He might not be so hot as president, but he was considered successful as mayor and governor.
As for the guy calling for murder, I agree that he should be brought to court for it.
I almost miss Suharto, as the smiling general would have sent the provocateur to jail.
Bear in mind that the guy Ahok inherited the position from (Jokowi) is well known as a soft-spoken man even by Indonesian standard, yet he is not considered less effective.
I get what you're saying, but strength and resolve aren't necessarily the same with public display of anger. Another person who is considered very effective is Sri Mulyani, but she doesn't have a reputation as an arrogant and inconsiderate boss....

Following the protest on 4 November demanding law enforcement over alleged blasphemy, the National Movement to Protect the MUI Fatwa (GNPF MUI) has announced that it will stage another rally on December 2, demanding the arrest of inactive Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, who has been named as suspect in the same case.
[Incumbent Jakarta gubernatorial candidate Basuki “Ahok†Tjahaja Purnama has been reported to the police for libel, after saying that some participants of a mass demonstration on Nov. 4 were paid.
Entrepreneur Herdiansyah, who claimed to be a participant of the rally, accompanied by his lawyer Habiburohkman reported Ahok to the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) office on Friday.
He was responding to widely circulating calls in social media for people to withdraw all their money from banks. Some of these calls reportedly came from the leaders of hardline Islamic organizations to force the authorities into taking tougher measures against Ahok over blasphemy allegations against him.
