which did not take research and development money last year and kept aspects of its operations at arm’s length from the government."
This part was so that Pfizer could charge more to recover R&D money and have a better chance of holding on to their patent. If the government paid for R&D, they would lose on both fronts.

Poly=Many

Ticks=blood sucking parasites

What does this have to with the derailed part of the thread? Politicians being many blood sucking parasites which give great lip service, but in the end do things to benefit themselves. With that said,

You read the article sure, but if you can't be more objective and stop engaging in confirmation bias then I have nothing else to say to you.

I revisited the article, I wasn't about to read it again, but I did a text search and re-read the paragraph surrounding every occurrence of 'Trump', 'President', or 'credit'. It does not give Trump any credit at all. It does give a credit to his administration for some things, while also acknowledging that Trump himself, "had little involvement in the vaccine accelerator managed by his administration." The only place in that article where Trump is credited with anything is when he himself is quoted saying he deserves credit.

If it's so obvious to the unbiased in that article, it shouldn't be difficult for you to provide just one single quote that credits Trump with something tangible (not his administration). Or put the article aside, you made the claim his vaccination efforts were commendable, just provide me one single example.

This isn't an academic debate. I have Trump following family who won't get a Covid vaccine because they are deep into the same right wing media that adores Trump, and some of them are in very high risk groups if they are infected. Trump is ever the showman, but he got the vaccine in the same period in which Biden, Pence, and a hundred other politicians got it publicly. My family and others not taking the vaccine are ultimately responsible for their own decisions, but it doesn't take away that Trump poisoned the well at every turn and is partially responsible for thousands of preventable deaths.

F.F.S., I didn't shout loud enough it seems ....
What's the next step ? A link to FOX News ?

Read between the lines. Only then can you hope to get the facts from the news. "Trump" vs. "Trump's administration" are just semantics, and you're fooled by the liberal authors engaging in verbal gymnastics. What do you think they're saying over at FOX News?

Going by your logic, we should celebrate Reagan since he went on TV and claimed to be anti-drug. I on the other hand don't buy his rhetoric. Under his administration we had the crack epidemic. Do you think it's possible he needed votes for his second term, and said whatever he needed to fool his constituents? Still, would I sit here and say Reagan (or his administration, since you're so hung up on wordplay) did nothing good during his / their tenure? Of course not. That would be uninformed at best, and intellectually retarded at worst. We are after all talking about politicians and government.

Not at all. There were qualified medical experts in "his" CDC, FDA, NIH, HHS, etc. that predated his term and were the backbone of the vaccine program and federal government response to Covid 19. Trump doesn't get any partial credit for their actions unless he aided them more than he hindered them. I can think of a dozen examples in which he hindered and undermined their efforts, I can only think of the bare minimum he did to aid them. Please, highlight for me if I'm missing some "commendable" things Trump did to aid them.

I can see a few good things Trump did in his tenure, but you pointed to vaccine rollout specifically, and I've seen nothing positive Trump did in that regard. I guess it could have been worse, he could have refused to sign the purchase orders and publicly undermined them even more, but I give him no commendation for not being as terrible as the absolute worst case possibility.

Moncef Slaoui — a registered Democrat and pharmaceutical industry veteran who helped lead Trump’s Operation Warp Speed initiative to speed vaccine development — expressed bewilderment about the blame directed by Biden and his top advisers at the early immunization effort, which equipped the United States with multiple vaccines as well as contracts allowing the government to snap up more supply than any other country.

Not to interrupt all of the Orange Man talk, but is there any word on whether PSBB will be altered on/after Monday?

@Dharma Police So one of the leads of Operation Warp Speed thinks they did a good job and should get credit. Okay. I think they did a fine job, especially considering who they were working under. If you think that means Trump did a commendable job, we'll just have to agree to disagree.

My guess is it will be extended one week at a time. It will probably be like that all the way until Independence Day. Maybe stop a week or two before deciding what to do next. That would put it within the extended 6 weeks at the time when this thread was created.

