4/11, 25/11 and 2/12 anti-Ahok demonstrations

I also read that he got a masters from Ohio state and he wrote for voice of America. I also read he said he was against anyone who did not choose islam. I am do not know how trustworthy the Indonesian sources I read are though.

I just seen on the internet that there is going to be another demo on the 25th. Anyone else hear about this?

Yes it is correct. But it remains to be seen whether it will be as big and as ambitious as the last one.

I will follow this closely and post updates accordingly. I may need to start a new thread for this but don't want to give them more attention than they deserve.

.
Well, that's why I originally called the thread "Demonstrations" since it was already clear from the start there would be multiple. Esp. if the outcome would not please them; now there's an ultimatum on the table for his arrest etc.

And I think this should get all the attention possible, esp. from expats and people who do not agree. If you look at all the local TV stations who broadcast nothing else but this, I think it is only fair to balance things out a bit.

There are rumors there is currently something going on in Jakarta Barat btw.

Don't worry, it's getting my attention. I amended the thread title so that it's obvious what it is about to anyone passing by, hope you don't mind :)

As for West Jakarta: There is an aparatus of police officers with crowd control gear and tear gas to protect Ahok's planned visit to Kedoya. I think this is following the rowdy crowd that greeted Djarot yesterday in Kembangan and is safety precaution.

Have you heard something else jstar?

Thanks El, we're on the same page.

I hear that the Djarot visit became a bit 'tense' before and therefore they expanded the security. It seems some people there were somewhat hostile. Whether that had to do with the flooding or Ahok, who knows?

Ah, just see you added the same info. Sorry. NB: Djarot is the Vice Governor.

That might explain the three buses full of cops that have been parked by my apartment(West Jakarta) the last week or so.

If Jokowi says no and they protest any way, it could get rather dramatic. I will basically be control of what Indonesia is or wants to be.

“We expect no more demonstrations to take place because the legal process [of Ahok] is ongoing,” President Jokowi told reporters on the sidelines of a ceremony at the police’s Mobile Brigade (Brimob) headquarters in Depok, West Java, on Friday morning.

The President and the Police Chief Tito has stated there will not be another Ahok protest. The Police Chief went on to say that protest in a public space between 6 AM and 6 PM are lawful but that is it. I think the top is trying to send a message that this time the police will possibly not wait for unlawful activity to get too far before reacting. It would be fun to watch some of those lazy fat ass instigators pulled off their kambing wagon and arrested on the spot.

Yes, they are doing everything to avoid a new one. Of course the fear of escalation is huge. Has all to do with the suspicion it could be some kind of prelude or a trigger for a coup d'état. (Cf. visits Jokowi Muslim organizations and TNI, with a lot of press coverage)

I saw an interview with Ahok on a local TV station, he was rather stoical. Even philosophical. (I almost expected him to mumble Inshallah any moment.) And reinforced the project would continue with or without him (in jail).

My analysis, and I'm hoping that I am wrong, is that Ahok will end up in jail. Despite maneuvering by Jokowi trying to do the right thing, there is too much public pressure for punishing Ahok. On various social media sites, where usually there is a good number of support for anything Ahok does even among Muslim netizen, the Muslim "names" have dropped off to almost nothing. I do not think that changing the public opinion before the election is likely. Even the people who are staunchly Jokowi supporters are now floating the line of thinking "don't let one person like Ahok bring down Jokowi".

Putting Ahok in jail will give reason the the traitor who support the demo based on lie and this will bring down Jokowi.
If Ahok go in jail, it's the son of SBY who will take it's place (it's what they hope for) and it will be an escalating to a something similar to a coup d'état - if it would not be strait that.

I saw a video of a Imam offering a large amount of money for the one killing Ahok.

A first good move for Jokowi would be to put this s*** in jail as same as the police man aside him.
It should not be permitted that someone shout publicly something like that, whoever he is and support him.

I'm not familiar with juridic term, but it should have something more high the "incitation to murder" as he offer to paid for it.

Bringing down those guy would be a good show of power from Jokowi.
He need to make serious move!

The term is, "attempted murder", or more specifically "attempted murder for hire". Since Ahok is a holder of public office, it is an assassination attempt... Hey, I know a lawyer who could represent the imam!

This is already in motion.
