Today's menu:

Not planned. On the way to Depok, at jl. Juanda we stopped at Double U steak by chef Widhi.

Tenderloin wagyu steak, 250 gram. Australian Wagyu M4. We asked medium, we got slightly overcook on the thinner part. They apologized and offer to replace. We were too hungry, so we accept the meal as it was. Not bad at all, specially for the price (Rp. 260K++)
As good will, they served complimentary cream soup. Nice service.
I have mostly found higher grade quality meats in Indonesia somewhat lacking. Price vs quality, basically. At my local Abuba and other type restaurants I just stick with the “lokal” meat.

I’ve had a decent 1kg Tomahawk at a Doubletree in Jakarta for my birthday, or maybe it was father's day. Not Wagyu, but nice tasting and tender meat. I recall it was a bit over 1jt. Shared it with family members.

Recent bought 1kg worth of Japanese Wagyu at Costco. Top grade, A5, I think. $100 a pound. It was nice, but I grew up poor, and can’t really enjoy it knowing I can Sous Vide a boneless chuck roast for $3 a pound. Grill it for 5 minutes afterwards, and it’s 90% of the flavor.

Tried abuba years back, disappointed.
We rarely visit steak house in Indonesia.
every time we go back to Indonesia, of course we enjoy more Indonesian food, especially Padang cuisine.
I can understand if it is not easy to get a steak house. apart from dependence on imported meat, it also does not have proper meat storage / aging facilities.

Im not sure the affordable Wagyu steak in Indonesia is australian or even Japan. I know from YouTube there's Wagyu cattle farm in Bandung.

Hi everyone! New here, but excited to see all the food photos. I myself not actually an expat, but my partner is Irish and since the pandemic I have learned to cook foods of his hometown. Lately we just discovered that Grand Lucky sells Lincolnshire sausages and boy did he jump in joy finding a 'real' sausage here 😁 Here's my attempt on chips, sausages, beans and eggs.. more to come!

On the way to Sembalun village, we stopped for early lunch.
Taliwang chicken - proclaimed by Mark Wiens as the best grilled chicken in the world.
I agree.

You can easily find this super tasty, hot and spicy grilled chicken in Jakarta. Typically served with pelecing kangkung (water spinach).
However, the original and authentic ayam Taliwang in Lombok is another level.

Oh wow- Lincs. sausages- drool.

we had a place in Ciamis that sold Taliwang chicken.... it was disgusting, barely identifiable as chicken.
If I ever go back to Lombok I would try the real thing

Not much pics on my side, the Missus being away I am a bit on the whiskey rampage, but I'll be back !

Not much here either- not had time to go shopping- I had Indomie today... I hate noodles

Okay, so I gave in on my no maid stance and hired a new one. With 2 little kids the laundry kiloan was becoming a major hassle. Look how Mbak Dwi cooks though! Black pepper shrimp, kankung, and cucumber slices. Oh, and her rendang the other day was just magnificent.

I've been sober since March with a few relapses, and it's when my wife and kids go over to her family's place that my resolve weakens. When I have the place to myself, I can't help it. I get myself a Jameson and play my music LOUD.

Oh that looks yummy! Well done!

I've been on a keto diet + intermittent fasting for the past almost 2 months. Been experimenting with keto friendly foods and here are some examples we made:

Keto bread with greek yogurt and smoked salmon
Pork bacon
Beef meatballs
Steamed asparagus with home made vinaigrette
The jar contains home made mayonnaise

My lovely wife made a keto pizza (first try!). The crust is made of cauliflower.

Mini burgers with keto buns. The buns are made with coconut flour and psyllium husk. Sauce is home made mayonnaise with pickles, Worcestershire sauce and a touch of ketchup.

And last but not least: home made no bake cheese cake. The crust is made of almond flour with melted butter and flavoring. The topping is made from cream cheese, cream and greek yogurt and vanilla extract.
