Why on earth the tourists, seafood lovers would want to look for Michelin chef serving beef, chicken, lamb where they could easily get it in other countries with quite similar price ?

There are quite some wealthy non Europeans / Hongkies / Singaporeans / Japanese who don’t have access in their home country to these Michelin restaurants which serve a different and unique style of dishes. And yes, they do also serve seafood not just sapi, ayam kampung or domba 🤭

Of course it’s an everlasting discussion whether it’s worth it or not. There are people who would never spend that amount of money on food, even if they can afford it. For special occasions I can appreciate it.

In Bali many restaurants are tourist traps, also the cheaper ones. If you mention fish at Jimbaran beach or so I know exactly what you talk about.

Well, if you ask your (Grab/GoCar/daily rental) driver to stop at an authentic Balinese restaurant, you will see what I mean.

And something like this is completely aimed at tourists of course:

Which is mentioned by someone before and which you will find here:

Same goes for a Naughty Nuri’s in Ubud for instance. I don’t say that it’s bad, you can enjoy it as any other….

I see. The driver will bring you to a restaurant he has a "understanding with" and get commission from the restaurant. Yes, happened to me many many times.

Uncle Roger: Nephew ISIS. Please tell me that doesn't look terrible.

Nephew ISIS: You're right Uncle Roger. That is disgusting.

However skilful the chef is. However star rating they have got from Michelin, they certainly can not turn chicken, beef, lamb cuisine to taste like lobster, king crabs, king prawns, octopus/calamaris varieties of shell fishes, sea fishes, or other exotic seafood.

The seafood restaurants, cafes have all sorts of fresh seafood which you select from large tanks and they are relatively cheap compared to other countries. The seafood is then barbecued and bought to your table with several side dishes. Sweet, nutty with refreshing flavour form fresh green coconut water as beverages.

For seafood lovers, seafood is abundant and relatively cheap in Bali, there are a number of seafood restaurants, Chinese specialist restaurant serving seafood, cafes, street food vendors at Jimbaran Bay, seminyak and across the island. Why on earth the tourists, seafood lovers would want to look for Michelin chef serving beef, chicken, lamb where they could easily get it in other countries with quite similar price ? If you search in YT there are a lot of testimonies about this street seafoods.

Nephew pantaiema, you make Uncle Roger very said. I bet you own at least 3 whisks in your kitchen.

Seafood from warm water is tasteless. Hence they grill, bbq it and serve it with plenty spices.
This what a proper seafood platter from the Atlantic looks like.....

Michelin starred hawker stand in SG
Also the crab omelette gran in BKK
And the pop up in Borough Market hainan rice.
All have 1 * for $5 dishes

Yep, it can be rather cheap. Just like the dim sum chain Tim Ho Wan from HK of course. But often queuing.

I was planning to go to PIK ... better cancel, huh?
Nah, PIK can be fun. But it will take another year before the Golf Island and perhaps even more before the Batavia area will be done. The latter will be nice also with the Amsterdam style canal houses. Quite some rather good restaurants at the (still messy) board walk area and behind it. But busy now because of Lebaran.

This picture is taken somewhere in PIK? Is that allowed .. those chinese text?
It’s Hong Kong. But now it’s allowed yes, many Chinese symbols in Kota, Glodok and even PIK and Kelapa Gading. (Pantjoran for example.)

40 years ago people said 'don't eat seafood in Jakarta, the water's nasty and you'll get sick'.
It hasn't gotten any cleaner.

I remember eating at the seafood place, Bandar Jakarta, in Ancol. Where you select the (live) fish yourself and they prepare it for you. There’s one also in Pluit Baywalk.

Anyway, the cats sitting on the wall looked at us with disgust when we threw them something. No way they would eat it.

Our guest returned the next day to Europe, he was already somewhat sick in the airport and was hospitalized during the stop in Singapore. Luckily his health insurance arranged the new flight etc. He says he will never visit Indonesia again.

That's because they are different meats / proteins. With different flavours.

You are aware of that right?

Like an orange will never taste like a banana
I am fully aware about that. That is general knowledge. What make you think I was not aware about that ??

That is the way people are also trying to make vegan food, plant base food. They wanted to taste like real burger, duck, beef, chicken. They even try to present it through cutting and decorations to look like burgers, Steak, Nuggets but sofar no much success in persuading people to switch to plant base food.

Tattoo chef (TTCF) stock, Beyond Meat (BYND) in the US try to gain market share using this sentiment but the have not been successful sofar, Just look how their stocks are performing to this date. People who believe in this things have lost their money.

Lobster, king crabs, king prawns, octopus/calamaris varieties of shell fishes are expensive in developed Countries. Why on earth sensible people would want to try the same food made of beef, duck, chicken that they could easily get it in their own countries at quite similar price ??

For seafood lovers, they will not be persuaded by Michelin Chef however skills they have to switch to Beef, Chicken, Lamb. Let alone seafood is relatively cheap in Bali.

Michelin is also giving star rating to Street-food vendors.
