DON'T PANIC.... well, maybe a little bit.

In the very beginning, the lower age limit for the vaccines was 15. The FDA didn’t expand it to 12 until around May this year, so there must have been a good reason for the delay. If the vaccines do more harm than good for that age group, they may revert back to 15.

What’s crazy is the trumpist Republican governors who prohibit schools from mandating masks. It’s not enough that he refuses to mandate masks, he has to go one step further and prevent local governments from mandating it. If kids are not old enough to get vaccinated, and their schools are prohibited from requiring masks, then what does he expect to happen?

Surely the righteous shall be protected and sickness is evidence of sin. Repent, ye etc and so forth...

It kinda makes sense to me now, they say the vaccines are the mark of the beast, so the followers of satan would fall ill.

But wait a second, most of the sick people are those not vaccinated. That means the devil is protecting us?

I take that back, it still doesn’t make sense to me.

Maybe it’s Rapture. But, isn’t rapture supposed to be instantaneous? Dying in agony for days on a hospital bed doesn’t sound like just reward for the righteous.

Still doesn’t make sense.

Maybe I should listen to my conservative Facebook friend who says that I should trust my heart. The problem is my heart isn’t great with facts, it primarily processes emotions. Maybe it’s because I lack faith? Should I put more faith in politicians, talk show hosts, internet personalities, and preachers instead of doctors and scientists?

You know what they say,
You can't fix stupid.

Corona Virus, watch me fix stupid.

*pedant alert*the heart is just a blood pumping system really
Emotions tend to be brain/limbic system (hypothalamus et al) :D :p

So, it seems like the 2nd wave has truly passed...but, I just can't get my head around how it could happen so quickly (in comparison to other countries) natural herd immunity? Low testing? Successful Vaccination in big cities?

any thoughts?

Delta has an Ro of 8 or so, so it spreads really fast. The "strategy" was letting everyone catch it, and not counting cases too diligently. I know firsthand of villages full of cases, where the village doctor didn't test, treat or isolate anyone. Those who died were not handled with Covid protocol. Additional anecdote of people dying from obvious Covid, but not recorded as such, often systematically.

Once everyone in the urban centers have been hit, the disease spreads out to villages where there is no testing. What follows is a slow burn of recorded cases as the virus has fewer hosts to invade, but also, the people getting hit do not have access to testing/treatment. You will get occasional blips as restrictions are loosened (next blip probably when schools are reopened), and the virus finds new hosts it didn't encounter before. Ironically, Indonesia is now probably as safe from Covid as it has ever been during the pandemic, at least until a new immunity-avoiding variant arrives (if it does).

I laughed at the headline, but then I remember Anies once claimed cleaning the rivers in Jakarta were different than other cities leading up to the Asian Games.

Dafluff summed it up best and I am guessing most of us figured that would happen to the areas outside the cities.

So Indonesia applied the "Swedish" strategy?

Simply brilliant. The population should be grateful to have such a wise government, now praised among the nations.

Exactly my thoughts. And IMO the right approach.

On the other extreme side, now they want to make the tracing app mandatory to access Legian Beach...🙈🙈🙈😂😂😂

But one can still take the bus or subway without it.....

Honestly I can't see Legian Beach being overcrowded any time soon !

haha... I can't read the tone of your message. Few months ago this would be read as sarcasm, but come the end of the pandemic, this could be the truth (of course assuming no more big waves coming)

without undermining the many reported (and unreported) fatalities because of this approach, the government has unintentionally figured out the best approach to deal with the pandemic: undercounting.

Does anyone happen to have a list of these so called nations praising Indonesia on their fantastic covid response and management? Evidently all those nations have no clue to the intentional reduced testing, The only counting of covid cases are those that are hospitalized and only if the doctor signs off on being covid. Many by request of the family do not report it. Anyone staying home with covid is in all likelihood not even tested and if they die it is never covid. Mosque are still announcing deaths regularly but covid is never mentioned. A family of 5 died here last week but according to the app, the number remained 0.

Major Metropolitan got the big supply of vaccines while the remainder of the country suffered. Now they are getting vaccines to the various communities and they set while the political parties que to see who can get the publicity first for administering them. While the responsibility is with the police and TNI to get them in arms, the political parties are pushing them aside and totally screwing up people getting vaccinated due primarily to miss management or in simple terms, they haven't a clue to what they are doing and don't care as long as the media gets the images on camera.

The pandemic is improving according to the Central Government who from beginning kept crying economy, economy. Let's open it up for tourism. Let's let everyone, especially residents travel wherever they please. Reality says the covid pandemic is alive and well and doesn't give a damn to what the government says or does. It's going to keep on keeping on. If they would compare burials to 2 years ago I think people would start getting scared and start demanding the gov get with the program.

I am sure people in rural areas are well aware of more weekly death happening now compared to 2 years ago.
I can hear from the Miss, usually she mentionned maybe 2 times per month "somebody died near my home". Now it is more like 2 times per week.
But Covid is never mentionned, and it suits everybody.

I think it is a better approach than going into a wild panic like India did at a moment. Note that India has now completely disappeared from the front pages !

But slowly some people of the family are getting vaccinated.

This is why I said I laughed at the headline. It can be read in so many different ways. They could be :sneaky::LOL:o_O:ROFLMAO::unsure::oops::frusty:🤯🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️. However in Anies' private world, he thinks it is all praises. Sorry, there isn't an Anies flag in the emoji section.

Looks like the US might be following Indonesia's lead when it comes to international travel and maybe even domestic flights.

Just wondering for how long countries will go on with this circus.
I mean, it is now a given that vaccine effectiveness wears out after a certain time.
Time nobody can scientifically confirm today.. 12 months, 18 ? The fact they are pushing for 3rd injection says it all...
So, will will "re vaccination" be mandatory ? For how long ?
No way they can continue impose those rules everywhere for years and years...

Sitting on the fence with some popcorn and watching the show.

Lessens, yes, "wears out", no. There are some that seem politically or financially motivated to promote boosters for everyone (including Biden and Pfizer), but so far the scientists (including official position of the FDA) have been strong in asserting the helpfulness of a booster is only relevant for the elderly and immunocompromised.

Maybe in a year? No I am not going to hold my breath.

Watching French TV news with reports from Iraq and Afghanistan. Interesting to see how few people bothered to cover their mouth or nose with their masks at voting polls in Iraq and none of the Taliban leadership wearing masks and hardly any masks with the general Afghani population.

Also interesting to see references in other countries with people seeming to think that with lockdowns ending the pandemic is over. Hardly. I think there is likely to be a major surge of cases with hospitals overwhelmed. The economic impact of lockdowns is such it seems likely that many governments will try to tough it out rather than go back into lockdown. It will probably take a couple of years before there is some kind of universal settling into a "new normal."
