DON'T PANIC.... well, maybe a little bit.

Oil price and stock markets crashing today. Markets hate uncertainty and that is one thing there is a lot of at the moment.

Why is Indonesia doing blood tests in detecting the novel coronavirus? https://kaltimkece.id/rupa/kesehata...rus-corona-pemkot-belum-niat-bagi-bagi-masker

Even with throat swab tests, the current practice is doing it twice (some do it thrice).

According to Dr Jeremy Rossman, a lecturer in virology from the University of Kent, the virus cannot be accurately detected when it is at very low levels in the body and so it might be missed on two tests and identified on a third.

Official figures on COVID-19 cases in Indonesia go from 6 up to 19 today (with 2 foreigners affected).

Yes, I also read this. 13 new cases. For people interested, here is a source:

There are 2 new cases in Singapore that have strong ties to Indonesia:

One (case #152) is a man who developed symptoms on Feb 28, got checked out at a Jakarta Hospital on Mar 2, but apparently they did not detected the disease (good job, Indonesian hospital, whichever one it was ). The man then did what most rich Indonesians do, which is fly to Singapore, and was tested positive there in a real hospital on March 7.

Second case (#153) is a Singaporean woman, who is thought to have caught the disease while visiting her sister in Jakarta. The sister is in hospital with pneumonia (hint-hint, Indonesian hospital...).

These two cases are in addition of an earlier case (#147) of an Indonesian male who reported symptoms while in Indonesia, then tested positive in Singapore.

As we all suspected, these are additional data points that point to a much higher case rate in Indonesia than the government is able to detect.

I find case 147 much more interesting, but it ties in to what you said about 152; rich Indonesians. Case 147 claims first symptoms while in Indonesia and flew to Singapore, was detected at Selatar airport by having a fever.

There are no scheduled flights to Selatar so he must have flown private and figured he has more chance in a Singaporean hospital than an Indonesian one.

Good catch on the Selatar flight. Yes, this is someone who has enough means to charter a flight or maybe was on a medevac flight.

8 new cases today:

If I am up-to-date...4 of the 27 cases are foreigners. Foreigner's share is quite high then and does not represent their share in the population, I guess. I assume one explenation is that foreigners tend to go to a doctor earlier. Maybe they are also more open to tests that cause extra costs!?

"Berita yang sangat serius. Sumber A1, WHO menyatakan keadaan kita di Indonesia serius Corona. Hindari semua kegiatan umum. Jauhi tempat umum yang banyak berkumpulnya orang. Berita ini dapat saya pertanggungjawabkan. Mohon maaf tidak untuk menakut-nakuti, tapi untuk kepentingan bersama kita." Posted by Peter F. Gontha on Twitter, google translated as follows;

"Very serious news. Source A1, WHO states that our situation in Indonesia is serious Corona. Avoid all public activities. Stay away from public places where many people gather. This news can be held to my responsibility. Sorry, not to frighten, but for our common interests."

Some neighboring countries have already declared public health emergency. No cinema, no large gatherings, no schools, queuing 1 meter distance... better be safe than sorry. And better than whole cities locked-down (or whole country like Italy).

Important information from the French Ministry of Health, re: COVID-19

There must be cases here, but it seems like the tropical climate stops it spreading very fast. All the "out of control" countries are very cold. I don't believe there are hundreds of people dying of pneumonia-type illnesses here and no-one knows about it.

Sh!t

we were already convinced it would help

53 years old. Not yet stated where she was from or which hospital she was brought to:

According to local newspaper: The victim was a 53-y.o. British woman. Entered Bali on 29/02, symptoms by 03/03. Transferred from a private hospital to main hospital (Sanglah) on 09/03. Was added to COVID-19 tally only yesterday. Passed away and cremated today. 😥

Some difficulty in contact tracing reported, as the husband is not able to remember everywhere they went the last 14 days.

WOW!

Bali's Regional Secretary said that they did not know the deceased had COVID-19 until AFTER she died today. Even though Jakarta has added her to the list of COVID-19 patients yesterday. Evidently there is zero coordination, communication and urgency, i.e. business as usual.

A number of schools have closed their campuses and told the students to study at home/online. My school just today announced to the teachers that the field scheduled on 20 March has been cancelled(we are still open).
