DON'T PANIC.... well, maybe a little bit.

. If people know hospitals are crowded because of covid cases, how many likely are they to even attempt to seek treatment even if they need it(they might not know they need it)?
I have a couple of small health issues I have been putting off for just this reason (though I am not fond of going to the doctor under any circumstances). I've even been avoiding the pharmacy.

On a related note, since I am avoiding the pharmacy, does anyone know of a topical ointment like Neosporin that is sold over the counter here? All the mini markets have their little drug areas, but I'm not sure what I am looking for.

Why not just get Neosporin? It's available in online stores (Tokopedia).

Has anyone been vaccinated within indonesia (Sinovac / CoronaVac) and the received vaksin in another country ?
I’m thinking of going home (England) for a few months and whilst there will probably get the Pfizer vaksin.

I had the 2nd CoronaVac on the 7th of this month. And plan to be in England on the 12th of next month. Not read too much on mixing and matching vaccines. I assume it is relatively safe. Two of my staff (in their 30s) have been off work for over two weeks with Covid and that is after a month or two after receiving the 2nd dose of CoronaVac.

On the day after I arrived in the US in June, I received the Johnson & Johnson one-shot vaccine as a "booster". I am hoping this raised my antibody levels, as I had received both Sinovac CoronaVac shots in March.

".... I have a clogged ear and want to get it looked at, but I am 99.99% certain if I tried to go to get it looked at, I would be refused. Why? Searching on Google seems to indicate the place I need to go to are at hospitals."
You might like to call Ear nose and throat specialist, Dr Conchita P da Silva. She is Bali but she may be able to recommend someone near where you are located. As a specialist I think there is a fair chance she will have contacts in private practice. A number of us here in Bali have used Dr Conchita and found her excellent. She has a private practice with modern facilities and reasonable fees. Better than seeing her at a hospital where she also has a clinic as the hospitals add extras for services.

I suggest you could feel confident about anyone she might recommend. Her contact details are:
BoutiqMed PIP Clinic, Jalan Raya Puputan No 188
Renon Denpasar Selatan
Tel 361 4459066
WA/SM 813 12509819

I hope that is useful. Having had my ears blocked from snorkeling really diminished my hearing so I imagine you would prefer to deal with this sooner than later

So you'll be doing 11 days quarantine in a Heathrow hotel?

That’s the plan. Haven’t booked it yet - waiting on negative PCRs for my main senior staff to return.

So a family member of one of the teachers at my school died this week. They said it was seizures until the head hurts so much then coma since 2 weeks ago. I was going to share it yesterday, but I didn't as a few things hadn't popped into my head yet. I don't know the full specifics like was there treatment, denied the right to a hospital, etc... With that being said, a few thoughts in regards to covid and the current hospital overload popped into my head.

1. Could this be counted as part of the covid statistic? Reason being is the person died during the height of covid and might have been able to get the proper treatment if covid wasn't present.

2. The overloaded hospitals due to covid means people who need medical treatment for other things aren't likely to get it. Personally I have a clogged ear and want to get it looked at, but I am 99.99% certain if I tried to go to get it looked at, I would be refused. Why? Searching on Google seems to indicate the place I need to go to are at hospitals.

4. There is likely to be a massive hole in the medical industry if and when things finally settle down. You will have people retire and quit over everything they had to deal with, stress and mental health being the main factors.

5. We could do a 6 degrees study of our own and I am sure we all know at least 5 people who have been affected by covid. Maybe more.

6. This is why allowing dual citizenship is going to be important. Think of the talent Indonesia has lost because people rather stay where they currently are than return to Indonesia. Yes there are various reasons, but generally speaking, Indonesia will need all the help they can get.

7. Covid is going to be determine the 2024 Presidential election. Either Jokowi declares state of emergency where he stays as president, whoever runs will be asked, 'what did you do?', or a hardliner is going to rise up.
For clogged ear, have you tried food-grade hydrogen peroxide? It’s available freely in Indonesia as hidrogen peroksida 3% or perhidrol. Dilute it with warm water at 1:1 concentration, then put several drops in your ear. It’s supposed to soften ear wax and displace trapped water.

I had bought some ear drops from Guardian and it has helped some. I will give what you suggested a try this week.

Not much in the way of evidence here, but my whole family on my father's side has always had better results from hydrogen peroxide than from store bought drops. Maybe it is something particular to us, but we have all experienced increase pain after using both over the counter and prescription drops. Of course, that could just be the condition running it's course... or any damned thing else... This is an anecdote, not advice. 😅

Eh... I want to respond to my own post with a request that I provide citations or stfu.

Welp, Indonesia finally made it in the news and is #1 overall....with the highest count of new infections.

My friend and his family (4 persons) in Bali was exposed to an infected person. The local administration tested them with PCR the first time. The second testing should have been last Friday but was cancelled as there were no test kits.

At the same time, the official number of infected people stalls/drops.

It has been in the news for a week or so.
I just had a conversation with a friend about that specific article- it seems out of date and too "crafted" - written by someone looking to get readership through drama rather than writing up to date facts.
This bit is not factual data, it reads more like creative writing:
" By the thousands, they sleep in hallways, tents and cars, gasping for air as they wait for beds in overcrowded hospitals that may not have oxygen to give them"

Checking the live hospital lists, there are no patients showing up on the Bekasi waiting lists (because that is what is named in the article), there are even some spare beds as of now.

This news article is interesting re the deaths of medical staff, considering they were among the first to be vaccinated.

Similarly, I have been putting off going to the dentist since this all kicked off. I have 2 bridges and they had gone a bit dodgy and needed replacing. Last night one of them fell out in my bathroom when I was brushing my teeth (not pain whatsoever - they are maryland bridges so they have "wings" bonded to a nearby tooth) and I have lost the damn thing. Cannot find it. So unless I want to go around the place missing an upper lateral incisor I'm going to have to have people poke around my unmasked mouth. dammit! Does anyone know a good dentist in Jakarta?!