@R Cameron Slaoui is arguably the world’s most experienced and successful vaccine developer. I'll take his word over a bunch of reporters who have a political agenda. By the way, Trump officially announced OPWASP over a year ago. That's his words and actions. Try twisting that to fit your narrative.

Don't know about other parts of Indonesia but here in the Banyuwangi area of south/east Java there's been a massive increase of people contracting the virus and people dying from the Sinovac vaccine . People here are to scared to get vaccinated with the reports that we're getting . Also some idiot has spread the idea that smoke kills the virus , People throughout the region are burning anything and everything they can get there hands on in street fires . Plastic, foam, rubber , green toxic tree branches , rotting salt water saturated wood from the mangroves along with all the regular rubbish they throw everywhere . The stench is that bad I'm locking the house up and turning on the fans mid afternoon to keep it out . These fools are sitting out in the street breathing in all that toxic smoke . We've had a run of viral infections , several deaths , eye infections , skin rashes etc and not a mask to be seen ! Constant sms's from the phone service providers to wash hand , keep the house and surrounds clean etc etc , I'm sure these people think it doesn't include them . There's still hundreds of men at the Mosque's "4 of them within a few hundred yards of each other " several times a day , people gathering in the streets of an afternoon , night sitting around these fires . I'm on tender hooks just waitng for the virus to go through the place like a tidal wave , and any one that survives will be at the mosque praising Allah for saving them ! Got to be the most uneducated , brainwashed with religious crap race of people I've every lived amongst . If Covid doesn't get you here , the virus's breading in the filth in the streets , mangroves and rivers in the bush or the toxic smoke from there street fires will !

You might as well credit Trump for the stock market gains even though the market goes up and up and up every year. But he didn't want the blame when it crashed 5% in a day. Sounds about right for politicians.

Wait, YOU were the one that brought that article and that "bunch of reporters" into this. I'm absolutely fine with Slaoui deflecting the blame from himself and his team, and I would gladly buy him a few rounds of Bintangs in thanks for his work.

Trump announced Operation Warp Speed, okay, great. We'll just disagree then that that qualifies as "commendable".

I'm characterizing their behavior. I don't like being singled out. Tons of locals get a silent pass because they hate foreigners basically and they think we're spreading this mythical virus.

I think it's mostly the Chindos being Karens actually because they're quite aggressive and roughly fluent English speakers. So many of them here but not a single half decent Chinese food restaurant in town. Weird.

I do wear the mask but it's not satisfactory for them. They want it pulled up to my temple or nose bridge and I'm not doing that. I think I did it once and had the whole room eruputed in applause I kid you not.
Where do you live?

This is just a bias. If Trump won the elections, the same US citizens on this forum would be the ones who are vaccine sceptics, underlying deaths from side effects and looking for alternative treatments. You can see how Kamala Harris reacted on the news when the vaccines were announced.
Many of them are saying that Trump is racist, but they themselves are complaining about their Indonesian neighbours "barbarian" religious customs.

I honestly don't think this is true for your average "quasi-intellectual" liberal (how I would describe people who cite their sources in an argument). They like facts. They like bona fide experts. "We are entitled to our own facts" is a statement that has only ever made sense to the idiotic, unprincipled, fringes on either end of the political spectrum (I believe the similar, liberal, version is "my truth").

But, the right has been pushing out its intellectuals and principled people at a rate that far exceeds the left. You can see this every where from the current House Select Committee to the blood bath that GOP state politics has become. The broad majority of Republican base is coming to their conclusions first and finding evidence afterwards. Who are the storied medical professionals telling these people that vaccines are more dangerous than Covid? There aren't any. It's all commentators JAQing to each other.

As long as the government is using highly qualified medical professionals and citing their sources, I'll do just about whatever they tell me to. I believe in the existence of facts, and that experts in a given field are more likely to know those facts than am I.

Unless it's Trump's prison sentence extended 6 weeks more. Or 6 years.
