The Cage is now open! Please, register here for access.

To me the 200 posts and 2 months seniority is an important threshold for a simple reason: in the past it never took more than 2 months and/or 200 posts to the Mod Team to acquire the conviction that a member of the community was a problem to it (read: a particularly toxic troll being able to hurt the community or some of its members).

if we consider that The Cage is an almost unmoderated part of our forum, it makes sense to enforce this threshold to make sure that it remains bearable.

Now, if we talk about people we already know due to their past post history in a forum we have been moderating, it sure doesn't have the same importance. It is something which may be discussed among us in our mod channel, but personally I wouldb't see this threshold as important as for people we don't know or that we know were troublesome.

If the Cager title is something which we can freely set, the Charter Member stamp has been unfortunately lost on August 15th, 2016. It's therefore not a solution available. Charter Members are those of us who have pushed this damn ship from the dock to the sea for it to sail.

It makes sense to apply the rules to new members... my post meant giving a break to those already known from previous....as you have said above.

I don't want to cause a fracture in the establishment. It's not a big deal, it may just take me 2 years to get to the 200 posting amount at my current off-world contribution rate. :)

The Charter Members aren't just people who posted at the old place, though. They didn't have to have good internet navigation skills to find us, because they were active at LII, lived through the debacle that was the "upgrade," and told each other where the new place was (since it took a while for the old place to ban our name - it was shared both in the open forum and via PM for a while).

So, Charter Member doesn't just mean "someone who had a posting history at LII." It means someone who was part of LEXIT.

I understand and agree with everything you said. I also see the moderation team as a good thing; in existence because few things run well on their own. Rules are not put-in-place-and-forget things, but need a bit of oiling and tightening or loosening from time to time to get the desired results. Moderators are mechanics. In situation where you know a member from your collective experiences elsewhere is Cage material, consideration of reasoned adjustment of the mechanism is justifiable.

Like IndoTom said, it's nothing to get up tight about, though.

I would like access to the Cage if I can? I'm new here, but I've been on the old one since early 2014.

Just realised I was asked earlier why I wanted to join and didn't answer. While I'm disappointed there is a lack of mud wrestling, and I know I don't have the 200 required posts, I really enjoy frank and fearless advice and discussions, even if I'm not a part of them. I have never posted a lot, but I've learned a lot from a lot of the members, and yeah, the more I type the more stalkerish I seem even to myself. So I shall step away from the keyboard now.

Sorry for the slow response Elphaba - we've all been busy recently and we needed to chat a little before answering.

As much as I remember you very well as being an helpful member visiting us from time to time, you only made 39 posts since your join date in June 2013, and as a result you are not a well-known quantity to all the forum members.

While we are convinced you are a great potential poster, we're only going to relax the 200-post requirement in cases where we have a substantial posting history to go by. This is nothing personal, it's just a rule to guarantee we don't accidentally let trolls into the cage. We hope you'll keep posting and achieve Cager status.

You have been now in Jakarta for over two years and we are sure that your gained experience would be valuable for other members. Please, don't hesitate to share it with the community and you will see that reaching 200 posts (we are open to consider your posts in LIIF in our count) is far easier than you may think.

At ten or eleven post a year, it might be good to check the "Death Clock" threat to get an idea how much time is likely available to reach 200. As Atlantis more kindly implied, picking up the pace could be advisable.

Hey, no worries! A girl's gotta try right? I'm just happy I finally checked the old site and got the PM that linked to here - after the old board got so "average" I'd stopped going.

I would like to join the cage

Is this like the Forum's fight club or somethin?

Yes, kind of; it's actually pretty tame compared to some unsupervised forums.

If you read through the thread, you will quickly find that one of the main prices of admission is 200 posts.

Well I've got carried on with the id from the old post....

I'll do the 200 first, then

Activity during a past life does not count; once you cross the 200 threshold on the Expat Indo Forum, apply for admission to the Cage. (I suspect it will not take long.)

I wanna Join the cage please! Sounds fun and Interesting! I wasn't aware of the new site, until recently I queried with some members, then gooled this one and joined... I think I was a member there since 2011...

Thanks guys!

That's OK. The whole world has expectations far in excess of reality.

Oh wow
I dont know if my posts exceeds 200 already LOL

I would like to join the cage please
