DON'T PANIC.... well, maybe a little bit.

All Chinese citizens must get their own QR code. That way the country wants to keep a better view on citizens to prevent the spread of the virus. The Alipay payment app, which is widely used in China, has launched a trial version in the metropolis of Hangzhou.

Residents must note their passport number on an online form and whether they have recently been outside of Hangzhou and if they have certain symptoms. They then receive a code on their telephone.

People with a red QR code have the highest chance of being sick. They must remain isolated for 14 days and regularly make contact through the DingTalk chat app. That app is like Alipay, from the Alibaba group.

Residents with a yellow QR code must stay in house for seven days. Those who receive a green QR code can travel freely.

The QR codes are scanned at stations and on major roads. Some residents told the Reuters news agency that they even had to show their QR code before they could go shopping.

Alipay is collaborating with the Chinese government to use the system throughout the country. Competitor Tencent is developing a similar system. It is already being tested in the city of Shenzhen.

I had hoped we had a few more years until this sort of sci-fi dystopia becomes reality, but I guess it's here now.

Authoritarian governments love to use a crisis to take away civil liberties. Like the USA after the 9/11 attacks. And after the crisis has passed, good luck clawing back those liberties.

In the meantime, it’s been quite chaotic on a cruise ship which is currently in Cambodia. The passengers were quarantined in a luxury hotel but there’s no strict control in place so they wander around whenever they please.

Some of the passengers are even being traced by their national CDC’s after they were able to leave for their home countries (e.g. Belgium and The Netherlands).

Between this and the plague ship in Japan, I'm pretty sure I'm never going on a cruise....lol.

Every country gets the government it deserves.

The car expo end of April (Beijing / Shanghai) is postponed. 😢
I wonder if the Olympic Games will be affected.

Luckily our 'god' Trump states it's probably over as of April...

ONE Championship show on 28 Feb in Singapore will gone on, but in an empty arena. They are issuing refunds for those who bought tickets.

So the health minister says prayer prevents the spread of Coronavirus.

The education and culture minister thinks Indonesian can become the common language of South East Asia.

And the coordinating human development minister suggests that rich people should be somehow forced to marry poor people, or that poor people should not be allowed to marry each other as a way to eradicate poverty.

Gotta love the positive thinking going on here :D

So multiple couples who left Cambodia, have taken public transportation (as the train) to go home from the airport. They -obviously- went shopping for groceries etc.

Some time after they got home, they received a letter from their city council with a CDC statement attached, in which it was communicated they were supposed to be in quarantine, could not leave the house, and had to avoid direct contact with other people.

A bit late.

And in the meantime, this appears in the Indonesian press:

JAKARTA, CNBC Indonesia- The Taizhou Government in Zhenjiang, China, announced the discovery of a drug to cure corona patients. The drug called Favi-Lavir is claimed to be an anti-virus from Covid-19. And has been approved to be marketed by China's national medical product administration. The favi-lavir drug is produced by the Zhenjiang Hisun Pharmaceutical company.

Wow! Think of the profits to be made here. Would make a great conspiracy film. Company develops Covid-19 in laboratory, releases it, waits for a spread and then makes zillions from their new wonder drug But then someone leaks the information about the conspiracy .... FIND THE LEAKER AND ELIMINATE!

Talking of conspiracies, news that Julian Assange's talks with lawyers were secretly recorded in the Ecuador London embassy and information passed on to the Americans.

Now after having written this, you should probably look over your shoulder 24/7 ;)

I don’t understand why CNBC reported that Favi-Lavir is discovered in China. Favilavir (or Favipiravir) is actually developed by Toyama Chemical (Fujifilm Group) of Japan. Zhejiang Hisun Pharmaceutical just received approval to conduct clinical trials to test Favilavir on COVID-19 patients. Nonetheless, the company also met requirements to manufacture the generic version of Favipiravir but requires further work on pharmacy and clinical pharmacology research.

Another drug being experimented on COVID-19 patients in China is Remdesivir, it is developed by Gilead Sciences Inc., an American biotechnology company. The drug was administered to the first US patient confirmed to be infected by SARS-CoV-2 (aka. COVID-19) after he progressed to pneumonia. While no broad conclusions were made based on the single treatment, the patient's condition improved dramatically the next day, and he was eventually discharged.

In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, Gilead provided Remdesivir for a "small number of patients" in collaboration with Chinese medical authorities for studying its effects. In late January 2020, Chinese medical researchers stated to the media that in exploratory research considering a selection of 30 drug candidates, three of them, remdesivir, chloroquine and lopinavir/ritonavir, seemed to have "fairly good inhibitory effects" on SARS-CoV-2 at the cellular level. Requests to start clinical testing were submitted, and on February 6, 2020 a clinical trial of remdesivir began in China.
