As we all know, Jakarta is sinking. And moving the capital to another island seems to be another brain fart à la a second airport in Bali.

Without going into yes/no games on the hoax content of melting ice caps and rising sea levels, it is a matter of time before we get a city similar to Manhattan in Spielberg’s A.I.

Now what we don’t really know, is how long it will take, but solutions have to be implemented. Just like in many other areas (reintroducing becaks, home businesses, public prayer) decisions have been taken recently to undo previous measures.

The reclamation in the sea is stopped. No more Great Garuda.

But fear not; in all his wisdom our governor took some measures that will definitely help:

The amount of sand bags in Jakarta Utara has increased from 8.000 to 11.000.

The walls in a double wall system are enforced and in Pluit for instance, the Pembangkit Tenaga Listrik gets more protection.

Karung means bag. So there’s a new word in Bahasa again: Karungisasi.

I is stoopid - what is "karungisasi"?

I'm guessing it is "karung" (sack) + isasi.

Google translate from Indonesian to English says it means "karnization" - huh?

it's just the way they add isasi on the end of every word, i guess its a joke

inspirasi, korupsi, demonstrasi etc

Yes, like the ‘ion’ in English, the Dutch are using the ‘tie’ (or ~atie and ~itie) at the end of a word to make it more noun-like. Like installatie, functie, activatie, socialisatie, immigratie, pollutie, urbanisatie, irrigatie, competitie, politie, ...

Obviously at the time these words were introduced in Indonesia and the suffix was adapted in ‘si’.

Now in Dutch it is part of a somewhat civil servant (=dry) jargon. And since that was the type of language mainly used in the former colony it is very obvious the Indonesians have taken it one step further, a bit over the top.

Like in other cases, education is the key.
Governor has to organize comprehensive swimming courses. That will help a lot and reduce the number of potential victims.

To live in Jakarta, the ability to tread water is mandatory.

I shop in Mangga Dua from time to time, a place the second floor is likely to be the best rental space .. or maybe the third floor.

Oops. Our dear governor Anies can not be happy.

You remember his election promises contained the abrogation of creating the islands in the Jakarta Bay.

The developers did not accept this (they had approvals) and the law suits started.

After some bad news (for Anies) on islands H and I (in one Anies lost the appeal and it goes to kasasi now), also F turns out to be a nail in his coffin.

The Jakarta State Administrative Court (PTUN) granted PT Agung Dinamika Perkasa's lawsuit to overturn governor Anies' decision. That permit to develop F was granted by Ahok -while he was serving as governor of DKI Jakarta- to the developer in October 2015.

Quite the Governor you have their in Jakarta.

You would be expect a lot of the DKI’s budget to go to the prevention of flooding.

But no, let’s do a bread & games (panem et circenses) to keep the people happy, by organizing a Formula-E race at Monas.

Our governor’s new pet project, they even put in asphalt that can be removed and recycled.
