Indonesia & Corruption: a few articles in the past few weeks

While there is still the group of untouchables, it has been encouraging to see high level officials being charged with corruption. But I do wonder about follow up with charges laid against those offering and providing bribes. I can understand the difficulties involving foreign entities but why not charge local corrupters? Or have I missed something?
They did. a Good Example is Djoko Tjandra case. All parties Djoko Tjandra (providing Bribe) the Police, the State prosecutors (receving Bribe) arranging to meet and arrange payment are all jailed.

This is another recent case those providing bribes get charged. Three businessmen the developers of Bandung Smart City were charged with giving bribes to inactive Bandung Mayor Yana Mulyana.

Another new suspected graft case in the supreme court. This might be just the tips of the iceberg what people have been saying sofar about bribery to some judges, officials working in the supreme court to win a case. If there are a lot of corruption cases from officials/ policemen working in the police forces, judges/officials working in the court how could the people trust the justice system. Let alone this is in the supreme court who make the final judgement which might involve mega corruptions cases involving trillions of rupiahs.

Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Examines Supreme Court Secretary as a suspect tomorrow Wednesday

Who trust the justice system? No one I know that is not part of it. Those that are trust it to work for them.

This is another good example of how Indonesian businessmen and politicians make money using their influence / facility to win big project contract. The former Indonesian Vice President, Jusuf Kalla, is currently known for launching trenchant critiques/attacks against the incumbent President Joko Widodo. It's important to keep in mind that he served as the former vice president for two terms. This topic is currently trending on TikTok.

He was disqualified from undertaking one of the major project because his company lacked the necessary experience, but he cannot accept it. As a result, he launched an attack against several parties. Keep in mind that this shameless guy has a large followers, people that could be mobilised to disrupt and cause significant problem, especially in South Sulawesi, where he started his business solely using his connections and facility.

This is what he said:"

"JK meneruskan jika proyek tersebut tidak didapatkannya, nasib ribuan karyawannya tak bisa makanJadi dirinya merasa bertanggung jawab, bahkan kalau perlu berdarah-darah JK siap untuk menghadapi siapa saja"

"JK continued that if he didn't get the project, the fate of thousands of his employees could not eat. So he felt responsible, even if he had to bleed to be in blood bath and was ready to face anyone".

He is using the names of his employees, when in fact even people who are very naive know that labourers in the construction industry are only recruited once the contract is signed. So it has nothing to do with his employees, as the majority of them haven't even been hired.

Another documentary, a Supreme Court judges accept a bribe to acquit or reduce the sentence of the accused.
Keep in mind that the Supreme Court is the last resort for justice. They make decision for cases involved in multi-billion-dollar corruption cases.

From That article:
"The investigation covers the period between 2011 and 2021, part of the term of former Pertamina president-director Karen Agustiawan,
who was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment in 2019 in a separate corruption case brought by the Attorney-General’s Office (AGO).

She was released a year later after the Supreme Court ruled that she was only guilty of poor business judgment, which had allegedly caused $36.6 million in losses to the state and had not committed a crime – a view shared by many in the petroleum industry."

The outsiders should link this with other corruption cases and learn about the people who make decisions on behalf of the almighty God. You can only use your imagination; you certainly do not know the truth.

The Supreme Court Secretary, Hasbi Hasan, was arrested in connection with a case involving the buying and selling of legal matters in court (bribery). Several judges in the Supreme Court were already in jail.

The behaviour of the judges in supreme court in legal matter, they have money to bribe other judges to get emitted.

Keep in mind they are judges, officials in the supreme court who make the final judgement which might involve mega corruptions cases involving trillions of rupiahs.

Another new mega corruption case involving the Agricultural Minister,

The previous cases involving IT minister is now in the court. How the money is shared among the players is unbelievable.

MahfudMD highlighted a distinction between corruption under Suharto's leadership and the present government. In the Suharto era, the president had the authority to unilaterally determine the state budget without encountering any opposition. This might include the fictive projects, to support monopolies favouring particular people have already been included

Conversely, in the current era, individuals have the opportunity to obtain projects by interacting with Parliament and pay in making preparations prior to budget approval.

Mahfud MD and the current president stand out as prominent figures in the effort to prosecute several key players involved in massive corruption cases, including influential businessmen. multi billionaires and powerful politicians. They have successfully incarcerated numerous individuals involved in large-scale corruption, surpassing the combined efforts of all former presidents. Achieving such results requires an impeccable track record, as otherwise, wealthy and influential individuals would use their resources to destabilize and undermine your position until you are removed from office.

During Jokowi's government, Indonesia improved its corruption levels in recent years. Corruption now is more efficient, endemic and widespread. Corruption Perception Indes slid 6 points from 2019, so now the country is kind or regional, if not global, leader in corruption.

From regional peers, Timor Leste, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietanam, Singapore are less corrupt than Indonesia.

92% percentage of people think government corruption is a big problem and 30% percentage of public service users paid a bribe in the previous 12 months.

... and 30% percentage of public service users paid a bribe in the previous 12 months.

I'm in that 30%.

Basic documents needed to live here...visit to local kantor... apparently these free documents are so difficult to produce, so a price is given by the 'official'... price negotiated down...price paid...documents miraculously become easy to produce. (sigh)

sambo sambo sambo.

Just imagine if these clowns put a fraction of that energy into solving traffic problems or picking up the damned rubbish around the countryside!

Maybe I'm in the minority but I have never paid anything other than official price with one exception and I didn't ask for anything special in that one case it just kind of came with the "service". Let me explain, during COVID I needed to get a drivers license and I was new to Indoneisa and didn't speak much Indoneisian. They wouldn't let my wife in the building with me so we paid for someone to help me get my license. Turned out the help was more than expected. I'll just leave it at that. With that lone exception in over 5 years I've never been asked to pay more than the official price for any government services. In another 5 years it may be different but so far so good.

Good one 😂😂.

Recently the police chief of one of these testing stations required the staff there to do the driving test and none of them were able. As with Hawke, I have managed to avoid paying for services. When it came to the driving licence my daughter in law said the choice was slow or fast processing with the slow choice almost impossible to get through. With so many high profile Indonesians of late being brought down for corruption it is curious that the business of vehicle licensing has not been touched.

The police are pretty much considered untouchables. Their own are not going to pursue corruption investigations since most corruption has something for all going up the ranks.

The AG is sympathetic towards the police simply because they feel the KPK has stripped them of funding and align with the police.

The KPK walks on eggshells when it comes to investigating any police. Hundreds of police officers are assigned to the KPK as investigators. This has led in the past where evidence has mysteriously disappeared or documents gone missing when they concerned police higher ups. When the KPK went after police they were met with DPR reducing their power and the president not having their backs. The main investigator being partially blinded with acid and he can point a finger directly towards police doing it but no one looks into it.

Untouchable unless something comes out publicly directly related to another major crime that is being investigated. No names are ever spoken though. It has been a long time belief that the police and TNI have been directly involved in the movement, storage, and distribution of illegal drugs and smuggled goods in Indonesia. They have been involved with illegal oil drilling and mining throughout the nation.

Untouchable.
