITAS'. No date, no expiry, no re-entry permit in the passport, everything is in the card.

Good. Even better would be if they had the equipment to 'read' the information from the card, not only at immigration.

Can be plastic or paper. E-KITAS is plastic. Has a stamp in the Passport. Has dates associated with it on the stamp in handwriting, merp is another stamp in passport again with handwritten dates.

No, there is no IMK stamp in the passport, just one single stamp that says KANTOR IMIGRASI ITAS ONLINE. No handwritten date, no annotation, no number, just a stamp saying, effectively, 'nothing whatsoever to see here'

Maybe something I have never seen. No matter, just good luck with that. Do you have a Merp?

There is no separate re-entry permit, but the pdf they sent me says 'izin tinggal terbatas', NIORA, Permit Number, and Stay/Multiple Entries Permit Until.

So it seems that you should have:

Print out of KITAS (only proof of IMK)
Kitas plastic card
Passport

me too

It makes sense in an electronic world. But it can also be annoying since it requires some extra attention on expiry dates etc.

Yes, but that is the ETA; you apply and get approval online to become e-Visitor; RI is far behind on that.
