4/11, 25/11 and 2/12 anti-Ahok demonstrations

This whole thing is hard to believe. It is so he won't become governor and others can get back to stealing even more money. This alone is sad enough and then to add to it there are people who actually believe that a non-Muslim should not lead them. Even the fact someone can be charged for blasphemy is crazy. Meanwhile someone else can post a video offering a bounty to kill Ahok and nothing is done. Someone altered the video and nothing is done. If he is disqualified, goes to jail or loses because of swinging some Muslim votes then it is a real step back for Indonesia. It is hard to see this country progressing. I imagine if most people only new the amounts of dirty money being shifted around/ stolen, through corruption, it would be mind boggling.

Would being named a suspect in a criminal case make him ineligible to run for governor?

No, he can still run up to the point he is found guilty and no further appeals are possible.

I was thinking of posting in a similar vein but you beat me too it, it is mind boggling a man who is a good administrator, anti corruption, should be put through the hoop like this, does not bode well for indonesia, also the amount of corrupt money that you mention is astounding, bit sad really as when I give my odd job man 100,000rp extra he's over the moon. I wonder if the average Indonesian realises how much corruption there really is

I passed a police station this morning and it has a picture of a cartoon cop to indicate it's a police post, as my daughter mentioned, the cartoon about sums the police up

It looks more and more they need a political scapegoat. They obviously found a stick to hit the dog. It's a shame for Ahok, and Jokowi really likes him, but I wouldn't be surprised if there is some bartering going on right now: Agus (son of SBY) for governor of Jakarta, and they (the SBY clan) will let Jokowi be for the next 6 years. And then...

Hopefully I'm wrong.

After reading this news http://news.detik.com/berita/334681...tusional?_ga=1.136401141.433366304.1475658488 I cant help to think that making Ahok as a suspect could just be a ploy from Jokowi to stop the 25th Nov demonstration. MUI, FPI and the gangs made a threat of an even bigger demonstration.
Who knows, during the trial Ahok will be acquitted. He sounds a bit (too) happy to be made a suspect. There might be a new twist down the line.

Ahok is getting so much free time in media and social media.
This pressure on Ahok can backfire to his opponents- he is becoming a victim at at the end it will be referendum about Jokowi which makes Ahok`s chances for election higher .
Agus and Anies are barely noticed in media(less than 15%).
On twitter #KamiAhok has the 3rd trending in the world and #Penjarkanahok has 2 times less tweets.
Interesting to follow the socialmedia buzz on http://politicawave.com/jakarta

Who gives a damn for 50-100.000 protesters anyway, the city has 7 million voters.

MUI made a blunder today when they issued a statement that Ahok should withdraw from the election (link). On social media this is starting to get widely repudiated, as it is seen as proof that MUI was from the beginning was more concerned about the elections than religion (obviously). Empirically, even muslims (judging by their names) are outraged by this.

The greatest "sin" in Indonesia is trying to fight corruption.

They might want to do some bartering but the part about leaving Jokowi alone would never be trusted since they seem to be the culprits behind all the problems to begin with. Anies you have someone somewhat qualified to steer the city along with his running mate. Agus has nothing would be nothing but a puppet to his father and his party. All Agus has offered so far was Ahok's policies but he would make them better. The Dems with SBY and Agus are neck deep in election violations already and this number is just going to climb. A lot of money is being spent be it for buying votes or financing riots in religions name. No, I think SBY would be one of the last people Jokowi trust along with his mentor, Megawati.

Has there really been any doubt this has all been politically motivated and financed. Back room deals are being made and a lot of it could concern how much say the religious organizations will have in future government. SBY never stood up to the hardliners. Some words but never any actions. They are his hired political assassins right now.

Not for a lot of people, but for the average Indonesian muslim, it is very hard to go against MUI. Unless of course MUI blunders into the abjectly partisan, which they now have.

Today on TV it seems to be all about Ahok and his colleagues, I'm wondering if the plan to stitch Ahok up is falling apart with all this publicity he is getting,

That could very well happen.
