Vaccine effectiveness and Herd Immunity

What million. Out of the million 7,900 would fall. The other 992,100 would be alive. That seems to be the smartest right answer and if someone disagreed I would need to question their mental capabilities. Some died after receiving the Smallpox Vaccine. Some died after receiving the Polio Vaccine. Some died after receiving today's MMR Vaccines. Still, look where we are with them. Imagine where we would be without those vaccines. Yes, the right answer is definately, pull the switch.
I was just repeating what you said. You said "Put a million people right in front of me. I would look them all in the eye and pull the switch". To get to 7,900 based on the hypothetical scenario posted by R Cameron you would need 7.9 billion people. Is someone disagrees with that math, I would have to question their mental capabilities. When have I have ever said vaccines are bad or don't work?

You remind me of Tucker Carlson. "What? I never said white supremacists are noble, I was just asking questions! What's wrong with asking questions??"
I have no idea what that means but yes, I like to ask thought provoking questions.

That number is too high. Right now it appears to be 1:1,000,000
In a completely fictional scenario since we don't have official numbers from the CDC and the VAERS doesn't seem to be a valid starting point to most on this forum.

The thoughts you are provoking from me are less about your questions and more about why you are asking them/why you think they are meaningful. The trolley question? How many of us do you think that is new to? This is a written discussion, not our college philosophy classes where we could all look intelligent by confusing the rest of the class as we talked ourselves around in a (pointless) circle.

Your "thought provoking questions" have a clear bias towards eliciting certain "thoughtless answers". It is a cheap tactic that is obvious in print. This is (my understanding of) the implied criticism of the Tucker Carlson comment, if you really didn't know.

Top Google result for reported adverse events is from the CDC... None of the numbers in there are anything like your 8,000 out of 1,000,000. Just... if you are seriously trying to have a discussion about adverse effects, why didn't you bother to collect the reference info?

I think he was going with my suggestion of 1 in 1 million, and with a population of 7.9 billion, extrapolating 7900 worldwide deaths. Not 7900 in every million, that would indeed be absurdly high. And, for what it's worth, my 1 in a million was only an example, it seems the number is actually much less.

That is a fair point. I had also made that connection, as the 7,900 had to come from somewhere. But then we had further numbers confusion...
Do you know how many people have died in the US after taking the COVID vaccine in 2021? According to the VAERS it is approximately 5,000.
and
Not everyone would be comfortable executing a million people.
leading me to think he really has no particular numbers in mind, just a general "bigger numbers make a more impressive point" philosophy (still agreeing the origin of 7,900). Meanwhile, the actual relevant data that we do have from the CDC goes ignored, likely because it is "not perfect"...

I have the same tendency to inflict my random, bs, thoughts on others in a pseudo-intellectual and bombastic fashion. Which is probably why I have no patience when I see it all written out in someone else's hand. It's like watching a hits reel of me making an ass out of myself. Should probably leave this whole thing to you more straightforward writers.

VAERS is not a starting point for anyone with an iota of medical understanding. Including VAERS on their front page.

Nor is CDC or WHO considered to be 'completely fictional scenarios'...

Statements like this make me believe that this poster is not really interested in a good-faith discussion.

VAERS is not a valid starting point according to HHS and CDC who maintain the database, and they say why on their website multiple times.

So we are supposed to discount it completely? Providing false information to VAERS is a federal crime, not that it means much but it is. How many people do you believe have died from the COVID vaccines?
The problem is that you don’t (or refuse to) understand VAERS data.

I signed up to feed VAERS data after my vaccination. If I fall sick for any reason at all I’m supposed to truthfully say it. If I exert myself too much at the gym and feel sore afterward, I’m supposed to say I feel sore if the survey arrives that day. If I catch a common cold and feel under the weather, I should report the symptoms. If I die due to a heart attack, my name will eventually make it to VAERS.

I’m going to emphasize this again: the survey never ask whether my symptoms are due to the vaccine, because there is absolutely no way for me to know. Still, the symptoms that I exhibit can be valuable.

The purpose of the data is to see if there’s a pattern worth studying. If an abnormal percentage of people die exactly 2 weeks after receiving a particular vaccine, then they’ll perform a study to figure out if it’s caused by the vaccine. If the deaths show no pattern, then it’s very likely to be natural.

I find it interesting that Republican conspiracy theorists and Qanon followers claim that Covid death numbers are inflated because hospitals are counting all deaths as Covid, yet now they are counting all VAERS deaths as vaccine-related. It’s ignorance, dishonesty, or both.

Oh, spare me the “all lives are precious” tripe. The vaccines are not perfect, but Covid is far more deadly. All the VAERS deaths (of all causes, covid and everything else) calculate to 0.0018%, while Covid has about 2% death rate. Covid is more than 1100 times deadlier than the vaccines.

I never said CDC or WHO were completely fictional. I was talking about R Cameron's made up scenario. The CDC or WHO has not released official numbers for those types of deaths at this point. The 1 million came from a discussion with fastpitch based on his statement. Reading comprehension is important.

Well, one in a million just makes it easier to pull the switch now doesn't it. I guess I just envisioned a million people in front of me but could never envision 7 billion.

I comprehend just fine. I can also read between your not so subtle lines and agenda.

Not really interested.
And what is my agenda? What are you seeing between lines? It must be something interesting. Please tell.

Pretty sure we all see the same thing, Hawk. Find a new schtick, mate. It's getting old.
What exactly is it that everyone sees? How am supposed to know what the deal is if nobody wants to tell me?

Woaw, demonstration are now "globalized" worlwide, like any other business....
Small German outfit managed to oragnise 129 coordinated demos worldwide.

Now, let's be clear, I don't condone this. In fact it's rather scary, this time the moto was anti-vax, which is not that terrible, but it could one day be used for extreme right, racist or anti semitisme.

We have seen how recently (Washington DC) how easily people can be manipulated after having been properly prepared / brainwashed / previously !

The global lack of trust in governments helps this kind of stuff to breed, as mentionned in the last phrase.

It seems, as several times showed in this thread for example, that the word "compromise" is lost to many people nowadays.
