Mobil Rakyat...new cars

You might ask yourself what is the Daihatsu in place number 4. That’s the small pick-up truck you see a lot on the roads here.

The Suzuki competitor is on place 9.

This is an overview of 2025 so far. But it’s from a source I could not verify.

I think the Kijang Innova must have been the best selling car in Indonesia for 15 years or more. It's just the ideal car for an Indonesian family. If they could produce a fully EV one I would buy it tomorrow. Although our 2017 one will probably last for at least 10 more years.

Any opinions on the different EV models coming into Indonesia? I see that Xpeng is assembling their first units in Indonesia. Two models, that I saw. A SUV, and a sedan, I think.

I’ve been a fairly long shareholder of some different EV companies for my kids education account, and am interested as they move to sales in other countries.

BYD, LI, XPEV, NIO, and VFS are the primary Asian companies in the account. For US, RIVN, and LCID. Also a fair bit of Ford. For the Asian market BYD, LI and XPEV seem the strongest.

I’ve never owned TSLA directly. Just some shares in some ETFs. I think Musk has likely ruined the brand.

Don’t forget Geely, Cherry and of course Wuling.

About Lixiang; I’m not so sure about the whole range extender solutions. Just like with a plug in hybrid (PHEV) you could argue you get the worst of both worlds. And there is quite a lot of development in the battery arena; above a 600 km range is not so rare anymore, I think everything above 400 km will do the job anywhere. Obviously if you use your car in the city only and you have your own drive and/or garage where you can charge it can be much less.

I only referenced makes that my kid owns in her portfolio.

So a neighbor replaced his son’s Mazda CX-5 with a Geely EX5.

Nice design, bit like rounded version of Benz GLC. In black (of course) it’s quite impressive.

What‘s also quite impressive is the inside; quality and available (storage) space of the interior are very high. And the hifi sound system blew me away.

The so called Blade batteries are state of the art with a very long life (guaranteed). Don‘t forget that Geely is a group with brands as Volvo, Polestar, Zeekr, ..

Count on 500 juta, for a D segment car in the class of a Tesla Y.

Finally a real Mitsubishi again….

……the Destinator.

What a name. As so often, a 3 row 7 seater SUV. With a 1.5 liter engine. Not small, 468 cm. Which is almost 30 cm longer than an Avanza.

Mitsubishi, the car company, is not doing well worldwide. In Europe it’s practically gone and the new cars they plan to introduce, are in fact rebadged Renaults and Nissans.

In Indonesia, Renault is in fact not sold anymore. It even goes further; warranty and maintenance for existing cars is very questionable. That all has to do with the local representation (so let’s say importer/distributor) which has moved to another company that seems to be in a bankruptcy process.

So the facelift of the Kiger, which is presented for the Indian market, we probably will never see in this country. Not that we ever saw the 278 million rupiah crossover on the roads here.

If you want a model with the similar technical specs such as platform, you could have a look at the Nissan Magnite. That car is relatively popular over here.

Wanting to replace my old Honda....I was considering CX5, HRV for a while (used), even CX30 until i got inside and bumped my head. Car was cramped like crazy and I'm not tall either. Was looking at Xforce as I thought it looked good and sporty but boy....that SUV got lots of hate for sure! Blunder on Mitsubishi for pricing it out vs Creta and HRV....and wife said she didn't mind what car I'd get but kept saying 'rather you not get Xforce' so...no xforce!!

Ya, that Xforce is a B segment successor of the ASX / Outlander Sport but i have the feeling it has become less spacious. So I checked and indeed, the wheelbase -that practically determines the inside space- is smaller.

A Honda WR-V might be a good alternative if you want to go for a new car and don’t want to break the bank.

The Hyundai Creta received a facelift early this year and now i do like the tail lights; before I found them horrible. Of course if you drive a car you don’t look at it, but still…

Have not gotten into the xforce yet..so i dont know how cramped it is, but HRV was quite nice and typical Honda.. for me the placements/panel quite intuitive. I didnt feel small vs my old crv. Panoramic screen while it was nice not really a must for me. Cx5...nice interior and sound dampening is great (was in inlaw's car)..I think i was in WRV before it was rather small and the feel like it was weakly built kinda like Mobilio.. Really it is down to just CX5 or HRV (of course pricewise and easy to park we know which one wins)..

Have you looked at the new model BR-Vs. They have come a long way since the last model plus you get a 7 seater.

Citroën is introducing the Basalt in Indonesia.

This Coupé SUV already exists for a year in India and Brazil. The concept is (à la BMW, MB, Volvo) easy; stretch an existing model, lower the roof line in the back et volià, we have a new car.

The problem I see is with this model is the price setting. The current expectation is that it would be at least 100 juta more expensive than the donor C3. Which is just too much.

.

Citroën has a rather bizarre pricing policy btw. The lower entry models are rather cheap while a C5 Aircross is completely overpriced. That car is -with the current exchange rates- approx. €14.000 more expensive than in Europe.

Citroëns had been sold in Indonesia since the 1930s. These cars were supplied by the British factory in Slough or the Belgian factory in Vorst. The GS(A) was built in Indonesia by PT Alun, with production starting in 1975 and lasting until at least 1994 whereas in Europe, production of the GSA ceased in 1986 - almost four years after the launch of the BX.

Now Citroën is assembling the C3 locally in Indonesia, with a ‘real’ production expected to start in 2026. That would end the initial phase of importing fully built units (CBU) from India. Initially for the electric Ë-C3 model, first a period of Completely Knock Down (CKD) kit imports from India and later with locally sourced components. Production will use components from India initially, with a target of 40% local parts by the end of 2026. This could have an effect on the prices.

I've noticed that BP, Shell and Vivo have not had any benzin for over 2 months! BP now has some, but the others, not yet. First time I've ever seen queues at BP. It seems like the government wants a Pertamina monopoly and doesn't like these foreign companies being involved. Also interesting because it has exposed all the extra additives in Pertamina fuel, and the lower quality of their product. Although as one minister said, it may not meet international standards, but it meets Indonesian standards :ROFLMAO:

Toyota models expected:

Toyota Raize 2026: Expected to get a big refresh with the new GR Sport body kit, full black interior, and 9-inch head unit in all variants, possibly in IIMS 2026.

Toyota Veloz Hybrid 2026 (see above): It has been officially launched in GJAW 2025 with the Q Modellista TSS (top of the line) variant that has more sporty accessories, targeting now also the hybrid segment.

Toyota Rush 2026: 7-seater SUV that continues to be available with manual and automatic transmission options. There’s obviously also a (somewhat cheaper) Daihatsu version.

Toyota Avanza and Fortuner will get facelifts, also new dashboard etc.

The Toyota Corolla Cross will be available with 1798cc gasoline engine and CVT transmission.

There are rumors the C-HR and RAV4 could be sold here. The BEV Urban Cruiser -which in fact is a Suzuki from India- is already for sale, no news on the C-HR+ BEV yet. The bZ4X, the electric SUV, got major improvements.
