Music

I just come across this Indonesia's forgotten singers Yana Julio (Yana Rusyana) performing Johnnie Wilder's famous song, "All I Am". He has an exceptional voice and impressive English diction as he sings this classic compared to the ordinary Indonesian singers. Yana Julio does not have falsetto voice like Johnnie Wilder (or the Bee Gees), so he can not sing like Johnnie Wilder did. But to me, this song still sounds nice without employing the falsetto technique.

This is the original Song from Johnnie Wilder (Heatwave) employing falsetto technique.

Until 2 days ago I knew nothing this punk gig band. Thanks to the police who helped popularize this song - bayar bayar bayar - so viral now and become an athem of the street protester. Honestly, not my taste but I do enjoy listening to; the lyrics are fact, bitter and pleasant at the same time. Unfortunately the official video and song have been taken down from youtube and spotify, but more-more people upload their live version though the quality is not the best. You can easily find the AI version too.

more sadly, the singer - she was an elementary school teacher, fired few days ago.

I never understood this type of music? It seems so angry, and aggressive, and is designed to create a Hateful World. Not Healthy or good for the youth of today. A far cry from the Beatles!
I sure would be afraid to have her teach my kids! 🙀🤷🏼‍♂️🤪

It would be wiser if you try to understand and know the problem first before commenting. And one more thing, when something doesn't go along with your thoughts, don't immediately judge it as something bad or stupid.

I was not referring to any particular problem, about the lyrics, or what they pertain too. I was just referring to this type of music. I have been a musician for over fifty years, and learned by ear. I know what effects the tone and volume of music, can have on people. It's a proven fact that music like Bach, and others like this create a calming effect, on Humans as well as Animals. If a type of music is designed to create Disharmony, and Aggression, then I'm sorry, but I will consider that, not Healthy to listen too.
But hey, if you like it, then go bang your head all you want! That's Freedom! 🤷🏼‍♂️🤪👍🙀✌️🙏

I always found The Who, Jethro Tull, and even Kiss to be calming. As for Punk Rock, while I don't listen to it a lot, I have known the bands to point their lyrics towards social injustices and at times point fingers at those that could make a difference. Nothing wrong with that. We has anti war protest music and that was OK. Same type of message just with a different beat. Even Dick Clark would give it at least a nine.

Yea there were so many great Bands, in the 70's. Some songs Sweet, some Classic, and some for Social injustice, and some just Loud and Wild to Appeal to the Youth! One thing I noticed was in the 70's bands still relied on Physical Talent. Then as time rolled on, music became more and more Electronic. Some music was a very good mix of Physical talent and Machines. Then it became louder and louder and all Electronic. Machines could tweek the sounds even Bad ones into sounding Good. That's a-form of Cheating. But some became So Demonic in sounding so harsh as to scare the skin off your back. This was too much for me! I attribute it to the Youth experimenting, and like the song you mentioned before a political song about corruption, I do think the Loudness hides a lot of lack of Physical Talent. Where did Sweet voices go? And Trained Guitar Players?

Still plenty of good guitar players. Many women with sweet voices but also can easily change to suit their song. The 70s and even 60s were dominated by electrical instrument. Even the likes of Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper, Richy Valens, in the late 50s were electrically accompanied. Have to go back further for non electric instruments but even then their sounds were played to microphones that were electrically amplified.

Today, we have the technical advances in electronic instruments and studio sounds. You don't need to hire a small orchestra now because with a good key board, synthesizer player you can hire just one person. A more pure sound. Fuller sounds. Oh, and all that pure instrument playing talent you would find if you had any interest, the majority of the songs were played with three chords. No flats, sharps or anything. Oh, let's not forget that unforgettable musician filled band, the Archie's or to some extent, the Monkees. Milli Vanili got nothing on them.

I am just going to go with the fact you know nothing about music or the industry.

Why do you insult me and say I know nothing about music? You know absolutely nothing about my musical background. Why can't you just tell us what you think and like about former music and the present day music? We are all entitled to our likes and dislikes about music old and new. I thought these forums were a place where we could share our opinions freely without being ridiculed for it! The moderators said to comment on the Subject, and not each other's comments, in the guidelines!
I see a lot of Harsh criticism against what others post! And not just commenting about the Subject! It defeats the whole concept of free speech. 🤷🏼‍♂️✌️

Perhaps you two could turn whingeing & bitching at each other into a musical art form... & then it may have some relevance here? Or Just agree to ignore each other and that way we do not all have to be involved in the break-up.
I am gonna assume that you are both older than 14 & know how to behave your ages..
As for the 70s they had some AWESOME & talented bands and some absolute shite... same with any era of music.
There are some good bands out there now & some that are just pretty little mediocre things but that sell 'music' to the teen female fan base.
Music is all about personal taste / mood. Some days Vivaldi does it for me others it is AC/DC, I have a thing about Black Sabbath just now but I adore Imelda May and Cindi Lauper...

Excuse me, but I was just expressing my thoughts and feelings on music Old and New! I didn't say anything about other peoples likes or dislikes. Or their knowledge of music or the industry. 🤷🏼‍♂️🎹🎸🥁🎤🪘🎷🎻🪕🎵🎶🔈

more and more version of bayar-bayar are now uploaded in youtube; some better than the original version. Personally I like this hardrock version - louder, more energetic; good for headbangers to releases tension in the neck muscles.

It is called "Streisand effect"

One thing for sure. This Screaming sure doesn't sound like Barbara!🙀🔈🙉🙈🙊

I was amazed, in just a matter of hours this guy uploaded another version - without AI, it would have taken weeks or months.
