DON'T PANIC.... well, maybe a little bit.

More countries will probably follow suit.

Vietnam has issued NOTAMs stopping all flights between Vietnam and China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan. The NOTAMs are currently effective until May 01.

If this trend continues, the economic impact of all regional air travel and trade coming to a screeching halt will be devastating.

NB: I dont like it when they use -as in this chart- exponential axis. It distorts the impression of absolute amounts (try to distillate the mortality rate of MERS at 34% and SARS at 10% with Corona at 2% and Swine Flu at 0.02%). It used often to trick the viewer and to get some point across.

I recognise that graph. It's from a very good NY Times explainer - https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/world/asia/china-coronavirus-contain.html

They mention in the article their reason for using a logarithmic scale:

"The chart above uses a logarithmic vertical scale: data near the top is compressed into a smaller space to make the variation between less-deadly diseases easier to see. Diseases near the top of the chart are much deadlier than those in the middle."

.
The 238 WNI are eh....evacuated. And sprayed (with some disinfectant I guess). Not all of them were allowed to travel.

Now they have to stay on the island Natuna. Where the inhabitants are not happy and people are demonstrating.

As in many other countries, you're not allowed to enter Indonesia as foreigner anymore, if you're been in China the previous two weeks.

I dont know if they include HK, Macau and Taiwan as some other countries do?

They have also temporarily suspended visa free/VoA for all Chinese citizens living in the mainland....although I suppose that is kinda moot?

For the reasons previously given this arrangement is completely useless if there is one infected person in the group. There will be some who may not become infected two days before they leave, and, showing no symptoms, will be released to further spread the virus.

It's starting to look like it's not as bad as people were thinking a few days ago. 17,500 cases of which 99% in China. Rate of growth levelling out. 2% death rate (worse than normal flu but not a huge amount worse). It will be economically disruptive that's for sure, loads of holidays/business trips being cancelled, but I don't think we're talking about Spanish Flu here.

A report just posted on the ABC for Australian evacuees from China at Christmas Island shows just how unprepared the facility is for an adequate quarantining. There are complaints from some about the lack of comfort and poor hygiene standards but that pales into insignificance against the futility of the exercise as a supposed quarantine facility. All it does is keep these people away from the mainland for the moment.... and then?

China is not happy with Indonesia's reaction to the coronavirus outbreak, citing possible negative impact on investment and the economy.

With flights between Indonesia and China stopped, as of this morning 5,000 Chinese tourists are stranded in Bali. It is unclear how or when they will be able to return.

Immigration officials are working with the Chinese consulate to facilitate visa/stay permits.

I've been following an Irish guy called Ben Kavanagh who was evacuated out of Wuhan a few days ago and is being quarantined in the UK. He started documenting his days in self imposed quarantine in Wuhan and is continuing now. Its quite interesting to see how it's all working.

I guess keeping them away from the mainland until all of them are declared virus-free. How? If one of them shows symptoms, then the rest will have to undergo another 14 days of quarantine. This could take a long time, if another one starts showing symptoms. At the end, it is better to isolate each one of them so everybody can be released sooner.

China is not happy because they have to arrange for planes to bring home their citizens, but cannot imagine another country will be happy if the same 'travel ban' happened to them. Nonetheless, China has advised their citizens not to travel abroad weeks ago.

According to the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids , Tobacco kills over 480,000 people in the U.S. and over 8 million worldwide each year. Smoking kills at least 214,000 people each year in Indonesia.

Imagine the serious panic if the Corona virus killed just 100,000 Indonesians. Probably topple the government.
