Coconuts newsletter

To be clear, I don't have a problem with that, Iam just curious. What about the look for example you don't like? I feel like especially the look is often super nice.

Anyway, Iam on the other side of the spectrum. I love most Indonesian food haha. There are also "premium" places if you are afraid of street vendors. And my wife cooks a lot of stuff at home, without msg and it tastes even better.

Again, no problem just interested about people's opinions.
Some looks ok in medium priced places. Rijstafel usually is well presented. But most looks horrible to me. And that's without the smell....

Lived / visited all over Asia, sampled a bit the food everywhere and that's it.

My companion cooks French very well now, and likes 80% of it.

Usually lunch is for me something easy, for her Indo food.
Evening is always French for both of us.

I used to have a food thread on here sometime ago if you want samples.

Never tasted any Indo dish, the look and smell is enough for me !

Oh, I don't speak Indonesian so I have no clue what you're speaking about.

...I eat only French / European now.

I wonder where I have seen this before, people not wanting to learn the language of the country they choose to reside in and publicly showing their disdain for the local culture .
Oh yeah, I remember. Back home.

Completely wrong.

I get along very well with English (which is my 3rd language), and I prefer French food.

Nothing to do with "disdain the local culture"

But not the subject of this thread....

BTW, you name yourself "Pak Tani" which would tend to make believe you are a native Indonesian ?
A bit a contradiction with the statement in your last sentence.....

Picture on the right...do you think the colors look "natural" ?
You would be surprised how "natural" some of the colors are. Red (E-120) for instance in many products, like sausages, yogurt and cakes are from ....

Behind the red dye E-120 lies a scale insect that lives on cacti in Central and South America.
The dye, also called carmine, is produced by drying, degreasing and grinding the carapace of female lice. 🤣 Not many people know this 😕
The natural coloring agent is used, among other things, for sausage and the drink 'Campari', but is also found in lipstick and rouge.

The green dye chlorophyll is extracted from green leaves such as spinach, but can also be extracted from the
algae spirulina.

I'm not familiar with buffet restaurants in Jakarta

Pantaiema you keep trying to chime in with weird opinions on things that you upfront state that you dont have any knowledge on. You then try to google and copy and paste a load of semi relevant links to prove a point. Why bother?

Im beginining to think you are actually an AI bot designed just to argue irrelevant stuff.

If Pantaiema were an AI bot then it has been programmed very cleverly to use occasional odd little misses with the English language suggesting having grown up with a different language culture. Assuming Pantaiema is not an AI bot I think most of us would like to know more about you.... where you were born, educated and how you would describe your philosophic outlook that has led you to take what tends to come across as a somewhat abrasive person prone to throw insults at those you deem uninformed and ignorant.

Well, the idea that I am an AI bot would only be contemplated by irrational individuals, and it is entirely unfounded. Regarding my background, I was born in Indonesia but received my upbringing and education in various countries. This is one of the reasons for my interest in Indonesian affairs.

I think the idea of you're being an AI bot was posted as a joke. I don't really understand why you seem to be offended so easily. A sense of humour makes it easier to take odd remarks rather than responding with anger. But then some people really enjoy tension and a bit of conflict.

"Born in Indonesia". Of course you need not answer this next question but wonder as to your racial identity? Perhaps your upbringing in various nations was laced with racial insults if you were of mixed race.

Classic reply lol

Better to ask and get a more honest answer

Brunch St Regis currently the best
Massage? Kokou is ok in most malls
Stay? Borobodur v v cheap these days 800rb a night or for high end 4 seasons or St Regis
Dinner? What cuisine? Budget?
Wife and I used to have Borobodur 'member's club' (like pay about 3-4 million in advance and get a book of coupon, free buffet for 2, free cake for birthday, etc). Twice stayed there and had to switch room cause AC was not working (or according to their 'engineering' at night the central AC had temp limit). So after giving them a chance the second year, we didn't renew after that...

Our stay at Shangrila was better. Maybe we were lucky cause when we wanted to book the room the standard room was fully booked so they gave us the newly renovated junior suite instead (the one with the all-you-can-drink/eat lounge for 500K).

This was quite a few years ago tho.

Forgot to say Rosso (at Shangri-La) had (or still do...maybe) the buy 2 get 3 every Sunday. Was pretty decent. I opted for the all-you-can-drink wine for an extra 388K but maybe i had an off day or maybe indulged in the sparkling before eating...didn't feel good the next day and ended up getting sick for an extra couple days.

Will give it another chance sometime though..lol

Borobodur now v cheap to stay for a '5*" hotel only 700rb on agoda
Yes Rosso and Satoo both good brunch
Mariott used to do a card 4jt a year and you got 2 free stays at RCMK and 2 at JWM and then a couple of free brunch and lunch etc and some discount for Spa etc. Was good value as the stay alone was worth 4jt. That was during covid.

Yep same with Shangri-La used to have the 3jt something coupon deal and later on they erased and changed it to 'shangri-la points' instead. too bad.

Forgot to ask also....maybe anybody knows a good place (or buffet) that has a decent or at least acceptable prime rib?

I think they all do prime rib? I guess somewhere like C's Grand Hyatt because that's usually a steak place anyway?
