Today's menu:

Back in my pre-diabetes days, would always eat the upper thigh (original) with steaming white rice and the chili sauce...usually saving the skin for last. Now eating it with red rice/nasi merah..isn't just the same. sigh....way in the 80s there was a Texas Fried Chicken right across my school. It was pretty dang crispy. Ate there quite a few times (dine in and take out)..but looks like along with Golden Truly, that restaurant didn't last through time.

spaghetti with meat sauce (bolognaise)...... much more tasty when cooked today and eaten tomorrow or in this case cook yesterday and eat today :)

Today I had a spiral sausage from Indomaret- yes I know, I am likely to regret it.
Lunch was a slab of blueberry cheesecake from Bread Talk & dinner will be a pizza.
junk food day to the highest degree. :D

tomorrow will be a cooking day - beef in black pepper sauce.
Last night - I was craving colcannon... so I did make it but my own slightly healthier version- with carrots , green beans & a few other veggies mashed up in the potato.
MIL sent us a big tub of jengkol balado up too, I pigged out on that a bit too much.
Even I couldn't sleep in the bedroom with myself- those farts are killers.

Salmon pasta.

If everyone keeps posting shepherd's pie picks I'm going to have to go out and get some ground beef. Looks so good.
Ground Beef? Shit, now I have to go find someplace to dispose of that guy I found hearding goats. Could have saved a lot of time and mess by not needing to chop him up. How is one to know?

I mean, apple pies have apples, cherry has cherries, lemon has lemons, banana has bananas, coconut has coconut, how could all if a sudden shepards pie not have a shepard in it?

Generally speaking shepherd is a bit too lean on its own. Swineherd might do, in a pinch, if you are sty-mied on the beef.

Technically you make cottage pie with minced beef, and shepherd's pies with minced lamb.

/Pedant mode off.
The minced lamb I saw looked off and discolored. If it were a movie they'd have to add the sound effect of a fly at that moment.

A mincing gadget isn't expensive & I think far better for getting the texture/mix you want/need.

This is why my son insists that the dish he bakes is cottage pie rather than shepherd's pie. Minced beef is just far easier to find and less expensive (at least in Jakbar / Tangerang) than minced lamb is.

Easy to find minced beef or pork here in Bali, if needed we just buy a piece of meat and ask the butcher to grind it.
Lamb not so easy and expensive
Veal is another story... Even saw red veal meat at Carrefour, when veal is supposed to be white meat...

some chicken breasts ... plump and juicy

nope, its bbq'd. I find if you start from still a little frozen the end result is juicier

Chicken, sauce supreme, Basmati rice.
The sauce is a bit of a job, but was really "supreme"
Basmati rice in the fry pan a bit more work than plain rice in the rice cooker, but taste is definitively in another ligue !

I have the makings of a beef stroganoff, I just need the motivation/energy to chuck it in the slow cooker :D
