On a more serious note

RIP this morning to Keith Martin

Passed away this morning
Yes very sad, met him a few times, was a bit of a legend in Indo and PH, or course with his one very famous song, but he was also a very talented performer in general.

This son "As It Was" composed and performed by Harry Styles, a multi talented artist, the former Taylor Swift BF was released 1 April 2022 but it seems still popular in a few radio stations. The first time I listened to this song I though it was Chris Martin from Coldplay as they seemed to have the same genre, voice.

Another version of the Phantom of the opera.
Floor's performance was amazing - Catherine daae was so wild, sexy, hot and so powerful. I'm starting to like Floor though for me she can't really replace Tarja yet. Shame, it wasn't supported by Henk's performance, and with jean and T-shirt; I see a clown than a Phantom here. Their performance at Beste Zangers 2019 was better. Overall, the Tarja and Marco version at the Hartwall Arena in Helsinki, Finland, on October 21, 2005 is way better.

This song “Please Be Careful with My Heart” was originally released in 2012 by Filipinos Jose Mari Chan (Composer and singer) singing together with another Filipino Regine Velasquez. If you are in western countries, you might not know this song although I personally have heard it played in the Radio Stations. But this song is very popular in South East Asia. It is one of a South East Asian evergreen song that has stood the test of time, as it is often played in weddings and has been covered by many South East Asian artists and singers.

The most beautiful version, in my opinion is the one performed by duet of multi-talented Indonesian and Filipinos Singers/artists Bunga Citra Lestari (aka BCL) and Christian Bautista which was released in 2014 as part of a movie sound track.

This is the BCL and Christian Bautista version.

The vocals of BCL and Christian are smooth, expressive, and blend well together. The song's arrangement is also more subdued, with a gentle piano accompaniment played by Christian himself.

What is also impressive here in my opinion especially BCL both could convey this song with a good English articulation with greater clarity and fluency, that help them to connect with a wider audience, considering both have never lived or educated in English speaking countries. AFAIK not many Indonesian singers with similar background could reach this level.

The original version from Jose Mari Chan and Regine Velasquez is also beautiful.

This is the Indonesian version of “Please Be Careful with My Heart”. "Tetaplah Dihatiku" by the same singers/artists BCL (Bunga Citra Lestari) and Christian Bautista. The lyrics is changed a little bit to adapt to the movie sound track.

What is also impressive here is that Christian Bautista is a Filipino and afaik does not speak Indonesian. But he could sing the song in Indonesian Language with a relatively good dictations and articulations.

There is still a few noticeable mistakes. For instance in minute 01:30 when he pronounces "engkau" (e.g /əŋkau̯/ in IPA - International Phonetic Alphabet) or in minute 01:40 when he pronounces "menjagamu" (e.g /mɪˈdʒaŋ.ɡamu/ in IPA).

It is a classical error when a non native pronouncing an Indonesian words like these.

Well half of Black Pink don't even speak English but they can all sing it.
So how you like that?

Do you mean Blackpink, South Korean International girl group who have embarked on several world tours, performing in countries across Asia, North America, Europe, half of them do not speak english?. It does not make sense. You do not even need professor google help to find this out.

Both Jennie and Rose spent some of their childhood / grew up in either New Zealand or Australia.

Lisa was born in Thailand, but she studied in an international school where English was the medium of instruction.

Yes, Jisoo's English is not very well, but she is still able to communicate in English in some interviews as she is ambassador for Dior's cosmetics brand.

Exactly. Hardly call that fluent. I've also travelled all over the world but that has no connection at all to my linguistic capabilities in each of those countries

As I said, 2 of them can barely speak English. One is Thai and grew up in Oz
And wow Jisoo is a Dior ambassador? So what? She speaks better French than she does English

My point is many artists can sing in English but can't speak the language.

Chris Martin speaks fluent French. So does Bob Geldof.

Je n'aime pas les lundis

Going to various places that have live entertainment I come across many singers who sing sone of their songs in English. When conversing with them, few can speak English and even less can have a conversation in it.

Those old enough maybe remember back in the 60s when a Japanese singer released the song Sukiaki in the English speaking world. It seemed all the native English speakers knew the Japanese words and sang along but they had no clue to what the words actually meant.

I have neighbors here that enjoy their karaoke times. (Too much) and none of them speak English but will include English worded songs. Younger girls do a better job than their parents do.

What are you guys listening to these days? Besides a lot of contemporary and classic hip hop Iam just getting into Talk Talk, I think most of the older guys here know the group. Specifically their albums "The Colour of Spring" and "Spirit Of Eden". Well, both good albums in their own right.

If you like Talk Talk and other music from the 80ies, the radio station Most could be enjoyable. Both digital and analogue (105.8 in JKT, also in Surabaya etc.) It’s a mix of everything, also some boys bands (crap) and even Indonesian music, but generally quite a lot of older New Wave.

The funny thing is on Saturday it’s all day rock. And then we’re talking Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, Guns ‘n Roses etc.

Good stuff !
Was out (again) yesterday in some music baŕs here in Sanur. Ulu, Nesa Combi, Casablanca....
Aussie breakfast this morning 🍺🍺🍺
And later off to the beach for some more !
It's Sunday after all ....

Ha, breakfast-of-champions ! 👍🏻

In fact music(al taste) is a weird thing. The songs that I hated long ago, now are like guilty pleasures. Yes, I can even hum on Willi Vanilli, Boney M and even Jason Donovan doesn’t make me want to throw up as it used to.

I regret a bit that I gave away my huge vinyl collection at the time. Mainly 12” on which the guy made a huge profit on Discogs.

Recently listened to the albums "Pure Comedy" and "God's Favourite Customer" by Father John Misty. Good albums, Iam not that good at describing genres but it is probably something along classical songwriter/ folk/pop and a bit of country.

Then "Sun Of The Square" by The Innocence Mission. It's basically a very gentle acoustic music, the female lead is pretty great.

What are you guys listening to these days?

As always
