'Golden Visa' Ministerial Decree 22/2023

Jokowi feels that Immigration has and should play a role in helping to facilitate investment https://www.cnbcindonesia.com/news/...i-yang-bikin-jokowi-ngamuk-ke-menteri-yasonna
This is a subjective opinion, but I personally love Joko Widodo. During his presidential term, he has put many corrupt individuals in jail. Additionally, he is a very nationalist person. Keep in mind that many of these corrupt individuals come from previous governments. It will take at least one generation to break that corrupt subculture.

You have got to be very clean, not corrupt to do this. However, he alone cannot accomplish a lot, as he will need to make some concessions to other parties that supported his candidacy, serving as his ministers. Not to mention facing the legislative members using political vehicles who could easily overturn his policy. He can not appoint a lot of non partisan person such as Mahfud MD in his cabinet who is well known for his determination and bravery to combat corruption.

Unfortunately, his term will have to end due to the previous abuse of power by the worst Indonesian President, Suharto, who was the most corrupt president on Earth.

The only group of people that this could help could be money launderers - if they have 700k which is "hard to explain" I'm sure the Indonesians won't ask questions, so they can deposit it, and after 10 years it has been successfully washed and considered as legitimate money.
Unfortunately Indonesian worldwide taxation system makes the golden visa unatracctive for international money launderers.

Unthrue, every point (except Suharto part).

Not chosing Prabowo last time was a cardinal mistake.

Your personal opinion, my personal opinion but saying that "every point is untrue" Cardinal mistake without providing any reason is absurd.

Have you done the research on Prabowo Subianto's past history? Which part of Suharto's inner circle has he been a part of? How did he and his brother Hashim Djojohadikusumo become so rich? His younger brother Hashim Djojohadikusumo is currently serving as chairman of the Gerindra Party. He and PS are the founder of the Arsari Group, a diversified conglomerate with interests in palm oil plantations, pulp and paper, mining, logistics. While currently his brother is serving as a chairman These conglomerate businesses are owned by both of them.

Conglomerates Businessmen and politicians making money from exploiting natural resources, not making high end high value added products for export, tell a lot of things. His younger brother is the first person to say that his brother PS is too old to become a vice president. It is probably because of lack of protection (?).

This is not to suggest that PS is not a good choice. But his past background making him to need to work harder to prove it to voters that he is the right choice. In the past he has failed, so many times

In 2004 as he run as the vice presidential candidate of Megawati Soekarnoputri. He lost to Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Jusuf Kalla. He ran again in 2014 as the presidential candidate of the Gerindra Party, but he lost to Joko Widodo and Jusuf Kalla. He ran again in 2019 as the presidential candidate of the Gerindra Party, but he lost to Joko Widodo and Ma'ruf Amin.

In addition to the presidential elections, Prabowo has also lost several other elections as a governor candidate. Now after Joko Widodo is no longer eligible, it will be a different game.

I am fully aware that the West wants to install a person whom they can control, just as they did when helping Suharto rise to power in the past. They do not like a president who does not want to compromise on Western companies exploiting Indonesia's natural resources. Just look at the Freeport copper/gold mining in Papua, Sorowako Nickel Mining Project in South Sulawesi, many oil companies in the Province of Riau, and how Borneo, which was once dominated by Western companies, has now been taken over by Indonesian government. Export of raw nickel product has now been restricted. No wonder they do not like it.

Prabowo was part of the old regime. With potential autocrat, the public will be on alert to safeguard the democracy, contrary to the incumbent. Under his watch, new criminal law was introduced and KPK dismantled, basically he sent the country on the road of chrony-capitalism & authoriarianism, despite having the popular and pro-democracy mandate.

Prabowo, because of the above, would probably not have the power to dismantle the KPK.

Prabowo has only one son that lives abroad, and the incumbent has many kids and relatives that are installed in the positions of power.

Prabowo would no allow to be dependant mainly on China.

The present government suffers from gross incompetence and is pro-corruption and pro-polution oriented, anti business (big, medium, small, local and foreign), not to mention spending billions on useless projects (new capital, fast train, Kertajati airport 100 km from Bandung in the middle of nowhere). This would be maybe different with Prabowo.

Comparing to the incumbent, SBY looks like Abraham Lincoln. SBY doubled the Indonesian economy in 10 years, during the workd economic crisis, freedoms still existed, and crooks were afraid of the KPK.

For €700 I get my clients greeted at the plane skybridge and driven with Alphard and 2 bike police escorts to hotel / office

Be sure for €700,000 they will come and go as they please. No one will be questioned them on arrival about hotels or onward return flights

Russian could blow out US210.000 in one night in the bars in London, This was ten years ago. So it will probably be double in the current value money.

Chinese tycoons, middle east millionaires could blow that £600k out in one night in casino in London

Confused now
None of them will be queuing up for a retirement visa
They already have green card, UK citizenship and dubai residency

Do not get confused. It is just to show that for some people EUR700k is affordable. many of those people do not earn their money in the UK. Instead they are spending it in the UK. They definitely do not get benefit/social security. But The UK government manage to attract them.

It is just a matter on how to attract these sort of people. I never say they will be queeing up. But for retirement Visa they might do that if they see a great benefit the Indonesian government could offer such as tax relief, etc. Thailand has been successful to attract the retired people.

Thailand do not tax offshore revenues if you have residency in Thailand as foreigner.

Indonesia does and until that is not changed this is all waste of time, and either the government does not understand that or they don't want to change so they always can blackmail thw participants in the visa program with tax audits.

The head of ChatGPT has been given a golden visa. Not sure if he applied for it, or even knows about it.

As a golden visa holder, Altman will enjoy several benefits, namely priority service and checkpoint at the airport, a longer period of stay, facilitated entry and exit to Indonesia, and no need to submit for a limited stay permit.

"It was not immediately known whether Altman, who visited Jakarta in June to speak on artificial intelligence, applied for the visa or has plans to invest in Indonesia."

This sort of people have intelligence above average. They have an army of consultants tax / business / Immigration consultants. It is unlikely they will consider a country that apply a worldwide taxation for income earn elsewhere. But a few people might do that for a different reason, like some billionaires choose to become philanthropists in the later stage of their life.

Keep in mind they might earn dividend for their investment, they might be renting their property they own elsewhere. Also consider about Capital Gain Tax (CGT) when they sell their properties, sell part of their share investments.

This is one of the reason frequently stated one of the co-founder of Facebook (META) Eduardo Saverin choose to reside in Singapore after he left facebook, even Singapore is known as one the most expensive cities to reside in term of living cost.
