Indonesian Nasi goreng is almost certain added with MSGs, to enhance the flavour to get umami taste. Tons of people in Asia consume MSGs on daily intake, yet they are still alive doing daily activities like any other people around the world. Japan are among a country with the large number on centenarians.

As stated by FDA, EFSA or other reputable food, drug agency around the world; MSGs is not harmful if it is consumed in moderate quantity and consumed with food..

Thanks for the information

Nephew pantaiema, Uncle Roger is so happy to hear this and also the good news about adding msg, the king of flavor. Now do not cook your nasi goreng like naphew Jamie Oliver. Try to be like naphew Gordon Ramsey, but do not use a whisk or anything in a non stick pan/woke. Otherwise Auntie Helen will throw her shoe at you.

That's interesting, thanks for posting it.
Just to nitpick I wouldn't say it's almost certain to have MSG. It might, at certain places. The umami/meaty taste isn't really needed for good nasgor. I don't think it's common to add MSG when cooking it at home, and per she who knows it's not pervasively added in restaurants.

Home made Nasi Goreng : Green peas, canned mixed vegetable, bacon, and the seasoning powder (+ some chili..)
We try to use Basmati rice for it, much more tasty than the classic white stuff.
And a fried egg on top. Fried western style, sunny side up, not some cardboard tasting overcooked stuff.

Okay, let’s return to real quality now.

Quite an interesting place in Ubud is Room4Dessert. It is a ‘avant-garde restaurant’ which will let you have samples or testers. These are mainly but not only desserts. That whole experience takes a bit over 3 hours.

Patisserie chef Will Goldfarb underwent training in Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and he has experience in some of the world’s most famous restaurants & pâtisseries: Gerard Mulot in Paris, Fabio Picchi (who recently passed away) in Florence, Tetsuya Wakuda in Sydney and El Bulli.

Can I order this Grab or GoJek. :hungry:

To be fair saying you trained at Le Cordon Bleu means zero.
I trained at the Blue Elephant Thai cooking school
Well it was an afternoon activity in a Thai hotel resort and I got a free apron and ate my own noodles
Cordon blue could be a day class or full on 3 year masters degree style

I don’t think Raan Jay Fai or Chef Prin Polsuk would hire you with your nice apron though, even Nooror Somany Stepp would have a good laugh with the certificate. And that’s what you need to look at; the traineeships and work experience of these chefs.

Even at MIT, Fontainebleau or Harvard Business School you have 1-5 day (virtual!) courses which have nothing to do with the full blown education but which look good on your resumé.

Used to eat tons of nasi goreng. Obviously not possible with managing carbs due to my type 2 DM. Using 'red rice' as a substitute it's actually quite good! I like various types that fall into four: Yang Chow fried rice, Thai Kapraw (sp?) fried rice...used to eat a lot back in PDX, complete with the one egg over easy. Break the yolk a bit and mix it with the rice, it's beyond delicious. Third, Indonesian of course as long as it's not too sweet. Last but not least: This tripe curry based fried rice from a restaurant in Corvallis (probably gone now). Used to drive all the way from PDX with friends (ah when we were young and carefree...). Hung out in Corvallis....ate dinner and drove back.

"saying you trained at Le Cordon Bleu means zero." What has France's number 1 cookery school ever done to you to deserve such scorn?

Well if you actually bother to read the second sentence ???

If you've completed and passed the full 4 year intensive program then yes

If you did an ibu2 arisan afternoon and got a certification of participation then not really

Le Cordon Bleu doesn't have any courses named ibu2 arisan. Why would a french school use any Indonesian language? There are other cordon bleu schools, none of which are called Le Cordon Bleu, just use the generic Cordon Bleu.

The second sentence says "I trained at the Blue Elephant Thai cooking school." How does that explaIn anything?

Oh good god man. Don't take everything "literally"

I mean you can do a one day cooking lesson thing. They give you a certificate and a pat on the head.
Obviously there is no PhD in Arisan or anything.

The second sentence is another example. Is English your first language? I stayed at a hotel in ChangMai and for an activity you can do a Thai cooking lesson in conjunction with Blue Elephant (very famous This restaurant and cooking school). At the end they give you a certificate.
That doesn't mean I'm a trained chef.

Ok here's another.
PADI do a "discover Scuba" course. You don't go deeper than 10m. All the Bali places do it. They give you a t-shirt and a certificate. But it's not PADI open water etc. So I can say yes I can dive I'm PADI certified. Not a lie
When I had my Aston Martin I was flown to Millbrook to race it and test it. I broke the lap record on the straight for top speed. I got a photo and a certificate. Am I a certified Aston Martin test driver?
Or when Audi flew me to Hockenheim for my R8 track day. Or the times in Dubai with Felipe Massa racing Astons and F3 cars.

It can all be spun however way you want.

Most chefs nowadays claim to have trained under Gordon Ramsay. But take that with a pinch of saltbae. Lol

Spice things up and experience Thai culture through its vibrant culinary scene. After meeting at Blue Elephant, a renowned Bangkok establishment recognized by the Michelin Guide, you’ll head out to the marketplace to pick up supplies for the day (in the case of the morning class), or get straight to business in the afternoon class.

Your day begins with a theory class, in which your passionate instructor will explain the ingredients and techniques behind Thai cooking, complete with a thorough demonstration of the recipes you’ll be making. After the theory portion, don your apron and head to your station, complete with all the ingredients you’ll need, utensils, a burner, and a wok.

With the guidance of acclaimed chefs, prepare your 4- or 5-course meal to perfection. Afterwards, savor the food you’ve prepared in the historic, century-old restaurant. To cap things off, you’ll take home a culinary certificate, as well as recipes for all the dishes you’ve created so you can recreate the gems of Thai cuisine at home.
