As we all know, Jakarta is sinking. And moving the capital to another island seems to be another brain fart à la a second airport in Bali.
Without going into yes/no games on the hoax content of melting ice caps and rising sea levels, it is a matter of time before we get a city similar to Manhattan in Spielberg’s A.I.
Now what we don’t really know, is how long it will take, but solutions have to be implemented. Just like in many other areas (reintroducing becaks, home businesses, public prayer) decisions have been taken recently to undo previous measures.
The reclamation in the sea is stopped. No more Great Garuda.
But fear not; in all his wisdom our governor took some measures that will definitely help:
The amount of sand bags in Jakarta Utara has increased from 8.000 to 11.000.
The walls in a double wall system are enforced and in Pluit for instance, the Pembangkit Tenaga Listrik gets more protection.
There is an amount of 450 pumps made available.
