Title : The United States could face a major electricity shortfall through 2030, BofA says
By Jake Conley , July 2026
Poster's Note : BofA = Bank of America (second-largest bank in the United States)

... Between 2026 and 2030, capacity demand is expected to reach 230 gigawatts or more, per Bank of America analysts led by Andrew Obin. On the utilities side, however, the bank only sees 93 gigawatts of supply coming...

For more than a decade, the demand for power across the US has been nearly stagnant, growing by less than 1% per year. But as the data center buildout has boomed to power the AI revolution, US electricity demand has exploded and is projected to grow 5 times faster over the next 10 years than it did in the previous decade...

And they want everyone to buy an EV. I guess they are expecting visits from the power fairy. They certainly won't get there with solar or windmills.

I have been saying that apart from microprocessor chips, electricity/energy sector is another bottle neck in Data Centre capacity building Post#784. For investors this is another sector to look into.

The Data centre will need a lot of power mainly to power the Processors, CPU, GPU, and for cooling IT equipments, racks. The hyper scalers such as such as Amazon, Meta, Google, Microsoft are investing in total of around US$680B to meet their data centres demands, and improve capability in the future.

Windmills Donald? 😂
Don’t forget the birds!
Sometimes people are right for the wrong reasons. That tends to happen to Trump more often than him being right for the right reasons. What would you suggest to fix the problem?

Well, wind turbines, solar PV, and biofuels made from palm oil are among the alternatives being promoted.. These are their arguments, not mine. At least these options help satisfy the demands of some of the diehard, the most committed environmental activists, such as Greta Thunberg, Greenpeace, Extinction Rebellion, Just Stop Oil, etc. Keep in mind they are willing to cause a major disruption to get attention such as tie themself to the motorway. Blocking people access to facility.

However, the issue arises when energy prices increase as a result of these policies, those who strongly advocate for these changes often do not want to accept responsibility for the economic consequences. Instead, the additional costs are ultimately passed on to all taxpayers and consumers.

Also, when their Amazon deliveries are delayed due to excessive traffic, their access to Meta or WhatsApp is disrupted, or their YouTube channels become slow, they immediately start complaining and look for someone or something else to blame.

It would be surprising if any knowledgeable environmental activists call for biofuel use since burning it produces carbon emissions and the deforestation necessary to produce it is an ecological mess.

The Indonesian environmental scientists such as the scientist from Bogor Institute Agricultural Science (IPB). This is the leading research university / Institute in agricultural science and the use of agricultural product in Indonesia.
  • They advocate the use palm oil waste products (like empty fruit bunches, palm mill effluent, and agricultural residues) to create bio-gas and secondary biofuels rather than clearing new forests.
  • They argue that this allows Indonesia to replace fossil fuels using land that has already been cleared, minimising additional environmental damage.
Whether they are saying that because their institution, research are getting funded by the government and /Palm Oil association In Indonesia, I do not know.
